Replacing SP1023 Return Gasket on Fiberglass Pool Steps?

I am replacing my vinyl liner and ordering all new gaskets and face plates. Although not a part of the liner, the black rubber gaskets on my fiberglass pool stairs always run black residue, as they are deteriorating. I made the mistake of not knowing how the SP1023 returns are installed. It...

Measuring for a replacement vinyl liner

I didn't have great before pictures. The pic above shows some spots where the vermiculite lost all bond, and you could just sweep it out. Those 1 ft shades areas are a solid 1-1.5in deep. The shallow end had a lot of lumps you could feel and see.

Measuring for a replacement vinyl liner

I have a 16x32 rectangle with fiberglass steps. It's a pretty standard pool shape but there are certainly some dimensions that I am concerned with getting incorrect and adversely affecting the install of the new liner. I want to order a liner online. Considering...

Anyone Rebuilt a Hayward SWG T-Cell?

I have access to a physically damaged T-cell-15 where the housing needs replacing but the cell it self has very little use. I also have an old cell with good housing. Anyone know how these cells are rebuilt? I know people are doing it because there are vendors selling rebuilt cells.

Leak and Drain; Multiple Large Wrinkles in Vinyl. Help!

I've patched the hole and started the refill. I have a 2 in wrinkle going all the way across the bottom the pool now as well. Is the best course of action to refill the pool all the way before trying to straighten out the wrinkles? I can't seem to do anything with them by hand.

Leak and Drain; Multiple Large Wrinkles in Vinyl. Help!

I appreciate the advice everyone. The patch kit was 2 day shipped from Amazon so I was able to start the patching. I ran into a snag trying to slap one big patch over it. Being in the corner where it's suspended, any attempts to remove air bubbles made the gash spread out. I had to do little...

Leak and Drain; Multiple Large Wrinkles in Vinyl. Help!

One day last week I cleaned my pool with the brush and I must have created a tear because the next morning, the pool was 50% down. I ran out assuming my pool cleaner had jumped out of the pool or something, but saw a 6" tear in the bottom corner on the shallow end. I assume that the brush tore...

Swapping cord with burnt connector on Hayward T-Cell

I can take a full plug and cord off an older unit and solder it into the cell. It's not hard to pop off the plastic on the cell and see where the wiring starts. I should be able to solder the new cord in there where I don't have to worry about being water tight. The plug, as-is, is definitely...

    Extend AquaRite T-Cell Cable

Looking at the image above of the wiring - Are the whites (neutral) and the Blacks (hot) directional or are the interchangeable? I wouldn't want to wire them backwards. I wouldn't think it would matter but when you take the cover off the T-cell, you can see how they each go into a separate...

Thinking about switching to a SWC system

Another vote for converting and going with the Hayward AQR15 and T-Cell-15 cell. I went full DIY and got a used controller ($180-$250) and used but working cell ($75-$120) off ebay. Add $50 for flow switch and plumbing and $400 can get you running. I am very frugal and I would NEVER go back...

Swapping cord with burnt connector on Hayward T-Cell

Thanks for the responces - I ended up offering the guy $55 shipped for this ebay listing , and getting it. I had used the TFP search tool before I got responses and read about splicing a new connector - which I could take off one of my old cells. The item I purchased was manufactured at the...

Swapping cord with burnt connector on Hayward T-Cell

I was looking at buying this used cell listed as Not working, For parts. It's my impression that this could be caused by a bad connection with the board, a wiring with the board, lightening, or bad connection in the cell (maybe?). If I know MY board is good, then maybe it was only an issue...

Cleaned sand filter now having big problems

What still throws me for a loop is that RINSE pumps water out freely (concentrated with sand however) and FILTER does not. The only difference according to the STICKY w/ illustrations is that RINSE goes out WASTE and FILTER goes to DISCHARGE. Why the disparity?

Cleaned sand filter now having big problems

This certainly could be the case. I will take all of the above advise and start as soon as I get home! I as going to buy a new multi-port and get it expedited just in case, but nobody seems to suggest that it is part of the problem.

Cleaned sand filter now having big problems

I do have a wet vac - if I open it back up, are you suggesting to suck out all the sand to inspect the pipe and laterals? or just suck out the down pipe?

Cleaned sand filter now having big problems

I just overhauled my plumbing with a new VSP and SWG. I re-used the sand filter but did the deep clean from the stickied thread. Now I cannot get circulation with the various combinations. Here are the multi-port setting with results: Filter: Pump will not prime, little to no flow returning...

Advice on complete equipment change out and replumb

Room around the pump is important. Especially if it's touching where the vibrations can wear on the glued connections. Also, be careful with putting a lot of tight 90deg bends. You don't want to only have 3 or 4 inches before a bend b/c the water doesn't have time to become laminar, you should...

    Cheap SWG Solutions for DIY?

Great information about finding the switch point of the flow switch - I will test around on my system. It'd be nice if it was a little lower rpm, but I suppose there is a reason. I suppose they want enough flow to prevent heat damage on the cell?

I just bought the Hayward SP2302VSP

Great idea - I actually have some spare timbers and corrugated roofing sheets - I will definitely do this. Okay - so this sounds like a precaution for moisture getting in the electronics - I will implement this as well! I was wondering how I should combine the programming with the mechanical...

I just bought the Hayward SP2302VSP

For replacing my burnt up 1.5 Super pump, I decided to go Variable Speed for my basic 20K in-ground. It was between the Hayward SP2302VSP and the Pentair 432001 both equally priced at $640. I read reviews, articles, and forums. It's hard to get a real comparison of the two so I found Energy...

    Cheap SWG Solutions for DIY?

Thanks for the response - I went on ebay and found a used controller Aqua Rite controller for $185+$25 shipping. The seller got it at an estate sell and was told it was working but is offering a hassel free return if it doesn't. I also negotiated the price down to $185 delivered. So I hope to...

    Cheap SWG Solutions for DIY?

I am looking for an alternative to jug dumping for convenience and going out of town for extended periods of time. However, I am trying to do this for under $500 but the cheaper the better. I've done just a touch of research and here is what I have seen: This guy just put DC power to a cell...

    Help Choosing Best Equipment Combination

Thanks - My rates are on the high end at $0.15-$0.16 per kW-hr. Inefficiency is really a pet peeve of mine, b/c I'm cheap and over analyze things. I think I will definitely get the VSP, likely a Hayward SP2302VSP or the Pentair 342001 (both around $650). I'll try to continue my pump research...
