Normal frequency of adding water to the pool?

Okay-- we got a guy out here -- and if you're in Jax, Fl this guy was awesome-- Nick at 904-655-3980-- and he scuba'd all around the pool and found it was our first two steps that had hairline cracks. He patched them for now and to be safe we are just not using the steps. He said it should...

Normal frequency of adding water to the pool?

Yes, I did the bucket test. Lastnight, at 10pm, my husband put a piece of tape at water level in the deep end. Today at 11am, it is almost 1/2" below that tape line. :( I am panicking a bit... I have no idea how much a leak detection + fix will cost, but we live paycheck to paycheck and...

Normal frequency of adding water to the pool?

This is our 3rd summer as pool owners-- went trouble free the 2nd summer. We had to replace our pool motor in April 2016-- it just died one day. (Took to pinch a penny, they tested it-- gave us a replacement motor and told us how to install-- we did, seems to have been working just fine)...

    SLAMing mustard algae

Started SLAMing lastnight, our mustard algae situation never seems to resolve for more than a few weeks... I have done this before... I am confused. We brushed 2x yesterday. Left pump on 24/7. Woke up-- LONG ring of yellow in the shallow end---- like a 10' curve of yellow streak! Tested-- only...

CYA of 25 or so-- or is it?

Success!!! I kept both solutions and did the tests about 10x each to be really sure. It was really hard to get the dot to disappear with the 50ppm stuff... after all the tests it seems like my thing is off by 10ppm... so if I kept going til the dot disappeared and then subtracted 10ppm, that...

CYA of 25 or so-- or is it?

Mike sent me CYA for 2 tests-- it just came, I just did one... (Thank you SO much!) It just came and I tested right away-- it's even more clear than the other tests! The other ones were reading JUSt at 30 or maybe a little lower (but it stops at 30)... but this one was like looking straight...

CYA of 25 or so-- or is it?

This is really weird, guys... Here are my #s today (lastnight we just added 1 qt of chlorine).... FC= 9 CC= 0 Alk= 75 Cal= 200 pH= 7.6 CYA= 25 Exactly the same... so... is my CYA actually 25??????? And really-- even in the shade I can still see that black dot. Is there any chance my CYA...

Main drain is capped off--- how to re-plumb???

FC= 9 CC= 0 pH= 7.6 Alk=75 Calc=200 CYA- 30 That makes a lot of sense, TomBorg! So--- what kind of plastic and how do I get it to stay??? Thanks! - - - Updated - - - FC is 9 bc we have been keeping it a bit higher to keep yellow out

Main drain is capped off--- how to re-plumb???

Well, we have had the algae problem since we moved in 13 mos ago. The pool was re-lined and filled and no chlorine added for 20 days of sitting empty! Ugh. And we SLAMd and SLAMd and SLAMd and it would go away but always comes back--even after passing the OCLT test each time. I brush the pool...

CYA of 25 or so-- or is it?

So--- last summer my CYA was 100 bc we were new pool owners and used pucks all summer and found TFP in September... . Now CYA is 25...? I mean-- we did let a little water out of the pool last fall and got it down to about 60 before winter-- and we are in North Florida (sunny)--but isnt that a...

Main drain is capped off--- how to re-plumb???

We bought this house a year ago and even tho the main drain is capped off and not in use-- it passed inspection bc apparently as long as the skimmer is working hey don't have to have the main drain operating. Frustrating! I am pretty sure this is why we can't get rid of mustard algae no matter...

Mustard Algae keeps creeping back... even at 0 CC...

I know-- but inexpensive is all relative... I'll look into it, but we basically live paycheck to paycheck. Thanks!!!! Till then we'll... tread water?...lol--- and SLAM when needed. - - - Updated - - - well-- no one would have bought the house like that-- it's why they bought it and flipped...

Mustard Algae keeps creeping back... even at 0 CC...

Haha! Well, from what the home inspector told us, the main drain could work but by the pump it's capped off... so a plumber (?) would need to come re-plumb it and the inspector said the owner was just trying to save $$ so they did it this way. We are trying to save up so it can be functional...

Mustard Algae keeps creeping back... even at 0 CC...

Yes-- followed the article and was guided through the process on here in Oct each day by some nice posters! :) Passed OCLT test many times after each SLAM. Not sure how to take lights off and ladder... how can I do that safely? Right now the water is way too cold to get in. When I made my...

Been doing TFP since October (only owned this house 8 mos)... anyway-- we SLAMd and SLAMd and got rid of our mustard algae, came back again, we SLAMd again... it's like after we SLAM it and pass the overnight test a month later it's back even tho we keep up our levels... what's the deal? For...

SLAMed, stayed on it, pH rises quickly and now it's cloudy

Yep-- I put above I passed the OCLT many nights ina row. No tablets. Just 10.5% chlorine and muriatic acid is all that's gone in the last 26 days.

SLAMed, stayed on it, pH rises quickly and now it's cloudy

Nope-- none. Water is too cold to swim and there are no waterfalls-- pool is even fenced in, nothing really gets in except pine needles! It was mustard algae. I don't know... we passed the overnight test 3x in a row-- I followed SLAMing to a tee on here and was posting here regularly and got...

SLAMed, stayed on it, pH rises quickly and now it's cloudy

Quick summary: Just started TFPC on Oct 4. SLAMed for a week or so-- pool was greenish when we began--- pool was looking sparkling by Oct 10 and down to 0 CC by Oct 20, good levels, etc. Well, now it is Oct 30. Yesterday we noticed a faint cloudiness-- stll can see to the bottom easily, but...

    My CC iS ZERO

Please forgive me if I missed this, I really did try to find the answer first... After a very long SLAM to convert from using tablets to the BBB method, for the first time today, my CC is 0.0. Don't I wants to between .2 and .5 or is zero okay? Ph is 7.5 Fc is 7.2 Cc is 0 (I did it twice)...

Where are you finding 16 oz bottles? On the TFtest kits site, I found 2 oz of 871 and 8 oz of CYA but that's the biggest I could find.

Pump ran all night lastnight-- from 7pm-9am Tested before sun hit the water, which happens around 9:15-9:30ish... So testing daily like that--- how often are you ordering refills? Just trying to get an idea of how often I'll be ordering refills... thanks :)

    Just starting BBB method...

Gah. Well, we passed the overnight test from Fri-Sat morning. I'll try another tonight, tho. Just took a sample at 7:15pm, already dusk here. This time I got: FC= 19 CC= .5 I did wait a minute (4 y/o needed me) until putting in the 5 drops of 003 at 4:45... I wonder if that affected it. Is...

    Just starting BBB method...

Just tested water from the hose--- pH= 8.0 FC= 1.6 CC= O Alk= 130 (explains why refilling made ours rise) Calcium= 180 (Didnt test CYA- do I need to?) We sure lost a lot of FC today... should I do another overnight test?
  28. Z

    Just starting BBB method...

Hmmm... just tested now, 4:45pm, so about 27 hours later... the FC is now 18.5 and the CC is 1.0... it was MOSTLY clear after 1 drop, but I needed to add the 2nd drop to make it truly clear. I am still doing a 10ml sample so I don't use too many drops. Should I try with a 25ml sample? Thanks...

Tested everythign except pH at 1:30pm... FC= 24 (lost 1.0 since 8am) CC= .5 Alk= 100 (is this weird that it went up? It was previously 80-- either I tested wrong or tap water from hose added it?) Calcium= 180 CYA= 60

    Just starting BBB method...

Just tested at 8am!!! So 13 hours went by and guess what?!?! NO LOSS! FC= 25 CC= .5 So-- I passed the OCLT test, right? Water is crystal clear, CC is .5, and didn't even lose ANY FC in 13 hrs overnight! Now what? JUst let it drift down to FC of 9? When do I test again for pH, Alk, etc...
