    [Another] Cloudy Water Thread

Great shirt! Just checked the pool a short bit ago and found it is 100% clear. Thanks for the support folks.

    [Another] Cloudy Water Thread

I am recovered from a bad algae outbreak - now passing the overnight test (two nights in row). My TF-Pro test kit gives me: CH: 200 (goal is 300) CYA: ~20 (currently adding, goal is 40) pH: 7.5 (goal) TA: 100 (goal is 80) Shallow end is 3 (or 3.5 feet) and I can barely see the bottom the...

    Duck Invasion

mariane, I was so disappointed about the hose failure though I couldn't get close at all and in some cases they were able to fly away before they water even reached them. I thought of trying it since I had, unrelated to my pool and the ducks, successfully used the tactic to drive nesting birds...

    Duck Invasion

It has taken since July 2014 for the ducks at the nearby pond to A) realize my pool is here, B) realize my owls are not real, or C) get comfortable with the environment of my back yard. There are now a handful of them visiting every day throughout the day. What can I do to keep them out...

    Chlorine Pucks for Vacation

Thanks, I forgot about that feature in Poolmath. Picked up a floater and a small bucket of trichlor pucks. I'm ready. Now I won't be bothering neighbors/family/friends as much to dump liquid bleach for me.

    Chlorine Pucks for Vacation

I've never used Chlorine pucks but may need to for an upcoming trip. Of course I know what my average daily need is for liquid Chlorine bleach, and I know my CYA can handle the pucks, but how do I go about determining how many pucks to use? Are there different strength pucks? My need is for 3...

    CSI

Here is my CSI for the last few months. I can explain the spikes and dips if desired though, for now at least, I suggest they be ignored. The chart shows CSI starting to drift down which is a result of water temperature dropping. Generally speaking I don't chase CSI as it will be kept in...

    Pentair Intellilevel - Feedback?

Seems smart to me. From https://pentairpool.com/en/products/automation/intellilevel%20water%20leveling%20monitor... To be fair, maybe the page I linked didn't contain the detail I quoted when the previous post I responded to was made. And, sure, "alerts for possible leaks" may be missing but...

    2018 Bleach Prices

Like many have pointed out, the grocers local to me ditched 8.25% for 6% a while back... except for one. Kroger. Until today. The last man standing finally fell. Oh and the price didn't change from 8.25 to 6. <sigh>

    Muriatic Acid Shelf Life

Does Muriatic Acid have a shelf life... it I let it sit, shaded, in the Texas heat year round does it lose potency? Thanks.

    Advice for maintaining chlorine levels

I travel quite a bit - often for at least a few days at a time, sometimes up to a week. In the case of a short trip I'll simply overdose if that will get me through without having to involve anybody else... a short trip being 2 or 3 days. For a 4 day trip I will still overdose but have...

cost efficiency - - -powdered vs. liquid bleach ?

I'm paying $3.23 ($2.99 + 8.25% sales tax) for 121 oz of 8.25% at Kroger big chain grocer (and until recently Walmart - until the strength and price was changed). Have some more price shopping to do.

New Pool day 23- Add CYA?

Sure, liquid stabilizer works. It costs more though. I've never used it to verify the following but I've read there can be issues with the product settling out, from the liquid, and to the bottom of the container so shake it well before use and check to make sure it's all out of the...

New Pool day 23- Add CYA?

Yes, use the sock-in-the-skimmer method for adding CYA. You can buy Puritech CYA via Amazon (it's Prime if you have a membership) or you may, for this round, want to get it faster from a local store. Puritech is 100% CYA whereas I've seen some store products are not.

No, after a quick look at the site it's just another pool store wanting to sell products.

Trichlor/ Liquid chlorine: possibly hybrid approach?

I will resort to the "hybrid" approach if necessary. As a way to avoid doing so though I am strongly evaluating a Stenner pump which will also reduce the need for daily attention. So it's a win-win.

How "clear" is clear? Lets compare clear water

I can clearly see a coin on the floor of my 8' pool but my vision is not good enough to determine the side. Now I wonder if others can. I'll have to check. Regardless, I feel my water is *really* clear.

Should I allow a dog in pool?

No, you should not let a dog in your pool. I don't like dogs. Hey, you asked.

    Hot Texas Sun

Since May 1 my *average* FC loss has been 2. CYA 40, full sun, 26k gallons in Dallas. That's 77 oz of 8.25% per day to target FC 6.

I love test results like these...

FC:5 (Target: 6) CC: 0 pH: 7.5 (Target: 7.5) TA: 80 (Target: 80 - yeah, yeah I know it is what it is and targeting a number isn't needed) CH: 250 (Target: 300 - I'll bump it up at some point soon) CYA: 40 (Target: 40) Water temp is 84. Gets me a CSI of -0.1 to -0.04. Added 38 oz of 8.25% and...

Check my location and pool details. Pretty similar. You're dosage is pretty close to mine so you're doing fine. Like somebody else suggested consider bumping your CYA to 40 or 50.

How much Bleach is it normal to add per day?

From May 1, 2017 - Sept 1, 2017 - basically Summer - my average daily Chlorine loss was 3.1 with a CYA of ~40. That's for a full-sun pool in Dallas, TX with, generally, one pool party a week at a minimum. Rounding to 3, I'll need to add 115 oz of 8.25% bleach to get to my goal of 6 in 26k gallons.
