    Pump skimmer basket water electrified

Sure enough. Leslie’s installer did a horrible job of connecting the wiring to my new variable speed pump. I took everything apart, replaced all the conduit and inspected everything and then simply found the pump connection was causing the problem. Thanks all.

    Pump skimmer basket water electrified

OK guys. Thank you so much for helping. First of all, the measure voltage in the water within the pump is around 5v. There are two copper bonding wires connected to the pump. One goes into the ground and the other seems like it was poked into the ground and left. The pad used to have a...

    Pump skimmer basket water electrified

I have never sensed any electricity in my pool water prior to today as I was cleaning the skimmer basket of the pump itself. The water inside the pump shocked me pretty good a few times. I read the thread that talked about water in the pool shocking as a result of the bonding wire not being...

    Does this pump sound normal?

Chris, It has not been moved recently. The unit is 8-10 years old and taking off the cover doesn't really make it clear whether it's the impeller or the motor. I see there are couplings connected. Is the next step to pull it out at the next water change? Are there bearing kits available?

    Does this pump sound normal?

It sounds like it's excessive, but I'm new to all this and the spa is new to me. What you are hearing is pump 1 (noisy to me) Then pump 2 on low speed, then on high speed (all sounds normal and functions fine,, Even when it sounds like it's just humming) Then pump 1 again...

Located leak and cut concrete. Does anyone have experience with the next step?

I got it. There was enough flex between the pvc and being able to pull the wall fitting into the stretch of the pool liner that it was pretty easy. On a side note for anyone with this type of leak, I should have tried putting epoxy inside the accessible gaps from the pool side. Now that I see...

Located leak and cut concrete. Does anyone have experience with the next step?

Or what about this, Coupling below 90, new 90, new pipe toward wall. Glue all that, then tighten up the threaded coupling less 1/4 turn. Then final step would be putting new return & threaded coupling (glued at this point) into the short pvc while performing a 1/4 turn as it comes together?

Located leak and cut concrete. Does anyone have experience with the next step?

When I removed the black spacer/nut I found the source of the leak. A few holes. I picked up a new SP1408, and have drained the pool down. Do you think it may be possible to unscrew the existing hayward return in the wall leaving all the existing pvc, and then screw in the new SP1408? I...

Replacing Diving board anchor bolts - Are SS wedge bolts a good option?

I believe that a heavy coat dielectric grease would prevent corrosion. It does on battery terminals and electrical connections, and considering the space is enclosed it would probably last for a long time.

Replacing Diving board anchor bolts - Are SS wedge bolts a good option?

That's a good point. Maybe it would be better to use galvanized, and cover the bolts with grease after?

Is a 1.65hp variable speed right for a 20x40? It seems small.

As a followup to this, the 1.65 is awesome. I run it 12 hours overnight at 800 rpm (120 watts), then 10 hours at 1600 rpms to generate chlorine, and then 2 hours every evening on high for the heck of it. My bill is 25% of what it used to be and all is well.

Replacing Diving board anchor bolts - Are SS wedge bolts a good option?

Does the same concern exist about the circuit exist if the entire base is also fiberglass? The only metal is the 3 bolts into the ground and the two that hold the board to the base. If it does, I'm thinking I can possibly weld a connection to one of the previous bolts, but that would require...

Replacing Diving board anchor bolts - Are SS wedge bolts a good option?

That's what I'm looking at. They just weld a bead down one side to keep it from turning, which a local shop would probably do for a few bucks.

Replacing Diving board anchor bolts - Are SS wedge bolts a good option?

Interesting. The funny thing is that they charge $250 for 3 6 inch bolts and a $35 tube of simpson strong tie epoxy.

Replacing Diving board anchor bolts - Are SS wedge bolts a good option?

Well... Surprisingly they just suggested using an epoxy kit to place new bolts. She said that the epoxy kits include instructions for bonding. However I'm not sure this really serves a purpose due to it being a fiberglass diving board. I have not found any published data on the pull out...

Replacing Diving board anchor bolts - Are SS wedge bolts a good option?

I'll call them. Nothing personal to the moderators, however I know that there is always a tendency to stay away from potential liability. Sometimes a logical solution exists anyway. It is hard to believe that everyone just repours the slab considering that epoxy bolts are sold by inyo.

Anyone else have any thoughts that need not represent the owner of the website?

Replacing Diving board anchor bolts - Are SS wedge bolts a good option?

My diving board anchor bolts are horribly rusted. I've found that my local fastenal has 1/2" anchor wedge bolts with a pull out strength of 4,400 pounds each. That seems sufficient, so what do you think about it as an option?

Is it ok to have GFCI at pool light box and not have a GFCI breaker?

You were right... The gfci just wasn't being powered. All is well now. Thanks!

Is it ok to have GFCI at pool light box and not have a GFCI breaker?

Ok. Thanks. Is it normal to have the GFCI only provided power when the light switch is flipped?

Is it ok to have GFCI at pool light box and not have a GFCI breaker?

My light does not work, so I've begun the process of troubleshooting. I believe the gfci was incorrectly wired because my GFCI tester says OPEN HOT. But it got me thinking...

    20x40 w/ 1.5hp super pump... Should I go VS?

If I went two a two speed, I'd still wonder how I can know that low speed will actually skim well. My main reason for thinking the Leslie pump > than an inyo replacement motor was the warranty. 5 yrs vs Inyo's 1.5 yrs. It looks like this is the motor I could put in... A.O. Smith 1.5 HP Full...

    20x40 w/ 1.5hp super pump... Should I go VS?

Hey guys. There is nothing wrong with my 1.5hp Super Pump, however guy at Leslies was selling me on the benefits of switching over to a 1.5hp variable speed. My thinking here is that I can run the thing 20-24 hours a day at the low setting to skim the pool all day long and keep it cleaner...

    Marlig's fix a leak questions

I've got an inch per day leak in my 20x40 vinyl pool. Last year I paid a contractor $800 to find and repair what was thought to be the only leak. Then I found that I must have more leaks as I continued to lose water. I'm going to give the fix-a-leak a try. Should I run pipes from the...
