    Jacks Magic #2 alternative

Jacks is super easy to work with. It works on water movement, so make sure you have the pump running the whole time, and use a sump pump and a hose if there are specific areas that you need to focus on. It worked for me in a matter of hours - pretty amazing stuff.

    Jacks Magic #2 alternative

My chemistry is generally ok. I have a SWG and my pH is always creeping up. I also have high-calcium fill water. Those two are the killers. This happens as I get busy and neglect the pool. I treated it last spring and the stains came right off. Took about a year, but they came back.

    Jacks Magic #2 alternative

It seems like no matter how well I keep on top of my chemistry, I get scale over time. We have Ledge Loungers, and we constantly have scale buildup around them. I've used Jack's Magic Copper & Scale before - it works like a charm but it's pretty expensive. Has anyone run into a similar product...

    2nd times a charm.......No Drain Acid Wash

You will have to drain if your hardness gets that high, and it probably will. I brushed once a day. I have a quartz finish, and there are definitely a few rough spots. Nothing too bad though. I probably reduced the lifespan of my finish, but it was worth it to get rid of the staining. It was...

    2nd times a charm.......No Drain Acid Wash

I was about to drain the pool anyway, so I didn't bother to measure FC. The treatment only took about 5 days. As I said before, check out Jack's Copper and Scale. It's specifically designed for what you're doing, and it worked like a charm for me. The blue stuff is just a sequestrant - it helps...

    2nd times a charm.......No Drain Acid Wash

Worked beautifully. In the areas where the water was moving well, I could almost literally watch the stains melt off. I would walk away for 10 minutes and come back to a noticeably darker (blue) plaster. It definitely removed some plaster, so proceed with caution. There was a lot of dust...

    2nd times a charm.......No Drain Acid Wash

I did an acid bath with my pump turned on and didn't have any issues. I also added Jacks Magic Copper & Scale (highly recommend) and it requires you to run the pump. With no heater you should be fine.

High hardness and what appears to be calcium deposits on plaster

What does "slightly aggressive" mean in terms of pH?

High hardness and what appears to be calcium deposits on plaster

Should I do a full drain and have it acid washed? It seems like if I drain it and then treat the spots, I'm just going to be back here again

High hardness and what appears to be calcium deposits on plaster

I have a SWG and use bleach when the chlorine levels get overwhelmed or it gets cold. No powdered shock at all. My pH and TA both run high. I measure pH every week - it's usually around 8 and I bring it down to around 7.2 with muriatic. TA is consistently in the 300+ range. My pool builder...

High hardness and what appears to be calcium deposits on plaster

I have three issues. 1. Really high calcium hardness. I just measured it at 850. I replaced the water last summer, and I balanced it out to around 250. I know that I need to drain to get the CH down, but why would it have come up so much? 2. I am getting white spots on my dark blue plaster...

Pool water pH - what is ok for my equipment?

I've read a few articles on pool startup that suggest I might have calcium silicate buildup. The film is pale grey and hard, not flaky like typical calcium scale. The water in the pool stayed unbalanced for about 2 months after initial fill. My builder went AWOL and I didn't know what I was...

Pool water pH - what is ok for my equipment?

I should add that I haven't actually performed a metal test, I just used the stain ID kit from Jack's Magic and the #2 solution did the trick. It's a little hard to tell what color the staining actually is because my plaster is a dark blue. Pure muriatic also seems to make a difference on the...

Pool water pH - what is ok for my equipment?

I have some mottling on my plaster after my flaky builder neglected to balance the water on first fill. I have copper deposits from my water and some calcium deposits from where the low CH sucked some of the calcium from the plaster. I think that's the explanation, at least. I confirmed that...

No drain acid wash - muriatic or ascorbic

I did an acid bath on the spa side to test it before doing the whole pool. My spa is 1,100 gallons, so I put in about 30 fl oz of muriatic to bring it down to a ph of 4.5. After about 2 days of that and lots of brushing, the plaster now has a white haze on it (it was a dark blue). I neutralized...

No drain acid wash - muriatic or ascorbic

I have a brand new pool that is stained because of an improper startup. I have all kinds of pretty colors that aren't the color of my plaster - brown, green, sort of a pale blue. I'm researching what I can do to get rid of them and bring back the plaster color. I've read about removing metal...

    2nd times a charm.......No Drain Acid Wash

I know this is an old thread, but I'm considering doing this to my brand new pool that wasn't started up properly. Anyone still around to answer questions?

    Stains on plaster

I have a number of different types of stains on my plaster, and I'm trying to diagnose what they are. Some of the stains were there when we bought the house, so I'm not sure what the previous owners did or did not do to cause it. Light blue - large parts of the plaster are blue and splotchy...
