    Timer for Heater

I would like to avoid having to manually turn the heater on/off. I would like to automate when it turns off so the heater has a chance to cool down prior to my pump turning off. My questions are: 1. Is it possible to control power to my 110V heater with the Intermatic T104P201? This is a DPST...

    Timer for Heater

I recently installed a Hayward MaxFlo variable speed pump so I am no longer using my Intermatic T104P201 mechanical timer to control my pump. The Intermatic timer has a fireman's switch that I had been using to control my Raypak natural gas heater. I was planning to continue using the...

    Automatic cover color- pros/cons

My cover is navy blue. If I had to do it again, I think I would have chosen a lighter color because the dark color always looks dirty. I think tan or gray would hide dirt better, but when clean I do like the look of the navy.

Auto Cover & Solar Heat Gain

Thanks for the replies. Once the cover is installed I'll do some experimenting. Good to know about the super heated layer. I'll probably adjust my pump run time so that it is always running during the afternoons to help draw hot water away from the cover.

Auto Cover & Solar Heat Gain

I am having an auto cover installed this summer. The cover will be navy blue. Has anyone experimented with how much water temperature rises having the cover open during the day vs. having it closed? Obviously, its better to have it closed at night, but I'm not sure about during the day. On a...

    Nature2 Mineral Sanitizer

You're learning very quickly! Often times pool builders also sell pool chemicals. If you use pucks and have high CYA, then you will get algae and the pool store can sell you algaecide, clarifer, floc, bags of "shock", etc.... In reality, if you don't have a SWG or a liquid chlorine feeder, it...

    Auto Pool Cover Price

A couple of additional questions: 1. Thumbs up or down on the CoverStar brand? 2. For my install, the vault for the pool cover will be between the deep end of the pool and the diving board. The install of the pool cover will cause the concrete that the diving board is on to be completely...

    Auto Pool Cover Price

I've received a couple of quotes for installing an auto pool cover for my inground pool and am wondering if the prices seem reasonable. I have a 20'x40' vinyl oval shaped pool. The estimates I have received are both about $10,000 for the cover and install of the cover. Both are for CoverStar...

Using Air Conditioner as Pool Heater/Condenser

I saw this on an episode of "Ask This Old House". http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/tv/ask-toh/video/0,,20652494,00.html As Jason points out, this isn't going to do much to heat your pool. Buy may help reduce your A/C bill?

    solar blanket alternatives

I think someone mentioned this earlier in the thread, but what about using plastic sheeting or a tarp. 1 or 2 mil plastic sheeting is probably durable enough to last the season, could be folded up into a much smaller size than a solar cover, and will prevent heat loss due to evaporation. You...

    Pool guy telling the truth?

$650 seems like a lot for a heater install, assuming the gas and electrical are already run. My pool guy said he'd replace a heater for $100 if I buy the heater from him. Comparing his heater prices to the best prices I can find online, he has about a $200 mark-up. So, I'd be paying $300 total...

Add Auto Pool Cover to Existing Pool?

Does anyone have experience adding an auto cover to an existing pool? Searching the web I have found sites showing the tracks for the cover sitting on the existing decking and the reel for the cover is above the ground. I understand that this isn't the best aesthetically, but am wondering if...

    Frogs dying

Chlorine will kill the frogs. For a while during the summer I would find 20 dead toads a day in my skimmers. This was with a clear, normally chlorinated pool ( around 6 ppm fc with 40 ppm cya). When my pool was a swamp this spring, the frogs prospered in my pool
