Second time this has happened, male threaded part on end of filter came off and stuck in tub

Nope. Our filters don't have the individual caps and sit in tubes so to speak. They're just behind a big panel with a grate on it and skimmer bag behind it so that only comes off when changing or cleaning filters. Chemicals go in the middle of the tub.

Second time this has happened, male threaded part on end of filter came off and stuck in tub

Finally got the *&^%$#@! thing out, clean set went in with a wrap of teflon tape on them and stopped turning the second it got even remotely snug but I'll get some silicone o-ring lube, I didn't know if that would be an issue and throw off water chemistry or have an impact that would cause foam...

Second time this has happened, male threaded part on end of filter came off and stuck in tub

I was actually contemplating a single wrap of teflon tape on those threads before we put the next set in.

Second time this has happened, male threaded part on end of filter came off and stuck in tub

Hi all, Jacuzzi J-385 here. 2 large screw in filters. One filter "receptacle" has a metal grate in it, the other just goes down into the bottom. When going to remove the filters tonite, even tho we do NOT screw them in super tight, the threaded part of the filter that sticks out, came off and is...

Question on TA, Dichlor and CYA

So nothing as far as alkalinity then? Should I worry about getting that back down to 50 from 75? I didn't plan to change my water any time soon due to other projects we need to finish up first

Question on TA, Dichlor and CYA

Hi there, We have a 500 gallon J-385 tub. Filled in November and it's just the two of us in it so we generally don't change the water more than about every 8 months. We use the dichlor then bleach method. I do a full test once a week and shock on that day (today, since we are never in on...

Thinking of creating a DIY WiFi enabled PID controlled hot tub control system - Anybody wanna help?

I would love to know more about this too for my J-385. Did you ever hear back from him? I don't know if he's still a member here, I couldn't @Tag him

Question on using the tub after weekly shock

Decided to post a question I've been wondering about for a while. We have a tub that we use 20 to 30 minutes at a time, a few times a week, mostly to relax after dinner. Just 2 people so not a lot of bather load (500'ish gallon tub). I'm pretty type-A about my water chemistry and we use the...

    Hot tub filter cleaning question

thanks for that info! I happen to have a 3# tub of oxi clean sitting around that I'll never use (someone gave it to me ages ago to use for one thing). Did I miss it in your post, I'm wondering how much to put in per gallon and how long you leave filters soak? I have moderately hard water (well)...

    Hot tub filter cleaning question

Thanks for that info! I didn't realize ahh-some made filter cleaner, I'll check that out. I use their biofilm cleaner so I'm with you, it must work pretty well! Good to know that the sprayers are kind of gimicky, I'll stick with the hose (no pressure washer here... yet, we were just talking...

    Hot tub filter cleaning question

Hi there, I have been using the leisure time 5 minute filter cleaner when we swap filters every 3 months or so. Just the 2 of us usually in the tub, I'm rigorous about testing, no leaves/debris 99.9% of the time, we used to run primary filtration 24 hours and secondary 10 minutes every 6 hours...

Can't get pH down, how much do I need to worry about it?

ok thanks. I just wasn't sure if long term, being too far off the 7.6 number would be an issue. It's weird because at our old house (1/4 mile down the road, also on a well. albeit a different one), the pH came into the expected range with a TA of 50. Oh well.

Can't get pH down, how much do I need to worry about it?

Hi there, Started up the hot tub after it had been drained for a year (moved it from old house to new, other things took priority). Filled, ran ahhsome through it and drained twice so we know all is good. I use the method here with dichlor -> bleach. My garden hose water meter wasn't working...

Why would I have used washing soda in the past?

huh, reading the log, started at TA of 80, after the calcium boost (3oz) to take CH from 80 to 110 but the pH over 8.0, the 5oz MA plummeted the pH to under 7 but adding the washing soda got it to 7.8 and the TA before I started dialing it in read 90 so it didn't seem to do TOO much to the TA.

Why would I have used washing soda in the past?

Hi there, After a few years of not using it and moving (tub was drained etc) we are firing it back up now that we were able to source the 60a spa panel and breaker we needed for the outside disconnect. Filled it, ran ahhsome, draining now, then willl refill and start the balancing. I'm...

oh!!!! huh thanks for clearing that up for me!

Does chloride in tap water have impact on hot tub water testing (chem geek?)

Maybe I misread something in the report. It says "reporting limit 5.0 mg/l" and the result is 11. In rethinking this, maybe they meant the reporting limit as 5.0 is the most they can detect, but then 11 as a result doesn't fit. I did see the 250 limit when I did a quick search so I wasn't too...

Does chloride in tap water have impact on hot tub water testing (chem geek?)

Random question... I was looking at a test report from our water sample from back in 2004 that was taken just to see how our well water was. For chloride, the max level per EPA Method 325.3 is 5.0 mg/l. Our water came back with a result of 11 (my parents right up the road on another well were...

    Ahh-some causing issues?

I don't know if I have the patience to wait the time it takes to get to +10ish degrees at 4 or 5 degrees per hour but I know if we go away or something, the temp definitely should be dialed back. We're at 11.4 CYA based on the amount of dichlor added so far. Last nite at 9:45pm we tested after...

    Ahh-some causing issues?

Ok I didn't realize that 25% target number was for soaks in the 90s. I personally like it at 99 but my husband thinks it's "tepid and not a HOT tub" at that. In this case, CYA is low since it's a fresh fill so right now only 4.8 CYA. I'll take it up again tonite - we haven't been in but it needs...

    Ahh-some causing issues?

Higher than expected FC loss - once and for all. Brand new water in the tub, TA set to 50, pH at 7.8, CH at 120, 50ppm Borates, temperature at 101F No one has been in the tub since it was filled. Cleaned thoroughly with ahh-some before draining. Yesterday at 12 noon eastern, FC = 2.2, today...

    Ahh-some causing issues?

We've never had 25% daily loss in this tub (we've had it almost a year). It's always been 40% no matter if we have UV running or not. We don't want to have to wait for it to warm up if we go in last minute and we don't always just go in say after dinner where you'd bump it up before dinner. - -...

    Ahh-some causing issues?

I run the circ pump 24/7 and we keep the temp at 101 (will go up to 102 when it gets really cold)
  24. W

    Ahh-some causing issues?

:slidehalo: Now to figure out why we use more FC than expected (40% / day vs what should be 25% - ClearRay UV is disconnected). That's another topic. Going to have to start testing after I put Bleach or Dichlor in vs just assuming it's raising it as much as it says it is.

    Ahh-some causing issues?

Well, we really don't get a lot of "gunk" in it. I'm ultra picky about the numbers and sanitizer levels, we rinse before going in as much as we can, float a scum bug, rinse filters every week, change every 4 and generally it's only us in there so my theory is that since we didn't get a lot of...

    Ahh-some causing issues?

LOL! It would be a good way to screw with me I suppose. Let's make sure none of my local friends get wind of that idea. Aerated a cycle and no foam! pH went up to over 8.0 (entirely expected) and TA and CH was the same, as it should be. Put in 2oz of MA and aerated, the TA is 80 (should have...

    Ahh-some causing issues?

Ok refill is done. Interestingly, my water meter that I put on the hose both yesterday and today shows 433 gallons and change where the book says it's 500 gallons to use for chemical adds. Odd, because I thought it would be greater than 500 gallons since sometimes the FC doesn't go up as high as...

    Ahh-some causing issues?

Certainly not a dumb question, I was starting to wonder the same thing so I double checked the label this morning and it's definitely the right stuff. My original 2oz tub of ahh-some said 1tsp / 100 gallons and we have a 500 gallon tub. When I bought the new stuff through Amazon 6oz tub, I saw...
