Are you keeping the pool covered anytime it's not in use? A cover will do more to retain heat than solar will add. They are cheap and will go a long way to reduce that over night heat loss. Without a cover you just add heat every day and lose it every night.

I don't know much about AG pools, but looking on the site, it looks like leaks with that valve are common. It looks like some have just eliminated it and use a fitting to connect directly to the pool.

All three types of filter have their advantages and disadvantages. There is no best type. It depends on your situation and what your priorities are.... Fine filtration, easy maintainence, less water wasted.

I would think a SWG system should work well. It allows for very low chlorine levels and the salt feels better on the skin. You may also want to add borates to the pool. If you don't have direct sun exposure on the pool you may want to also have an ozonator.
