    Calimar / B&D 1.5hp Pump

I would get the larger pump. You'll be able to run it at lower RPM to the point you can't even hear that it's on and the power consumption will be trivial. I'd also eliminate that restriction on the suction side leading into the pump.

    Hack a Pentair CCP320 into a CCP420

Agreed. If this info came from a random pool store I would have dismissed it. This came from a reputable equipment supplier (not a pool store) who I've seen suggested on this site several times. I think it's not outside the realm of possibility that the parts could grow slightly where they...

    Hack a Pentair CCP320 into a CCP420

I was thinking the same thing...the filter media will be the same (provided the same brand filters are used) so I wouldn't expect any changes in filtration results other than more time between cleanings. When I visited a pool equipment supplier the other day we discussed filters a bit and he...

    GPM

In theory my pump is also capable of pumping up to 140gpm. In reality the best it can do is 86gpm (according to the pump/intellicenter). With solar heat turned on about the best I can achieve is 52gpm. Have you considered lowering your 24hr flow rate? 40gpm is probably not needed.

    intelliflo3 cleaning hair from pump

Most of the hair seems to come from our dog...who doesn't even swim in the pool. Just being pool adjacent seems to be enough to get some fur in the pool. The baskets/hair net capture most of it but still a bit sneaks through. I'm surprised this is not a more common issue.

    intelliflo3 cleaning hair from pump

We have a Poolvergnuege. I have a basket inline with the hose for the vacuum but don't use hair nets on that basket.

    intelliflo3 cleaning hair from pump

I use hair nets in the main skimmer. I don't use anything other than the basket within the pump itself.

    intelliflo3 cleaning hair from pump

I'm pump shopping at the moment. I settled on the 3hp intelliflo3. I was at the store ready to purchase. they had a sample on the showroom floor. The pump is quite a bit larger than my whisperflo. Every week or two I have to stick my fingers in the pump to pull a bit of hair or tree needles...

    Seeking recommendations for new pump/SWG

Thanks for the response. Automation is not important to me but I figure some sort of communication between the solar and variable speed pump needs to occur. With the single speed pump it looks like the suntouch simply turned on the pump regardless of timer setting. I'm guessing that can also...

    Seeking recommendations for new pump/SWG

We're looking to install solar heat. Our pool once had solar heat but the panels were removed from the roof before we bought the home. I'm thinking we'll be using the solar cover less and therefore consume more chlorine. A SWG is making a lot of sense. I think the pump will be running more...

    Las Vegas leak detection

Thanks for the responses. I put a call into Leak Terminators. He wants me to confirm a leak with the bucket test before he comes out. I suppose I should have done that sooner but at this point it almost seems like a forgone conclusion. I haven't noticed any odd chemical readings. Not that I...

    Las Vegas leak detection

I believe I'm in need of leak detection service. For the last few months I've noticed more and more moisture near the equipment pad. Near the pad are a couple palm trees that are looking worse and worse. We suspect the pool plumbing is leaking and exposing these plants to chlorine. I'm...

    Diy liquid chlorine pump

I bought the same pump on ebay a few weeks ago. The "weight" was also painted white so we may have purchased from the same seller. I bought a five gallon bucket and a spin on lid to use for Chlorine. Drilled a small hole at the top of the bucket on the side for the tube...this allows easy...

Should I switch to a Variable Speed Pump?

Mark is it safe to assume you meant about $6/month, not $6/day?
