I have never seen Cover Free described as "liquid solar heat." It produces no heat, just helps prevent heat loss via evaporation. I use it and I still have to get the water heated myself.

Yeah, that's almost certainly what it is. A 1/2 cup of bleach in four gallons of fill water should tell you something after 15 minutes. If needed, it's probably best to add the sequestrant before chlorinating and you should avoid seeing the discoloration.

Sounds like sequestrant, in case you have iron or otherwise "hard" water. Are you filling with municipal water or well water? You can perform a bucket test to see if it's necessary. Search "bucket test for metals." My well failed the test but fortunately my in-laws next door have muni water :-)...

My skimmer goes above the weld and I keep my water within one "square" of the top.

If your Ultra Frame doesn't come with the rope for the bottom of the legs, as mine did(n't), some sort of ratcheting strap combination to keep the legs as close to the pool and plumb as possible is just as important as what's under the feet -- in my humble opinion ;-)

Where are you located? As long as you can excavate level to the lowest point of your proposed site, why do you think you need sand? A frame around it for landscaping, maybe. But sand is an unnecessary element, especially if you intend to put down the EPS foam. Good luck!

Why not erect the pool and install the skimmer as it fills but before water reaches the skimmer level? You'll still be able to use the butterfly gasket as intended and you're likely for the side panel to be stretched more closely to its ultimate position. Trying to assemble the frame and liner...
