    Dirty Pool

I would say yes, it is possible that the “spider gasket” in your multi-port could be worn and recirculating unfiltered water. This would send dirt (And perhaps DE ) back into the pool. Not sure which multi-port you have, but read about replacing the gasket online first. I’m sure you can even...

    Dirty Pool

Sounds like it's internal to the filter. I would suggest checking the 3 things I mentioned above. Be especially careful that if you do replace the o-ring (#12), that the summer high school kid at the pool supply store sells you the correct o-ring. See if you can identify the OEM part number...

    Dirty Pool

chances are it's not, unless the multiport valve is misdirecting and is causing the flow to bypass the filter, and act as if it's on recirculate. When you are vacuuming, is there pressure in the tank? If you open up the bleeder valve, does water gush out of the filter while vacuuming?

    Dirty Pool

I believe you have a DE filter with grids, similar to this one. Open up the tank and check the grids (#14) for tears, the manifold (#11) for cracks, and most overlooked - the health of the o-ring (#12).

    Too full!

If you set the multiport to waste, rinse, or backwash, what happens? Where does the water go ?

    Too full!

If you have a multiport valve, you can set it to waste, which will shoot the water out thru the hose that you would normally use when you're back washing your DE filter

Advice on measuring my kidney-shaped pool?

Why bother figuring out how much to drain the pool 50%. Why didn't you just drain it half way ???????

Advice on measuring my kidney-shaped pool?

Nah, that's not really overboard. I thought you were going to tell us that you bought a 3D printer, and duplicated a 1:100 scale model of your pool, then measured the amount of water it took to fill the model.

Advice on measuring my kidney-shaped pool?

pretty straight forward. Here's the calculation. Please substitute your actual measurements. overall length (I'd guess about 40') x average width (I'd guess about 20') x average depth (probably 6') x "free form factor" (I'd say 80%) x 7.5 = 29,000 gallons. (give or take).

Advice on measuring my kidney-shaped pool?

Sure (I was just having this conversation on another thread, btw) we need to figure out surface area and average depth. can you sketch out the pool for us?
