    FC level!!

Morning all, this morning's chemistry update: FC remained at 2.5 from last night - I’m adding 48oz this morning to get it to 6.0 FC, and will check it again later in the day. The 4 lbs of stabilizer I put in the skimmer yesterday has not fully dissolved yet (I need to get out and squeeze that...

    FC level!!

Thanks "Lake & Herman", I intend to get the CYA up to 70ppm, and the FC to 5-7.0 once I get reliable reagents. Herman, your comment reminded me on how quickly the FC can drop in this hot sunny weather with zero CYA. For now I've added 64oz of liquid chlorine and will retest the FC in 30 min and...

    FC level!!

Question: how much liquid chlorine should I get in the pool asap? Recent history. I did a 90% refill last night and early this morning. Before I left this morning I asked Pool Math how much liquid chlorine I should add with 0% FC. It said something like 38oz. I thought that was way too low so I...

Thanks Marty. I'm waiting to see where he is on all this. I'll report back with an update.

Would you still suggest a SLAM after the refill?

    Phosphate Issue and more

Thanks for the info Marty. I need to copy the posts that explain why and send those to him. The threads I read those on had a number real chem tech stuff that would shut him down - it did me. The 375 CH was using my T-100 kit. We live 15 minutes from each other that number made me test it...

    Phosphate Issue and more

Hello TFP! I’m helping a friend (and introducing him to the wonders of TFP). This is what he tells me. He experiences a light green (or greenish) color on the steps. When he brushes it, it easily lifts up and disperses. He has a Polaris MAXX auto cleaner thats on 7hrs a day when the pump is in...

My chemistry is a mess ...

Thanks Splash & Squirrel! Yes, in a couple days I imagine my 7.4 PH will rise to 8.0. My current goal is to try to get my CSI to be under .03. I'll wait two days and see how much the PH increases. Rocket, OH I am aware of the looming water rate increases (fingers crossed). I just did not find...

My chemistry is a mess ...

My chemistry is a mess and we leave in a few days for a week-long 25th anniversary celebration. My head has been in the sand and delayed taking action to find someone I can trust to bead/sand blast the calcium build up on our tiles. This avoidance has delayed the drain/refill of freakishly...

High CH and timing of draining our pool

Thanks everyone. I decided to eek it out and wait until we return in late November to dain the pool. Right after that decision, amazingly the PH rise much slower. My my calculations I will ask our friends who are staying at the house to add 32 oz of MA after 3 or 4 days and that should handle...

High CH and timing of draining our pool

Thanks Pat! Will the demand for MA reduce with the colder weather and reduced angle of the sun in mid Nov? I imagine if I lowered the PH the day we leave to maybe 7.2 it would be well over 8.2 when we returned 7 days later. Would the PH and resulting CSI being so out of wack for that period have...

High CH and timing of draining our pool

HELP! My CH is officially out of control (1200) so it’s drain time. Now I’m wondering a few things. 1 - Is there a problem to add my salt after refilling, knowing that it will soon be too cold for the SWG to produce chlorine? 2 - We will be on vacation for 7 days in mid November when I know...

High TA, adding MA daily to keep my CSI low

ahhh, how do I know if my ph "likes it" :-? Since I have to add 16 to 24+ oz daily I might think the PH is not happy.

High TA, adding MA daily to keep my CSI low

Thanks Marty. What mught you suggest as a target TA, 60 or 70?

High TA, adding MA daily to keep my CSI low

A little over a week ago I drained our pool due to very high CH (1200). Our fill water has a TA of 120 and has stayed at that number for 8 days. I'm adding between 16 to 40oz almost daily(60oz today) to keep my PH around 7.5 and CSI slightly below 0. I reviewed the ABC's of pool chemistry and...

IC40 High Salt Reading / High CH

Good Monday Afternoon! We’ve been so happy that our pool is looking so good and with very little effort - thanks to all of you! The IC40 is blinking High Salt - but it certainly producing enough chlorine at 60% with the pump running 5 hours a day. From what I’ve read here, I know that what the...

Rising CH: Water is only 3.5 months old.

Thanks kingstar, right there under my nose! Pat, I did not replace any water, only added the MA and I have been paying the price for my aggressive MA addition. I have not added any MA since and my pH today is up to 7.7, unfortunately the CSI is raising very slowly (today -.57, up from -.62...

Rising CH: Water is only 3.5 months old.

Thanks Allen. I'm looking at pMath (mobile app) and can't seem to locate “Effects of adding chemicals” at the bottom of any page. Can you direct me to where I can find it.

Rising CH: Water is only 3.5 months old.

Update, today my numbers were FC: 6.0 CC: 0.0 (2 days ago) pH: 7.8 TA: 70 (2 days ago) CH: 570 CYA: 70 (2 days ago) Temp: 56° CSI: .10 So I added MA to lower my pH, which should also lower my TA and CH. 4 hours later my numbers are: FC: 6.0 CC: 0.0 (2 days ago) pH: 7.2 TA: 50 CH: 550 CYA: 70 (2...

Rising CH: Water is only 3.5 months old.

Yeah, not too practical... even with fingers and legs crossed:-) When it does rain here, it generally (but not always) is a REALLY good amount. The last good rain added almost 3". That may happen a few times a year.

Rising CH: Water is only 3.5 months old.

Thanks TS! Yes I have found keeping my pH at 7.8 is best to keep the CSI between -.3 and 0. Today I knew that my dropping the pH to 7.5 today that it would force the CSI lower. The last month or so it seems that when using pMath's calculation of how much MA to add, when I test a 2 and 4 hours...

Rising CH: Water is only 3.5 months old.

For the last month or so I’ve been reading up on TFP as to how to improve my test numbers. I must say it’s making my head spin. I thought about posting my questions on an already existing chemical/testing thread, just was not sure which one... so I started a new one. First I want to tackle my...
