Salt water taste - minimum salt level

Honestly, I keep mine at about 3400 and don’t think I can even taste the salt in the water. It’s only something like 1% of the salt content of the ocean.

New Hayward TurboCell: $1700 including labor. Is this normal markup?

That’s a job even I would attempt to tackle. I think you can pick up the cells for -$400 from a Amazon. Somebody is trying to take advantage!

How much work is it to maintain a salt pool.

Yes, salt water generator is the way to go. It probably won’t save you any more money than other means, but it is so much more convenient. Basically, you set the chlorine output and the pump run time at the level it takes to maintain the chlorine levels and you are good to go!

T-15 Cell for 30K Pool - is it enough?

I have the T-15 for a 36k pool. I run it 4-6 hours per day and it is able to maintain chlorine levels.

    Thinking to switch to salt

I agree with the convenience factor of SWG. It’s really a set it and forget it device. As long as the pool is holding the chlorine at the right level, everything is good. There is going to be a pretty big initial cost of salt - guessing between $500-750, but then will probably only need a few...

    Thinking to switch to salt

90,000? That’s quite the pool. Pictures? I think the biggest SWG Hayward makes is for 40,000 gallons, so you would need a couple of them. Plus, you would also need about 50-60 bags of salt to get it going.

    Anyone run Dual SWG?

I have a 36,000 gallon pool and run a single Hayward T-15 SWG spec’d for 40,000 gallons. I don’t yet have any problems keeping the chlorine up running pump 4-6 hours per day.

    Brick coping with SWG

I don’t think so. I had brick coping installed with my salt pool a couple of years ago. I haven’t seen any issues because of it. Relatively speaking it is a small amount of salt 3300 ppm which is a small fraction of the salinity of the ocean.

Best to have pump run longer or have a higer SWG %?

I run my SWG at 100% for 4-6 hours. Chlorine production is the critical path. Pool gets skimmed and cleaned in that time. So, if I need more chlorine, I run longer.

Possibly Converting to Salt--ARE THE MONTHLY CHEMICAL SAVINGS REALLY THERE??

Yes, the salt cell - couldn’t think of the word when I typed that.

Possibly Converting to Salt--ARE THE MONTHLY CHEMICAL SAVINGS REALLY THERE??

Oh - I do usually buy a 5 gallon jug or two in April / May to add chlorine to the pool. SWG’s don’t really work when the water is 65 degrees or so. I add it manually in September / October too when I’m not using the pool but running the spa.

Possibly Converting to Salt--ARE THE MONTHLY CHEMICAL SAVINGS REALLY THERE??

Well, you won’t have to buy bleach every month anymore. However, depending on the size of your pool you will have to add salt. I think my 36,000 gallon pool took ~25 bags of salt at $8 initially. After that, I’ve been adding a bag or two every year due to splash out or when the pool company...

    Hayward setting? What percent.

How long do you run your pump? I run my SWG at 100% but only for about 4 hours during the week - enough time to add some chlorine, skim the top, and run the cleaner. I run it for 6-8 on the weekends because we are using it. The amount of chlorine generated is based on percentage and run time.

Adding MA while SWCG is on?

I never thought of it that way. However, I dump my MA in front of the return with the filter on and the SWG going.

Pricing out new pool... SWG questions...

I only add 1-2 bags of salt per year now that it is up and running. It doesn’t really change much unless you have to drain the pool down for some reason. Salt cells are expensive, but your not dumping chlorine in every couple of days. I think I saw somewhere where the cost is about even. It’s...

At a CYA of 80, you’re probably looking at an FC in the 6-7 range.

Considering SWG but cautious about salt PPM

Mine runs at about 3200 Ppm’s. I love it - it’s a set it and forget it as far as maintaining chlorine. I just have to check run the tests a couple times a week to make sure it’s producing as much as is getting used. I don’t think I’d have a pool without one now that I have it. I haven’t seen...

Automation system worth the added expense? Tight budget

It is nice to have. Saves the trips back and forth to the equipment pad. I'd also say that I think it matters what you have in your system. Are you running an attached spa? In-pool cleaner? Waterfall? Deck jets? Heater? My remote tied into automation can pretty much do everything I could do at...

    Adding s SWG

Hi, I have the Hayward PS-8 installed. I think all you need is about 12" of straight-line pipe to install the saltwater generator ($465 on Amazon). Plug that in, hook up the flow meter, and update the configuration to include the SWG and Model. Oh - and you'll have to add some salt to your...

Started Up Today--What Salt to Use

I have a 36,000 gallon pool and it took 25 bags of salt to get up to 3200 ppm. Pool math has the calculation. I did get it from the pool store but it was priced competitively at about 7.50 a bag.

How many hours a day do you run your pump?

I do 10AM-2PM during the week and 10AM-3PM on the weekends. However, I also turn it on when someone is in the pool, so most days it is probably running 6-8 hours. I noticed my FCC creeping up running at 100%, so I just dialed it back to 75%.
