Need help to solve a mystery

Herman and folks, just wanted to report back. We identified the return line that is leaking by closing out the valve and also plugging in the returns. Leak has stopped but right now we have one return line working. It will need some major digging to get to the leak (most likely the T...

Need help to solve a mystery

Yes, good idea. I'll try that. The two remaining return pipes are used for 3 other returns in the pool, with one connected to 2 and 1 to 1 I believe. No spas. So I can test them in turn.

Need help to solve a mystery

Hi Herman, Thank you so much for the quick response. I've marked up the photo. - Red is the capped return pipe - Blue is the working return pipes - Green area is the suction pipes - Flexible pipe is the drain pipe connected to the spider valves. Yes, I agree that it should come from a...

Need help to solve a mystery

Dear Pool Experts, I've tearing my hair out for the past few days over this. I can use your collective wisdom here. Our inground pool has 2 skimmers, 1 main drain and 5 returns. The 2 returns on the steps merged back to one pipe. A few years ago because the pool contractor detected a leak...

Should I pump water out of my in-ground tarp pool cover during the fall / winder?

Folks -thanks for the advice. We've decided to just leave the leaking cover in there for the season. My thinking is that, if we don't keep on pumping the water, the water at the bottom should hold up the cover (the leak doesn't seem to a big one.) If we only pump moderately, we are now drawing...

Should I pump water out of my in-ground tarp pool cover during the fall / winder?

It is solid (tarp - not mesh). Yes it is probably torn somewhere. We do need a new one. If we leave the water in, then when it's pool opening time, it is very difficult to keep the dirty water from going into the pool. Anybody has any tricks to keep the dirty water from falling back into...

Should I pump water out of my in-ground tarp pool cover during the fall / winder?

Hi - It is from Yardandpool.com. It doesn't have a brand name. But it has 12 years of warranty! Maybe I should file a claim.

Should I pump water out of my in-ground tarp pool cover during the fall / winder?

Folks - I have been pumping water out of my inground pool tarp cover for several years during the fall for healthy reasons (we got tons of leaves and other stuff from the trees grown around the pool). The cover is starting to leak from the bottom as we are pumping water now. (the pump is...

    Violent pump turn-off

Hi John - Yes, I noticed that the skimmer baskets are sometimes blown out of place. So If I understand you correctly, there is a leak on the suction side. When the pump is on, air is drawn in. When the pump is turned off, the air expands and has to go somewhere, creating pressure, pushing out...

    Violent pump turn-off

It is about 25 psi, a lot higher than before when I had the old 1.0 pump. It was about 15 I think.

    Violent pump turn-off

Hi - As some of you commented, I might have gotten too powerful a pump. ( I recently replaced a broken Hayward 1.0 with a 1.5 super-pump) The plus is that it is cleaning the pool faster through the Kreepy Kauly. However, I noticed that every time I turn the pump off, a great deal of pressure...

Hawyard pump won't start (2 year old only)

Thanks James and Marty. Will probably go with the Expert line 1.5 hp super-pump 700. Will also ask them to try to raise it from the ground. Thanks again!!

Hawyard pump won't start (2 year old only)

I stand corrected. We checked again the motor was replaced about 4 yrs ago. We started to do pool opening and closing after that. I guess I lost track of the time. The pool company said the internet pumps did not come with warranty. He uses expert Line pump which has a better seal and 2...

Hawyard pump won't start (2 year old only)

Hi Mates: It took me a while (I am pretty mechanically challenged) but I took the motor out and found the culprit - corrosion. See photo. I assume it is safe to assume that that's cause of the failure. The motor is now sitting on a thin plastic platform and dirt, water, etc., could sipped...

Hawyard pump won't start (2 year old only)

Thanks for the response! I was able to spin the impeller on my last motor but this time it seemed to have nothing I can hold on to. I will try again tonight with a longer tool. But since it does not make any noise at all, I was told that it is likely to be dead (burnt somewhere inside)...

Hawyard pump won't start (2 year old only)

Hi Mates: We have a Hayward pump with 1 HP. It is only 2-3 yrs old. But it wouldn't start this season right after we opened the pool. I covered it well for the winter. I understand pumps/motors should last a lot longer. Also the circuit would trip every time when we try to power it on...

Finally, need to replace the skirt of kreepy krauly

After 4 years of faithful services, kreepy needs a new skirt. Old one is torn and peeling way. Got a replacement (non-OEM) from Amazon.com. Thinker than the original. Seems to be working fine so far. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007NQIJAC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Open green pool - Chlorine - Low CYA

By the Casey, I didn't follow Leslie's instructions. I was running out a solution and took advantage of their free testing only. ;) The environmental factors are the big trees around the pool, shredding many pounds of leaves, branches, etc. to the pool (even the evergreens shred!), the many...

Algae prevention with a solar cover

Hi - We installed solar covers last year and experienced the similar issues. No algae at the beginning of the season but slowly the covers have green areas (clear covers and it is more obvious). But it never got too bad. We just tried to sprinkle the chlorinated water to the covers as much as...

Open green pool - Chlorine - Low CYA

I am following the SLAM article. Since cya is zero, I have added cya but it takes time to take effect. In the meantime, I have to keep on adding chlorine constantly to keep the FC up. For example, yesterday my FC was 7 to 10. This morning when I wake up it is down to 1 with CC at 3. I have...

Open green pool - Chlorine - Low CYA

I used legging too from my wife and a sock. I think you can also pour cya to the skimmer too with the pump running but never tried it.

The cya was probably consumed by the decomposed leaves, bird excretion, dead bugs, etc., during winter by oxidation and nitrification, etc. ...
