Double check your CYA With tabs and granular shock, it is probably much higher than 30.

I use the first empty bleach bottle of the year & cut a large opening under the handle. After that I pour in 3 cups water, use a sharpie to mark a level all the way around, repeat at 6 cups, 9 cups etc. (I do remove the label first) I use this as my personalized measuring jug.

How did your FC go up overnight? Did you turn off the SWG like its supposed to for an OCLT?

We don't use sandbags due to this exact reason. What we did is: Cut PVC pipe to the length required to sit inside bottom steps, glue a cap one side, fill with concrete (or gravel), glue 2nd cap on the other side. We have 3 of those tubes, reuse them every year, and have not trouble with algae...

Can you test the pool? If it feels like Chloramines, maybe it is.

With CYA at 65, your FC is pretty low. This might be the beginning of an algae bloom?

Is there any ammonia runoff from fertilizer going into the pool?

Is this a testing mix up? I don't understand this, after you have the FC number, you add 5 drops of 0003 to the same water (should turn pink) then you go back to the 0871 to turn it back to clear. Still with the same water. If this is what you are doing, I have no clue what is going on. :confused:

I converted a few years ago, but remembered that it took over 40 gal of bleach. (Still have the bottle caps, since I made a cool memory game out of them!!)

My refill also came with the PH reagents r-0014. I'm having trouble with the color. After adding 5 drops, it's still clear. I used some left-over PH reagents r-004 from last year, the color is fine & I can determine my PH level. When I use double the r-0014 drops, it is the same as last years...

Even if you think your water is fine, you never know for sure. You might not have problems at first, but when you do...... you wish you had the correct test kit in order to know EXACTLY how to fix it. Or at least get answers from members here. Because without the correct test results, nobody...

Are you sure it's 70? If you can still see the dot, it's lower than 70. Add solution until you can not see the dot anymore.

Re: In middle of conversion to Chlorine from Baquacil. HELP!!! Conversions take time, the goo is normal, keep adding bleach to shock level & bump it up every hour or so. My conversion took about 60 or so bottles of bleach & around 2 weeks.

Did the same mistake you did, not too long ago. You need to add #0871 until the color changes to clear for the FC, then add 5 drops of #003 fo figure out the CC

When I converted, it took A LOT of bleach!!! I kept adding, until there was no more stuff floating, and my water was crystal clear, and no more than .5 CC. In the mean time I tried to keep my FC at about 15 the whole time. (You keep the water at shock level during the whole conversion process)...

While a HUGE waste of water, ---- why not replace a little bit of water every day instead of 1 huge replacement? You will have to keep up with the chlorine.
