Yep...and my pool store told me the water out of my tap had CYA in it...

True story...took a sample of tap water to the pool store, mostly because I'm just silly like that. CYA was 50 or 60, can't remember...but... There's no CYA in tap water.

I can't address the original question as I'm not familiar with that surface type. However, on first very quick glance as I'm walking out the door... part of the increases in Ph are related to the fountains. Fountains aerate the water. Aeration of water raises Ph. Try shutting the fountains...

May I suggest it may be the detergent used to wash your towels? The common denominator other than water of course is that you'd use a towel to dry off..

I think 99% of the professionals out there could learn a thing or ten from TFP.

The info, support, and fun times ( I tried to spell comraderie..and I couldn't get it right without dictionary.com) are well worth my membership. I chose the higher level...because at the time, I could. This website and her members are hands down worth 10 times what a supporting membership is...

I just had my tab chlorinator removed. The line was replumbed I got a liquidator to auto feed liquid chlorine/bleach. I've noticed a few things... 1. The jet pressure on my return is fantastic now as the tab feeder was allowing air into the pressure side of my system. 2. Jug dumping was fine...

The kit will be the key...but I can tell you even when I was shocking the last time, FC numbers in the 20s...I didn't smell chlorine.

What else am I supposed to do....my Liquidator is chlorinating my pool... :mrgreen:

I agree in most cases, and I can't say I've never done that.......however, sometimes I have tasks that require leaving the house..plus I try to drink 2-4 qts of water each day....may as well get 8-12 oz in with the drugs. :mrgreen:

FWIW, my tap water I drank today to take my medicine tasted more 'chlorine-y' than my pool....blech!

Bring Chlorine to 1-3 you can. Get algae you will. Pool stores are clueless, they are. (Sorry, couldn't resist the yoda-talk.)

I can tell you that everyone I've shown the Liquidator to this weekend feigns interest and says 'oh, that's nice, uh, good job?' I give up. :mrgreen:

cruz- This is the natural progression of those of us who really have control of our pools. Many many many folks just don't want to get it. I would venture that if I tested 100 pools in my area, based on what I know the standard recipe is from pool places around here, that MAYBE 5 of them would...

Not to discount any issues with the water chemistry, but have you changed sunscreens/blocks recently for the kids. We had a similar problem awhile back and determined that was the problem. Switched back to the original one, and no problem.

Either are fine. One is more aggressive than the other, but both will work.

I just read about the Nature 2 a bit...and I stopped at copper. You know the color of grass?? Yah, that's the color my daughter's hair turns whenever there's copper in a pool. This issue, alone, is 'just say no to nature 2'. Even if you have no blond children in your family, if one comes to...

I'm not familiar with the Nature 2 so someone else can chime in...but my understanding is that it's bunk that it helps sanitize the pool. All I think (help someone!!) is that it adds metals to your pool that you don't need and could cause you problems. I don't think it can allow you lower FC...

I don't know about the copper line question but I can answer the testing one. It isn't going to mess you up to test in the morning. Many of us test in the evening and add our chlorine. If I am busy or not home, I certainly test in the morning and add then. The other thing is when you get a...

Can these be cut in half and still be effective? I just got some (oooohhh 33% bigger now!) and it is a bit too big for the skimmer...the lid keeps it in one place. Plus I'm cheap, err, thrifty, and I like to get the most for my money...Seems like there's a lot of space that doesn't get used.

You have come to the right place and you are in good hands. I absolutely agree with the test kit. You will not be sorry. The pool places are notoriously inconsistent and just plain wrong. They only want to sell products that you don't need or can get elsewhere and will likely screw up your pool...

My 2 cents is that they really don't know what is happening. I used pucks exclusively up till this year. Never knew any different. I just thought what was happening was the norm and we adjust accordingly. The typical pattern is early in the season I had the chlorinator on medium or low and pump...

I can't find washing soda here either. I just had to buy PH + instead...boo..same exact ingredient of sodium carbonate, but 3x as much $$$.... Borax is proving a bit hard to come by around here too...I guess I better stop telling people about TFP...
