Why Drain Pool with High CYA?

haha I don't want to know what's in that pool. But yeah I'm figuring that's what keeps the CYA manageable. Mine is 10x clearer than hers

Why Drain Pool with High CYA?

It's interesting, my neighbor has an inground pool. She rarely tests and just throws some pucks in the floater. She's been doing this for 10 years. She says a couple times a year she shocks the pool. Her water is kind of clear. I mean I can see the bottom but it always looks a little cloudy...

    Winter cover questions

I use a micromesh cover that allows the water to pass through so no draining the cover during rains..... I use regular tube floats under the cover so the cover doesn't touch the water. I will drain below the returns also.

10 ft. small intex - foam and cloudy water! help!

Assuming those results are correct (which they may not be) the reason you are adding chlorine all the time is because you have no CYA aka stabilizer, aka Cyanuric acid. Your chlorine is being consumed almost immediately by the sun or any algae blooms that are starting. Cyanuric acid or CYA...

10 foot pool... do I need to drain and start over?

The clorox stabilizer is fine and is 100% cyanuric acid. I use that. I believe you are referring to some of the clorox products that say the word "blue" on them and contain copper.

New Guy Needing Help. Fresh Filled Pool looks like a Lagoon

First off excellent username. Love that episode of south park Don't put anything else into your pool right now from the pool store. What you need is liquid bleach. Ordinary house hold liquid bleach. You also need stabilizer also known as CYA. If you click on pool math at the top of the...

My Numbers are in and I think I am going to cry lol

yes. if your CYA is 100, you have to drain half to get it to 50 Are you sure you TA is 300? It took 30 drops to get the color to change? Also, I guess the prior owner was using pucks, that's why the CYA is so high. Do you have algae or green in the pool? If so, that high CYA is probably...

    Chlorine and Stabilizer

Is that levittown, ny? It's worth mentioning to avoid this problem next year. Open your pool much much earlier. I'm on long island and I open around April when the pool water is about 60 degrees

Finally got the Intex up - Now what? So confused

Why did you have to drain it 4 times? CYA is stabilizer or cyanuric acid. It acts as sunscreen for your chlorine. Without any CYA any chlorine you add would be consumed by the sun in a few hours. You need a good test kit from TFT Test kits, don't rely on pool store testing or test strips To...

help with high cya levels and low free chlorine with SWG

I think you are correct. Although its rated for pools under 15,000 gallons, I estimated the original poster's gallons at about 16,500 using pool math. I think its undersized. - - - Updated - - - According to pool math using 16x 32 x 4.3 ft deep I get 16,500. Plus I use an intex SWG, they...

How long does SLAM take: one man's story

What is clarifier and what does it do? Just curious I have a micromesh cover also and live in NY. I used it when I had my intex and would open to clear water and some fine dirt on the floor. The key is to close in late October and bring your water up to shock level.

    Intex Level Advice

I had a 14 foot by 42" intex last year. I had everything level but I didn't use patio blocks and one side a few of the legs sunk into the ground making the pool not level. It was off by about 1.5 "Squares" of the liner. It was fine. Anything more than 2 squares I would be a bit worried. I...

    Stabilizer at bottom of pool

After I added the stabilizer to my pool I read about the sock method which is genius. My question is can the CYA sitting at the bottom of my pool for the last 3 days like "burn" through the liner? Should I vacuum it up or will it eventually dissolve. This is probably a dumb question but that...
