problem is, the threaded universal wall fitting is buried in the pool wall- so I only have access to the quick-disconnect end. Basically, I need something like this: https://www.poolzoom.com/eyeball-fitting.html with no hole. I tried filling the hole with putty, but the whole eyeball pops out...

thanks- I will do that and report. Soaking the grids in acid and TSP sounds like a huge pain- I may just order new grids if it comes to that.

what I meant is that immediately after backwash (or full clean), the pressure is around 22psi (when I first got the filter, it was 20, so "clean" pressure has not changed much). Problem is, it raises very quickly after that to 27-28 psi (it used to take longer)

I see. The clean pressure has gone up slightly over 3 years (maybe 2 psi) so it's probably not the grids....

what do you mean by clean pressure? the polaris pressure goes down when filter pressure goes up.

there is only one pipe after the filter returning to the pool (it splits into jets and pressure-side cleaner port under ground). Can I still install a booster pump? Diagrams I have seen all show a dedicated line going only to the cleaner port.

so I opened the air bleed and let the water go below the return pipe. It took a while but I did not have to open the drain plug- did not lose any DE!

I just cleaned the grids and charged the filter, but there is a small leak around the belt. I need to lift the top to fix the O-ring. Question is, can I do this without losing the DE? Or do I need to backwash, service, and recharge?

we all know that during backwash process, you are supposed to switch between normal and reverse flow direction several times in order to get as much DE and dirt out as possible. My question is, can you switch between backwash and rinse positions, as opposed to switch between backwash and filter...

that is 20 on/off cycles within minutes- wouldn't that damage the pump windings electrically?

I have noticed if I backwash until clear, rinse, and backwash again, water comes out dirty again. I have repeated this 3 times and still not quite satisfied with clarity- makes me want to open it up every time I need to clean

I ordered a new O-ring- see what happens. One thing I noticed is that when I add DE (using the bucket method) the pressure does not really go up. Is it not supposed to go up?

it is dripping slowly from around the clamp. O-ring is lubed and clamp nut is torqued correctly. Also, when I opened it back up I noticed that most of new DE is at the bottom, very little has got on the grids.

during leaf season I need to clean skimmer baskets multiple times a day and don't want to shut off the pump every time. Is there a way to "lock" the weir in upright position to block the flow while you are cleaning the skimmer?

I tried the pool skim- it seems to only skim a few feet around it, as opposed to the whole pool. Also it reduces my polaris speed. Maybe my pump is just not strong enough to run both devices.

seems interesting. Only thing is, I use a certain size eyeball to regulate flow to my polaris- can you still adjust flow if you plug this into the return instead of the eyeball?

no main drain. Is there a special type of skimmer that can do that? I have tried the Hayward basket with a tower in the middle but it did not help
