Bought a house/pool with Simple Salt system

n, You do not want to use that system.. Saltwater pools are great, but not that one as it also uses minerals. I do not know what the system looks like, but assume you could just not replace the mineral cartridges and you'd still have a salt system that would generate some chlorine, until you...

    Never enough flow

S, Depends on what you been running through it... Dirty filters are the number one reason for low flow. It might, or might not, be dirty, but in my mind, you need to eliminate it as a possibility before looking at anything else. Thanks, Jim R.

Advice on reducing high chlorine levels

S, Without knowing your CYA level, you have no idea if your FC is high or not. The higher the CYA the more FC you need. Tell us what your CYA (stabilizer) level is.. Thanks, Jim R.

Do you have to have rocks around above ground pool?

Ash, Your pool does not need the rocks other than for the visual effect. That said, replacing the rocks with grass means that you will have to keep the grass trimmed which is hard to do without the grass getting into the pool. Thanks, Jim R.

    Sprinkler irrigation wires near pool

-0, I edited my post. it should have said... "Sprinkler wires are low voltage so there is just no issue where you run them." Sorry, Jim R.

Question about converting between 1.5" and 2" pipe on Aquasport 52 pool

Eric, For all practical purposes, you will never notice the difference between 1.5" and 2" plumbing. Using adapter will work just fine. The bigger the filter the better in almost every case. Thanks, Jim R.

    Low flow help

Jon, I don't see anything obvious, but here are some random thoughts. Can your filter be connected backwards? Not sure yours even has an Input and Output side??? Messy, but you could disconnect the input to the heater and see what kind of flow you had, and then do the same test after your...

    Low flow help

Jon, Take the cartridge out and run it and see what happens. I suspect that your flow will return to normal. If it does, you will know the cartridge is the issue. Did you use Floc or Clarifier last year? Using the wrong products can clog the filter in a way that will not just hose off...

Where should I drain pool water?

k, It might depend on where you live. In my area you are only allowed to drain to the sewer and not the street. A lot of people just ignore the rule and normally don't get caught... Jim R.

Blue torrent heat pump with E2 Error code

C, I know you said heat pump, but I was thinking that this error was about "water pressure".. and that is why I suggested cleaning the filter. If this is a low refrigerant issue, the pool filter will have nothing to do with it. Sorry for any confusion, Jim R.

Blue torrent heat pump with E2 Error code

C, I suspect your filter is dirty.. What is your filter pressure? Running the pump should not hurt the heater.. But it is not going to heat. Thanks, Jim R.

    Autostart after Power Failure?

M, To be honest I know very little about the Intex saltwater systems. Seems to me that I read that to get an Intex SWCG to power up after a power failure, you have to actually push a button. I am not sure that is true or not, but something that you could simulate pretty easily. Let's see if...

    Autostart after Power Failure?

M, I am sure it matters what specific equipment you have, but over here, most systems are wired so that the salt cell runs whenever the pump is running. Tell us more about what equipment you have. Any external timer would have to have a battery backup mode so it would continue to keep time...

EDIT - Pool Bonding Question - See Comment # 6

Aaron, VS pumps can run at very low flow rates, so inverting the cell might be necessary if you had a VS pump. A two speed pump runs at 1750 RPM and then should be plenty so that you don't have to mount it upside down.. You can if you want, but I doubt you will need to do it.. Here is an...

can I plug the hole on my skimmer lid?

P, I think the hole is just so you can get the lid off.. I'd plug the hole with a 6" piece of PVC that I could use as a handle. Thanks, Jim R.

    Pool lights.

G, Keep in mind that pool rated lights have transformers that are made specifically so that if the transformer blows up, or goes bad, it won't let the high voltage from the Primary side get into the Secondary low voltage side.. I doubt that your rope lights would ever be a problem... but who...

    Filter size question

5$, You need to backwash when the pressure goes up by 25 to 30% over your clean pressure.. When you backwash, you add 80% of the DE that you would when new.. Once a year you need to open the filter and clean the grids.. Since you are in PA, you can do that when you close for the winter...

    Filter size question

5$, How else are you going to backwash the filter?? To backwash you need an MPV or a push/pull valve.. Really not much different than a sand filter. Thanks, Jim R.

    Filter size question

5$, I can't see why not.. But keep in mind you will need to be able to backwash it.. So it needs to come with a multiport valve (MVP) or a push/pull valve. Thanks, Jim R.

    Flocculant and Cartridge filter

G, It will gum up the cartridges and you often can't clean them.. Since you don't mind buying new cartridges, why not run a test.. Vacuum it through the filter and tells us how it worked and how many cartridges you had to buy. It won't hurt your pump. If you follow the TFP pool care...
