    allergic to hot tub

I am also allergic to bromine, though in me it triggers an asthma-like effect. Switch to chlorine to maintain your HT and your hubby should be fine so lng as your sanitization level is adequate. Usually, rashes in hot tubs mean ineffective sanitization levels.

Does a spa cycle like a aquarium?

+1 - Hot tub is the opposite of a marine aquarium ;)

    Filter Cycle question

I don't know if this will help you or not but I have an old jacuzzi that uses a two speed pump. On mine, it goes into circ mode every hour. The jets do not activate (eg no blower) when in circ mode. It is still circulating the water, which is the point....just not at high speed and not with the...

    Does this pump sound normal?

Mike, I hate to say it, but that doesn't sound normal to me. I would consider getting a spa repair person out to investigate the pump motor.

Power outages and winter maintenance? I have a softub

Hi spork. I'm over in Grand Rapids so know your clime. Re winter refills, I've configured a utility sink and hose container that I drag/run out to the hot tub for top ups as needed, and do a water change right before hard winter and right after. Re: power outage...my jacuzzi sport holds temp...

Install Pool with Hot Tub or no Hot Tub

I'm a fan of standalone hot tub if you're someone whose seriously interested in hot tub benefits. Easy to operate in winter, and to my mind, easier to trouble shoot and manage when the systems are separate. Since I keep my pool in the neighborhood of 90, I like the hot tub at 104 ;) Its much...

    Inadequate Heating

Greetings and welcome back. Especially with a small portable, I would not necessarily be too concerned about it taking 24 hrs to get up to temp. My very old Jacuzzi will take more than a day after water change to get to 104 if my water starts in the 0s. It has no trouble keeping the water at...

Anyone use an inflatable spa in winter? (freezing temps)

Cybergy, I too hate junk. But don't want to spend the price of a small car on a spa ;) So several years ago I bought a very old jacuzzi sport (echo) for about $400 on Craig's list. I've since spent money on a pressure switch, replacement of a 15 year old 2 h pump, a new light, leak repair and a...

Proteam metal magic vs Startup Tec vs Beautec

Silvergirl, I've used metal magic in my hot tub during winters when my water source was raw well without any problems. But I also don't use it if its summer and I can fill from my softened water. But I have a known level of iron in my well (2 ppm). You will know pretty quickly whether you need...

Stuck in Econ mode on very old jacuzzi ;)

Oh happy day! The topside contoller worked perfectly and no harm came to me or the circuit board and this time I didn't even get silicone in my hair! ;) I'd call that a win! Ataching my new solar cover to my new rocky reel "swing arm" -- which had to be done IN water, IN the dome, was another...

Stuck in Econ mode on very old jacuzzi ;)

Lol. Love the thunderdome, but it's 95 in there, not 104...I've become quite accustomed to my 104 soak before the 95 swim ;) First world problems, eh? Thanks, Richard. I'm trying to get a replacement topside here fast-ish to check. That is my step one. (Instead of the obsolete Jacuzzi, I am...

Stuck in Econ mode on very old jacuzzi ;)

This is probably a Hail Mary, but aside from electrical disconnection and reboot, removing topside controller cover, etc. is there any way to Jerry-rig and old Jacuzzi sport to get it out of Econ mode? Any troubleshooting tips? The mode button s the ONLY one not working on the controls. I do...

    Low CH and cloudy water

I just wanted to say welcome to TFP and tell you I love your fair city, which I had the delight of visiting many years back ;) I don't use bromine in my hot tub because I am allergic, so i can't help you there. But you may wish to consider switching it to the "Di-chlor then bleach" method we...

    Corroded Water Heater

Bakr, could you please be more specific in this: I'd like to have an idea of what you think requires updating/or what these thoughts are so that i can explore the topic and be aware of it when helping other posters.

    Corroded Water Heater

It's a jacuzzi sport, and actually its older than I said because its a late 90s model! A few years ago I did have to change the 2 hp pump, which was pricey (eg $800 with labor in) but I'd figured even if I got another year it was still a cheaper date than new and I'm not convinced that despite...

    Corroded Water Heater

This combination doesn't quite add up to me. If it was just out of warranty, I might call the repair guy, ask for it back, and send it to the mfg, asking fo an explanation (and maybe a cost-share n its replacement.) My hot tub is more than 15 years old, my ch is never more than 150 b/c I fill...

    Staining

Also...is it possible to replace the rusty fixtures, or remove, grnd, refinish and seal? If the steel fixtures are easy to remove, you might also try hub cap chrome cream...I've successfully removed rust from high gloss chrome mid-century furniture with same.

    Leaving tub on vacation

Hi Tim. I am also in Michigan, and given our unpredictable weather, would not leave it drained in March. I'm also a bit less optimistic that you won't zero out in 8 days...i have tried this and zeroed out, which in my opinion, then requires a cleaning of the jets with something like Ahhsome for...

Self made hot tub almost done!

Forgive my ignorance, I don't mean to add to the confusion, but I AM confused about something in your set up: Aren't hot tubs supposed to have two-speed pumps in order to do circulation mode? ( or alternately, a second circ pump.) Eg. How is the heater to function in Thermostatting if there is...

    Hot Tub purchase advice

Fwiw, I've been running an ancient, sport-sized Jacuzzi that I believe is now hovering around 20 years. I did have to replace the 2 HP pump at 17 years...$800 installer price, much cheaper DIY - then the capacitor...cheap part. I also had to replace a leaking light last year...at about $150...

Going to purchase a cedar round wood hot tub - any advice?

What a gorgeous little room you have there. You are going to have a super sweet winter ;) I love my outdoor hot tub even in the snow, and like looking at the stars, but if I had room to add a sauna and cedar tub to my house, I think I'd go that route ;)

separate or combine systems for jacuzzi and IG pool?

^I'm gonna let Matt answer that one but I expect like everything the difference is in proportion to scale ;) But I did want to chime in about your original question. Your comment about wanting the power of the jacuzzi jets would lead me to believe you use your hot tub therapeutically. I would...

Boiler instead of a pool heater?

Ok, now i get how youd be using it -- the boiler you're talking about is one of those condenser type efficient boilers. (Mine is not...its old school with an indirect hwt.) The only thing I know about condensing boilers is that hvac guys will warn they have about half the lifespan of a...

Boiler instead of a pool heater?

Interesting idea, though I don't have any pool experience to offer. I do have a whole-house boiler that also heats our hot water tank. I love it but I can tell you its $15k worth of equipment and even swapping out a failed pump ran $800 on it...so I never thought of a boiler for the pool, though...

    Refill a spa every 2 a 3 weeks

Welcome, Edwin. A centimeter a week isn't bad if you consider the steam that comes off when open and carry out every time you get out of the spa. If you have no other signs of a leak, you're probably fine.

Hot tub water turning translucent green after adding Shock

If you're on well (and I suppose even if not) Metal Gone spa metal sequestrant will clear iron tint for sure, with maintenance dosing of Metal Defender. (It what I use in the hot tub and my raw well water has 2 ppm iron. I also started using a Prefresh Filter last season, which helps to a degree...
