Ash, Your pool does not need the rocks other than for the visual effect. That said, replacing the rocks with grass means that you will have to keep the grass trimmed which is hard to do without the grass getting into the pool. Thanks, Jim R.

Jon, Take the cartridge out and run it and see what happens. I suspect that your flow will return to normal. If it does, you will know the cartridge is the issue. Did you use Floc or Clarifier last year? Using the wrong products can clog the filter in a way that will not just hose off...

5$, You need to backwash when the pressure goes up by 25 to 30% over your clean pressure.. When you backwash, you add 80% of the DE that you would when new.. Once a year you need to open the filter and clean the grids.. Since you are in PA, you can do that when you close for the winter...

lil, So, just so that we are all on the same page... You have a pump and a filter.. The filter does not use any electricity, but of course the pump/motor does.. Show us a pic of the cut cord... and where it connects to the motor.. it could be as simple as replacing or patching the cord...

G, It will gum up the cartridges and you often can't clean them.. Since you don't mind buying new cartridges, why not run a test.. Vacuum it through the filter and tells us how it worked and how many cartridges you had to buy. It won't hurt your pump. If you follow the TFP pool care...
