    Flagstone Border Decay / Chipping

Hi All, I have a pebbletec pool, with what I believe is a flagstone border at the top edge. It appears as if the flagstone is chipping off and decaying -- I even found a quarter size chip of it in my pool vacuum. I'm going to assume this has to do something with CH as my pH is usually...

    Tank Body Hairline Crack

The original crack that I spoke about above is getting worse, now I have a small solid stream of water shooting out! Going to have to do something sooner or later now. Questions: 1 - Do I need a 2HP Pump, what can I read to help determine if I should get Variable Speed vs single speed. I'm...

Might be moving to Kansas City - advice?

The 1% tax applies if you live OR work in Kansas City proper. I always commuted from the MO side to employment in the KS side and the cross state income tax thing is a bit of a pain, but you do get some relief.

Might be moving to Kansas City - advice?

I would agree with the recommendation of Liberty or Park Hill School district then. Both great areas and much closer to the airport. The airport is way north of downtown KC.

Might be moving to Kansas City - advice?

I used to live I'm Kansas City for 30 years before moving to Florida. There are many nice parts, many have been mentioned above. Do you know yet where you will be working potentially? What type of activities do you and your family enjoy?

    Test Kit

Daily, you will want to do the OTO Test. (The one with Cl and Ph) There are of course exceptions to this, ie. When SLAMing.

    Pool Light Safety

Valid question, and one I don't 100% no the answer to. I assume 120 because I didn't see anything that looked like a transformer. Where would a transformer typically be placed?

    Pool Light Safety

Recently the local (and some national) news has been reporting in injuries and deaths from malfunctioning pool lights. While I believe properly installed pool lights are likely safer than driving to the store to get bread, I thought I would ask the experts. What type of regular checks should be...

    Hand turned color?

Indeed I did, and I dumped it out into my hands to fetch my speedster magnet. I will stop doing that!

    Hand turned color?

See below picture, not sure how this happened but I only have one theory. Theory is that I was doing weekly testing (all tests in TF100) and spilled something on my hand. I didn't notice until we were actually swimming though, so maybe something in the pool water reacted to it? Soap doesn't...

Is PH of 7.8 too high?

My PH seems to creep up to 7.8 and then remains fairly steady -- just wondering if I can leave it here provided I keep close watch. Also, my CH is slowly trending downwards - It has gone from 275 to 225 in a month -- I suspect this is because my fill water is after whole house water softener...

    Cartridge Filter Leaking on Startup

Upon pump start up, my cartridge filter leaks for about 10 seconds then completely stops. I've used a health amount of magic lube on the O ring, and that seems to help a little. Not sure if this is normal or not (I suspect that it is not.) Is it time just for a new O ring?

Testing salt levels with the Taylor K-1766 kit

For me, it changes from a yellowish color to a milky red salmon color. The change is apparent. I stop as soon as it makes this change.

    Lowering alkalinity

Yes, lowering your pH with acid will also lower your TA. You will likely have to do this several times to get the TA in the range you want. As woody mentioned, see this link and it will tell you what to do: http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/129-how-to-lower-lowering-total-alkalinity

    Efflorescence, Salt or Calcium

Yes, the water was that high previously. It's beena while though as I thought brushing or rain water would help clean it. Should I brush with some more diluted acid and put additional elbow grease in it? Anyway to prevent this from happening? Also wondering if my CH is too high or too low?

    Efflorescence, Salt or Calcium

Can someone tell me what this is? Its constantly on my rock wall and border. 5 to 1 diluted MA reacts with it a little bit, bit doesn't seem to clean it very well. (I'm not sure if its just reacting with the soft stone or if thats possible though.) Anyway to clean this off and keep it...

    CC Test Question

The pink (if CCs are present) is definitely noticeable though, right? I just have never seen it, so I'm starting to question myself.

    CC Test Question

When testing for CC with the TF-100, how pink does the water turn if you have any CC? I suspect that it turns back to the original bright pink. I've never had that happen, which is likely due to my light load and SWG. Just checking.

    Calcium Scaling?

Maybe that's a bad description. It's not soft, it's hard but glossy looking. Reminds me of stalagmites in caves.

Not completely sure. Its somewhat slimy/glossy looking -- doesn't appear to be left over salt residue.

    Calcium Scaling?

I have a spa that overflows a rock wall ledge into the pool. In the mortar between the rocks I am noticing what appears to be white calcium scaling? Scrubbing with stainless brush removes a small bit. (very hard scrubbing.) Whats the best way to remove/prevent this? Current Test Results...

    Long Term Maintenance Costs?

Since I'm new to having a pool, and most of the immediate stuff under control, I'm starting to wonder about long term maintenance / upgrades that will need to be done. The pool was built in 2004, and from what I can tell, not much has been done to it, other than keeping the chemistry correct...

Inspecting Auto Cleaner / Proper way to not lose prime?

Hi All, Is there a "proper" way to inspect the bottom of an automatic pool cleaner that doesn't suck air in? Should I not be running the pump when I do this? Currently, I pull it out of the water for 15-30 seconds, look at it and put it back in. Air does get sucked in, however I am not sure...

    Black and White Stains?

I never have, but hard to know what's been done in the last 9 years. I don't think it's algae, FC is 6.5 and CC is 0. Do you think it's a metal stain? Anything that can be done?
