My Pool Pump died, replacing with SuperMax/SuperFlo. Anything I should know before pulling the trigger?

Hi All, So, my pool pump is dead and I'm looking for a replacement. Like probably everyone else, I'm worried about overpaying and/or making a poor decision on a pump replacement. My current setup is pretty straight forward I think. 15k gallon pool, turbo cell salt chlorinator, AquaLogics...

My Hayward SWG has crapped out. Pool store recommended something else

So, my turbocell just went out. I'm pretty sure this one lasted a good 10 years or so (I've had it for 6). Word on the street is that this is a pretty long time for these things and I was probably lucky? I was at the pool store to get liquid chlorine, and I asked the GM if they sold...

New Blueworks Salt Cell Replacement Issues

You need CYA or else it will seem like the cell isn't working because the sun will basically destroy the chlorine. I went through the same when I first inherited my pool. This isn't an optional chemical, especially for an SWG. It's also very important that you keep the CYA in the correct...

Cart filter constantly clogging w/ dead algae

The most important ingredient when opening up a green pool is PATIENCE. It IS a lot of work. Remember how much work it is in the future, and don't let the pool get into bad shape again. This is something that I need to remember myself. It's much easier to simply maintain it (or close/open...

Cart filter constantly clogging w/ dead algae

I must have received the tip on these forums somewhere. That nozzle head has been a life saver when it comes to cleaning cartridge filters. I also bought the brass nozzle that others recommend on the forums, but this one has been the best and is what I continue to use.

What did you do to your pool today?

Ended my SLAM. Did an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test and Passed! (.5 FC lost, 0 CC's) Clear water. Vacuumed up some sand/dirt in the pool that came out of my waterfall (last thing that needed cleaning, worked on that yesterday). Now I'm on the home stretch to maintenance mode. I just need to...

Just finishing a slam, and forgot about the waterfall which is full of algae and leaves - requesting advice

@Richard320 @YippeeSkippy Thank you for your feedback. I wish I did have a little raft or kiddie pool and/or a shop-vac. Great tips and all those would have saved me time. I did the work and the job is done. After working on the SLAM for the past 10-11 days consistently, attacking the...

Just finishing a slam, and forgot about the waterfall which is full of algae and leaves - requesting advice

Thanks. I’ve been out there pulling river rocks and debris out of the waterfall wells. There is a bit of sandy dirt at the bottom of the waterfall wells, and this are covered by river rocks. Do I need to care about removing all the sand/dirt sediment or just the debris? It doesn’t leave those...

Just finishing a slam, and forgot about the waterfall which is full of algae and leaves - requesting advice

So I had a bit of a swamp this year after a wintertime pump failure. Today I did what I thought would be the final vacuum of dead stuff at the end of my SLAM (pending OCLT test tomorrow) When I was vacuuming, I noticed that my waterfall was dirty. Slimy green stuff and leaves/debris In there...

Greyish Powder at Bottom of Pool

I guess I was asking more for my specific scenario, and I apologize if this is considered a thread hijack but I think all the newbies can learn from this. I won't be washing my cartridge filters for the foreseeable future now that the water is clear and I recently deep cleaned them. So in my...

Hello, I'm new here. Trying to open up the pool. Help?

Got my FAS-DPD test kit today. Total Chlorine 8.5 (Shock target 12) Free Chlorine 7.5 Combined Chlorine 1 Seeing what my actual total chlorine is, I'm not sure I've actually been slamming at proper shock levels except for maybe the past 2 days. Guess that's why the test is so important! I...

Greyish Powder at Bottom of Pool

Is it only cartridge filters that you can use to dissolve powder CYA by adding directly to skimmer? I thought the sock trick was a workaround if you had to do a lot of backflushing/filter cleaning while it dissolves? Or is it also a way to not bleach your liner (if you have a liner and not...

    SLAM done?

If all of the above are true, would it still be possible to have the slight appearance of green algae anywhere in the pool? (or any type of algae). In years past I have had spots of black algae in my pool. I have some darker looking algae on the step by my waterfall. It could just be...

Green Walls / Perplexed By Test Results - Help Please

I just assumed mine was dead algae, I killed a lot of it at once ... two times in a few weeks. I also used the "First Aid" product though, which seems to be a common theme as well. At some point after my CYA got to a decent level (from 0 to 30) which allowed me to keep my Chlorine high, and I...

Does anyone know what this is?

Read the bottle. I'm pretty sure this is one product that you don't have to worry about wait times with, although 15 minutes surely would not hurt. I've also read that you can't use too much of this product, as in it isn't possible, so if you use a full capful it will be fine. Also note that...

New to site: Don......Fighter of the Green pool.

I believe Dichlor will raise your CYA so be careful with that. This is why bleach is recommended, it doesn't negatively interfere with your other numbers. Cal-Hypo based shock will not add CYA, but does add Calcium increasing water hardness. You will need a FAS-DPD test kit. With this you...

Greyish Powder at Bottom of Pool

Last year I used to swear my Cal Hypo was not dissolving. After adding it, I would see big floating particles and it would seem to rest on the bottom of my pool and I needed to sweep it. Always thought I was crazy because it was supposed to dissolve fabulously according to the marketing on the...

New pool owner needs some help (have tried to go it alone until now)

I'm trying not to leech off the community here and figure this out on my own. Wrong approach. Trust me from someone who's tried to go it alone for way too long. The community here seems more than happy to assist. My recommendation, get ready to learn and be open to it. I will defer to the...

Hello, I'm new here. Trying to open up the pool. Help?

So, I now realize that a major issue I've had is improperly cleaned filters. Basically I didn't know what I was doing and thought spraying down was good enough. The nozzle tool I have (the one with curved end that kind of cradles the filter and sprays multiple streams) is what I've been using...

Hello, I'm new here. Trying to open up the pool. Help?

You have been so helpful. If I haven't said it already, Thank You. Your link and advice on filter cleaning was eye opening. I'm heading out to get a big trash can now and some TSP. My pressure issue is very likely due to not getting the filters clean enough with the hose and tool...

Hello, I'm new here. Trying to open up the pool. Help?

UPDATE: I've been cleaning out the filters, and got a good amount of the dead algae out by using my vacuum hose (just the hose, no vacuum head, but good enough). This morning, the water was again clear with little puddle areas of dead algae like before, but less of it. I kept the chlorine high...

Hello, I'm new here. Trying to open up the pool. Help?

Thanks, I am trying. I have kept the chlorine up so far, 5 at minimum but today I"m sure it was higher. Have to go check it now. I think my filter cartridges are going bad or just getting really clogged up. Two of them are brand new! These two seem to be collecting the brunt. There is a...

Hello, I'm new here. Trying to open up the pool. Help?

Thank you all for your input, very helpful. This is a great community of people coming together to help reach a common goal. Love it. So my test kit, I just added to my signature. I think one thing that is lacking is I can only measure free chlorine up to 5ppm. I'm guessing a higher-level...

Hello, I'm new here. Trying to open up the pool. Help?

Hello, I'm having a heck of a time opening up my pool. Could use some assistance from you experts. I assure you I have read a lot of the pool school articles. I feel like I am very close, and I'm hoping you can maybe confirm some of my assumptions. My #1 problem right now I think is that I...
