I have some liquid chlorine left over from a previous summer in my garage. How long is the stuff good for? It's been in the hot garage, but out of any sunlight. Any degradation?
I'd bet it has lost some of its strength but have no idea how much.
If your chlorine level isn't high then use pool math to see how much will bring it up 2ppm. Add that amount & see if actually goes up 2 ppm.
As shown in this table, chlorinating liquid will degrade rather quickly in hotter temperatures. I'm guessing that over a year it might be at 3-4% at best. Mostly the chlorine degrades into chloride and chlorate (poor quality chlorinating liquid also degrades into oxygen gas).
