Letro Legend Cleaner. About 10 years old. Not too pretty and it kind of wobbles along, but it worked fairly well. Booster Pump failed last year so I pulled the whole works out and it's been in a box ever since. I now have a suction-type cleaner, so have no use for this.
Estimated age of...
I'll take all the help I can get, so keep the advise coming. I'm having much better luck with the green algae this year, in part due to the fine Pool School and the Pool Calculator.
The dead algae thing really drove me crazy last year until I changed out the multi valve in favor of a simple...
1. Instructions say to use CPVC glue. OK. Do I use the purple primer as well?
2. Must I use the inlet as the "inlet" ?? or can it flow both ways? Another thread talks about reversing the cleaner line for various types of cleaners (pressure and suction). I'd like to try that, so I have a...
After observing my setup for quite awhile, my non-expert guess is that after pump shutoff, the water in the filter slowly drains back thru the pump and into the pool. When this happens, some of the DE falls off the grids. Then when you start it back up some of the DE flows thru those "holes"...
As I plumb the new pad...just a thought.
Does a coupling or tee exist that you could screw in a pressure gauge for evaluation or troubleshooting? Would it be desirable to have some of these in various places on the pad?
You could make one by using a tee and a slip/thread bushing, but...
I'll be anxiously awaiting the verdict on this.
I also have a cleaner line which I'm trying to plumb on my equipment pad and want maximum flexibility for future cleaners.
I had seriously considered that, but due to the freezing temperatures here, I will be building an enclosure to sit on top of the 4x4 frame. If the pipes were outside I'd have to somehow insulate them. I don't close the pool here and the only trouble in the winter is cracked pipes on the pad...
(To the gentleman that asked about the 3x3 pad, I just don't have enough experience to comment on that. I am getting lots of help here, so you might try to start a new thread and post some photos of your situation. Welcome to the forum. Best of luck.)
Here's the latest...I've got to make...
OK, great. I have two eyeball vents.
A question on Jandy valves. For 2 inch pipe, should I get the 1 1/2-2 or the 2-2 1/2 ?? I would guess the bigger valve for a more straight-thru shot...
Think I'll answer my own question, having just spent some more time on Hydraulics 101.
It looks like 2 inch pipe will work fine for everything, so I'll plan on that. I don't really have a very complex system, and if I need to, I can always add a ball valve for more resistance.
Actually, I'm clear on why we need 2 inch pipe - - better flow with less resistance. I don't understand why it's better to go one size down for the returns, or if it applies in this case.
Well, hello again.
I started this thread a year ago but had to drop the project due to unforseen issues. But now I'm back and have the pad built (3x8 feet) and at the proper elevation (top water mark of the pool will be at the inlet pipe to the motor).
I've been doing a lot of searching...
OK, so after you hit "Img", you just can't click over the cursor, you have to hit the space bar and make a bunch of room, then right click and paste the URL. Think I got it now.
So far, so good. Now i'm going to try to paste some bigger photos....

OK, so just to review... (I'm barely computer literate)
I set up an account like I have on "yfrog" or whatever, then I click on the photo and copy the URL...
Then I go to TFP forum and click "code" and then paste the...
Here's my latest update on this DE problem...
I am getting much better results with the new valve. But, I still get a significant amount of DE into the pool on startup.
The Pentair manual says that you will get a little. I think the whole problem is caused by poorly designed and built pool...
Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
I was getting ready to give an update...just recently took out the old multivalve and installed a slide valve, and I completely disassembled the filter and inspected it. The filter was perfect. I believe the whole system is working fine now, but give me a few days...
OK that's good news. I'll make it as big as I can...leaning towards 3x8 or 4x8.
I'll have some say in where the pipes come up. Four pipes: skimmer, bottom drain, pool return, cleaner. Do you have a favorite way of routing them?
Also, I guess the heater should be farthest away from the...
OK, got the elevation thing figured out. Thanks for the advise. On to another issue...
How big does the pad have to be?
I've got a small spot near the house (and near electricity, gas, pool pipes). I will have 2 pumps, filter, chlorine feeder for now. Later I want to have enough room to...
