Freeze Preparations (TX, LA, GA, AL, FL, etc)

Went thru the Texas freeze Feb '21 and had ice then, but this is bizarre. I am pointing my phone camera west (north is to the right) wind from the north all night. Pump running under freeze protection 1850 rpm with maybe 10-15% through the spa. This formation is entirely from the spillover...

Freeze Preparations (TX, LA, GA, AL, FL, etc)

Over four years with the pool and still learning. Water flow through the booster line was today's new and welcome info. I haven't used the pressure side cleaner in a couple years or so since moving to a robot, but I have been every so often run the booster pump for five minutes or so thinking...

Freeze Preparations (TX, LA, GA, AL, FL, etc)

Hey Salty, I'd be curious to hear how draining the booster pump works. When I tried to drain my Pentair Universal Booster Pump, via the white drain plug near the bottom, water never stopped coming out. I suspect the way it's connected to the system, it will keep draining as long as the filter...

Freeze Preparations (TX, LA, GA, AL, FL, etc)

I have the same situation. The water feature pump does not have freeze protection, so choice is leave running or shut off and drain. I chose the latter. The Pentair Whisperflow will drain down only slightly with power off and the pot lid open, so it is necessary to open the drain plug. On...

Freeze Preparations (TX, LA, GA, AL, FL, etc)

Re antifreeze. I don't know what RV antifreeze is, but if it's propylene glycol instead of ethylene glycol, that's the way to go. The former is nontoxic while the latter--used in cars for a hundred years--is poison for most animals (and birds too, I've been told.)

    Surprise frigid temps!

I'm in Katy--just west of Houston--and the big Texas freeze was my first experience with freezing equipment. Pentair's freeze protection turned on the filter pump as set (38 degrees) However the Pentair Whisperflo pump used for water features, I learned later, did not have freeze protection...

Dial back SWCG or keep it as is?

I've only had my IC40 since June 1. As a micro manager, I find I'm often adjusting either the run time or the percent. I try to keep the percent at 20 and adjust run time up or down. For example, my current schedule is 9:30am to 7:15pm AND 2:15am to 3:45am. Both of these are with the pump...

Questions about keeping pool open this winter

Your Intelliflo pump has a freeze protection feature you can enable. By default, when enabled it turns on the pump, as I recall, when the temp drops to 38 degrees and shuts it off when it rises to 43 degrees. I have the Intelliconnect box for control and settings, but I'm pretty sure all those...

    pH not changing. Bad acid?

Question, Dave. Is the pH measure still accurate at chlorine at 9.5 and 10ppm?

    Winter is depressing...

FWIW, if you continue a heater search, I'd be curious to hear from members here with a Pentair Mastertemp. I have one, but it's only 1.5 years old. It could be my imagination, but it seems like I read A LOT of problems and failures with this heater. I hope I'm wrong, but I think Pentair...
