Opening a pool w/ high pollen in the air

Testing at 12:30 today - in full sun my CL dropped only 1 over 6 hours and my CC is now back to .5. I really think its the smoke at night that’s throwing off my readings.

Opening a pool w/ high pollen in the air

Something hit me this morning when I tested my SLAM. Yesterday afternoon when I tested my CCs were at .5. At 10:30 when I tested they were at 1. This morning the pool stunk and my CC is 2.5. As I was fantasizing a backhoe filling my pool w/ 10 dump trucks of dirt it occured to me that it...

Opening a pool w/ high pollen in the air

About the only thing I didn’t do was unscrew the pool light so the water could get behind it. That’s next on the list, though I was hoping to avoid it this year.

Opening a pool w/ high pollen in the air

I give up. I’ve had wind gusts of 25 mph dumping forest garbage into my pool all day long and to this very hour. I’ve cleaned out my skimmer socks 4 times, 2 skimmers each. Each time they socks were caked with forest garbage and pollen. My robot has been patrolling the bottom of the pool all...

Chlorine 22 CYA 45 (midway between the 50 and 40 in the tube) pH 7.2 (before the SLAM) TA 90 CH 245 Borates 30-40 (test strip - not very precise)

Opening a pool w/ high pollen in the air

Hi Gang, Its seems in in a quandry. My pool passes OCLT and is crystal clear, however I have persistent 1ppm CC. I break it during the day w/ the sun on the pool, but overnight it comes back. I don’t lose any chlorine overnight. Could it be the high winds and pollen blasting my pool all day...

    Possible bad salt cell??

    Possible bad salt cell??

I find it interesting that your Taylor kit registered so high. Mine is also registering very high, in stark contrast to what my board is telling me. My cell was having a hard time keeping up so I replaced it - the new T15 is showing the same salt level as the old one (but i'm getting good...

    Hayward Aquarite giving me ajada

Is it possible that my water temperature is in some way modifying what the board is displaying? My pool gets full sun and often sits around 87-93 degrees during the afternoon/early evening when my pump is running.

    Hayward Aquarite giving me ajada

That's interesting - so when you put the new salt cell in that registered what the Taylor test read - did you have to drain the pool to dilute the salt? In my case if the salt cell goes bad down the line and the new cell reads accurately, I'll need to drain 20-25% of my water to get the salt down.

    Hayward Aquarite giving me ajada

Thanks again !!! I’ll let it run more while I’m at work and drop a bag or two in when I get home. Each bag nets me about 200 ppm for my pool size.

    Hayward Aquarite giving me ajada

Thanks for the quick reply !!! 600-1000ppm more salt in my pool is safe? That would put my ‘real’ salt level up around 4300-4500 ppm.

    Hayward Aquarite giving me ajada

My pool is 3.5 years old. I noticed my pool seemed to be having problems keeping the chlorine up in the pool. I was running my generator at 90 percent and was still seeing my levels slowly drop. To make sure it wasn’t something in my pool, I did a OCLT (overnight chlorine loss test) and...

Acsorbic Acid Treatment - Opening Pool

I am on a well, and its been filled w/ well water. I only started having the iron problems when I was dealing w/ a mustard algae issue last year; necessitating high CL. My pH drifted up to 7.6-7.8 and I started seeing my stairs turn tan. I have some vitamin 'C' tablets on order so I can hold...

Acsorbic Acid Treatment - Opening Pool

Hello, So I've been reading this thread: https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/2129-Ascorbic-Treatment-to-rid-Pool-of-metal-stains It states in there not to shock your pool for a couple weeks. Is there some flavor of this treatment I can use when I'm OPENING my pool? I figure I probably...

    Snakes and Skimmers

I have a garter snake that has figured out how to run around my whole pool from behind. My steps have these little weep holes in a channel where the steps butt up against the concrete. The little stinker got in the channel and can now circle the entire pool. I find him sticking his head out by...

    Low Chlorine after algaecide

True, I'm always in the low to mid 200s. And w/ the backwashing and adding fresh, I never really climb where I need to worry. That's just me though. I find the powder shock to be a heaven sent; I can't imagine all the gallons of bleach I'd need to have on hand otherwise.

This is great powder shock w/o the CYA: http://www.intheswim.com/p/super-pool-shock#pdp-tab3 "Our non-stabilized formula is ideal for shocking."

    Light Green Pool

Depends on your well and how far down you are. I'm from Jackson, but my well is down over 300'. My water tests out better than Poland Spring according to the DEP test I got when I closed. Jackson does have a number of older homes on significantly more shallow wells to the tune of 50-125'. It...

So, what exactly should I be doing?

So this weekend I discovered a weird dynamic with my pool. With my jets oriented per the above post, my pool spins counter clockwise in the deep end and clockwise in the shallow end. I effectively have a figure 8 pattern in my pool with the middle where it slopes down to the deep end being a...

Is there such thing as a "little" algae? :)

I prefer to keep my CYA at 70; in the off chance i have to SLAM running the chlorine needed at CYA 80 is a real bear. And as I've recently discovered, I have to drain a LOT of water to get it from 80 down to 70.

So, what exactly should I be doing?

FWIW I also decided to point my returns straight out and slightly down. I found another post by ChemGeek on the poolandspa forum where he said for rectangular pools with a floor drain, most point their returns straight out if they have multiples. Since I have 6 plus the 4 in the swimouts, I...

So, what exactly should I be doing?

So yesterday I got home and ran through my chlorine test. My TC dropped for 12 to 10. And my CC's registered for the first time all summer at .5 So, off to SLAM we go for round 3 this summer. I'm sure this one will be short lived at least. Worked on the pool for 4 hours last night, found...

    Unbeatable mustard algae

I put "Yellow Treat" in my pool last year on the advice of the pool store. I couldn't hold chlorine either, but I certainly can now. Took a lot of shock though.

    Unbeatable mustard algae

Can't you get rid of the bromine w/ excessive chlorine over a period of time? Else anybody who used a yellow treatment would be irreparably harmed? I know bromine creates a huge chlorine demand, but eventually you get past that point.
