    Buying a pump today

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to finalize this thread and let whomever may be interested know what I ended up doing. I bought a "Pentair SuperFlo Variable Speed Pump 342001". The 2 speed pumps didn't seem to be much less expensive than this VS one, and a variable speed presented more options...

    Buying a pump today

My pump sounds craazyy! no time to lose, gotta get something or risk hearing loss. Currently a Hayward Super 2 1.5hp Single Speed is there. Given that the pump is about 7-10 years old I figured I'd replace the whole pump. Should i replace it with a hayward Super 2 Dual Speed or something...

Hawyward 1500 , RS1500 two speed pump replacement

I'll probably go with the dual speed motor replacement: A.O. Smith 1-1/2 HP Round Flange Dual Speed Full Rate Motor (STS1152R) - INYOPools.com My impression was dual speed motor replacement was the most long term economical option.

Hawyward 1500 , RS1500 two speed pump replacement

Hi All! Thank goodness for this sight. It's helped me a lot in the past and I wanted to see if I could get some more advice now that i'm having another pool issue. My pool pump stopped working :(. I think it's the start run capacitor as it was making a buzz like it was going to work and then...

Solid pool cover and checking chemical balances

Hi Everyone, I've been trying to find info on checking pool chemical balances with a solid cover on in Texas weather. I suppose I can start checking once a week and see how things change, but i thought i'd check and see if there's any opinions here on checking chemical levels in southern...

    Solar Breeze NX Kickstarter/Pre-Order

I've had the solar breeze for a little over a year. It's pretty cool. You don't have to deal with a ton of bugs sitting around in the pool when you want to get in. The surface is always clean, and you don't have to clean the pump filter as often. According to their pump run time...

Best pool cover type for Texas?

Hi Everyone, I was looking into getting a pool cover. My area has a lot of leaves and debri that blow into the pool, especially around fall, and so it's a lot of work to maintain the pool when it's not being used. Does anyone have a suggestion on the best pool cover type to get for Texas? I...

    pool cover questions

Hello Experts! I've owned a pool for nearly a year now, and come fall the pool was littered with leaves. Seems like it would be easier to get a cover rather then keep cleaning these leaves out (troublefreepool!). As such I was in the market for a pool cover. A safety cover would be nice as...

    Pool coping needing repairs

Thanks. Maybe I'll look into trying it then. Doesn't sound too tough. To be honest I don't really like the sharp rock around the pool. Would rather have something with a rounder edge, but probably not worth the hassle/cost of replacing every stone.

Crack in pool stairs... do i need to fix it?

Thanks for responding. Nope, I haven't noticed any water loss.

    Pool coping needing repairs

Sorry i'm pretty new to this pool stuff... but i can definitely tell the caulking area between the coping and the pool deck needs repairs. That sounds rather easy... just yank out the old stuff, pour sand in it, and put caulk in. Maybe put sand on top of the caulk or use a special kind of...

Crack in pool stairs... do i need to fix it?

Hey Guys! While draining the pool (CYA is too high) i noticed a crack in one of the stairs. Do I need to fix this crack? And if so, what's the best procedure? (also... the pool walls look kinda blotchy. Do I need to do an acid wash or just live with it is the best way?) Thanks for your...

Return Jets - Point each one which direction?

As far as the wind, assuming you're looking at the picture as UP means north, then it's blowing from the North east. This seems good since it's mostly toward the skimmer, but due to the pool ledge stuff still accumulates where the wind gets blocked by the ledge. I'm going to try orienting the...

Return Jets - Point each one which direction?

This question probably has been asked a bunch of times, but i keep getting confused going over various posts, and articles about how to orient them. Perhaps it mostly depends on each individual pool and the equipment you have so I'll just post a drawing of mine, and where the return jets are...

CYA test still showing high after draining 70% of the pool

My test kit is the Taylor K-2006C. I mostly did a guess that since the CYA was at ~130 (according to the pool supply store), i'd probably need to replace more then 50% to get the CYA down to a suitable level. Since the test kit is based on 7ml pool water i chose to use 2ml of pool water and...

CYA test still showing high after draining 70% of the pool

I went back to the test kit i have, and for the sample, I removed 60% of the sample water, and replaced it with tap water. Then I retested for CYA and it was around 45. So i guess i need to go back and drain another 70% of the water.

CYA test still showing high after draining 70% of the pool

Hi Guys! Had a pool for not too long now and still trying to figure out proper chemical/cleaning procedures. My calcium hardness and CYA was way too high so I ended up draining 70% of the pool. The CYA was reporting a little bit above 100 and the Calcium hardness was reporting somewhere...

Time to replace the pool water?

Hi Everyone! Recently i purchased a home that has a pool! I'm finally starting to look at it after a couple months of owning the property. About 2 months ago i took my water to a shop to get tested and today I performed a test using the taylor-k2006 test kit. Here's the results: poolshop, 2...

How to be as lazy as possible and have a clean pool ?

Hi Everyone! With the ownership of a house that came with an inground pool, comes great responsibility.. keeping it clean. Unfortunately i have little time and have a lot of other things to do. Although I'd still like to do things "myself" (robots count as DIY!) What's the most economical...

don't understand taylor k-2006 chlorine test

Ah ok. So maybe because the calcium hardness is too high it becomes cloudy? Great. I can test for that later. (I'm going to go on an apartment water heist anyways for verification). It's still weird it took 15-20 drops to change to white. I'm under the impression that 2-4ppm for chlorine...

don't understand taylor k-2006 chlorine test

Regarding the complete test results, about 2 months ago i took it to a pool shop who tested the water. I don't have the results on hand, but everything they tested for appeared to be in the acceptable range, except the pool hardness was too high. Not sure if that helps. The only test kit that...

don't understand taylor k-2006 chlorine test

it takes about 15-20 drops before it comes white. That's with 10ml of water. According to the Taylor test kit 1 drop = .5ppm with 10ml. If white is the correct color that would mean my free chlorine is somewhere between 7.5-10ppm. That doesn't seem right since i haven't put any chlorine in...

don't understand taylor k-2006 chlorine test

Hello Everyone! This is my first post. I've been trying to understand pool maintenance for a few weeks ever since getting a house that has an in-ground pool. I ended up getting the Taylor k-2006 test kit since it seemed to be used here on the forums. I'm already stuck on the first test and...
