How high do you let CH go?

Plenty of people are using water softeners for their top-up water. You may wish to consider that for your autofill.

    Harley's Pool

On another note, I PM’d Harley because we have the same Jacuzzi pump/filter combo. My MPV will not fully seat into the filter. I placed my 200# bulk on it with plenty of lube and it wouldn’t budge a millimeter. I called In The Swim and they’re sending out a new o-ring. Perhaps it came with the...

    Harley's Pool

Funny story. I go to the in-town pool builder/store and they simply don’t use the high temp unions. I called up two pool stores in Springfield and neither of them had a clue. Sigh. Ordered the CMP brand from Amazon.

    Floating chlorinator

Please read the link provided regarding FC/CYA. Using the pool math app 1.5 gallons of 10% LC will add approx 5.9 ppm of FC.

    Floating chlorinator

If your CYA truly is 80 you shouldn't have lowered your chlorine level. Please dont add anything else other than liquid chlorine until YOU test your own water. You need to add 5ppm of liquid chlorine in a day until your test kit arrives and you can find out your actual levels.

Adding Diatomaceous Earth to a sand filter

The added DE is very useful during SLAM to get rid of the very last of the dead algae.

What did you do to your pool today?

Pretty much everything is popping here. There’s an abundance of trees here with no hope of escaping seeds and pollen. I hope we’re done with frost. Had to cover vegetation last week. Luckily, the asparagus, sage, oregano, and garlic were unscathed. Planted radishes over the weekend. Just...

What did you do to your pool today?

Drained the pool cover again. It was quite a bit after the last round of storms. Getting itchy to open it.

Please help my pool boy. Pics for reference.

Have you scrubbed every last inch, crevice, and niche? You have algae hiding somewhere.

What did you do to your pool today?

I drained my cover. Had a hard freeze and frost the past 7 or so days. Not quite ready to open.

Fairly new pool owner - took over pool maintenance 8 months ago and I rarely have to adjust my alkalanity, is this normal?

To directly answer your question, it can be normal. I had to add MA once last season. My pH and TA were stabile at 7.8 and 80 with very little movement. I consider myself very lucky.

SWG for Above Ground Pool not marketed as SW

It’s BS. Resin ABGs are a better option for multiple reasons but not solely because of salt.

Order of Operations Opening for the Season

In addition to allowing ample time to mix the water, allow your sample water to be room temp before checking CYA.

    Harley's Pool

I let my my pump run 24/7. I’m looking forward to the saving by running it in low speed. However, if you really need a timer I found this and it works. I tried it for a bit and decided I liked to run 24/7. It’s a personal choice...

Truly torn - SWG or Chlorine

I vote SWG. Convenience and in the long run it’s less expensive. You’ll appreciate it when you go away.

You’re going to get what you pay for. I picked up a 2-speed pump/sand filter combo on sale after last season. There’s an even better sale now. https://intheswim.com/search?q=41150&search-button=&lang=en_US

I use an Intex SWCG rated for 15k in my 7.3k pool. At most it runs 7 hours/day and fulfills the mission. The first smaller one lasted 2 years. This will be the second year for this one.

The big expense has already been made. The relative nominal expense of the kit and reagents will save you untold hundreds of dollars annually.

    Wall cracking

Flex anything isn’t going to help. You should drain before calamity happens. It’s quite likely that more than that is rusted beyond repair and will need replaced.

I replaced the cord on my Intex SWCG so it would fit in my exterior GFCI outlet contraption.

What did you do to your pool today?

The initial volume to cover the virgin fence was just under 15 gallons. I figure no more than 10 gallons should do it this year. $205 is the price for 5 gallons now. That’s double the initial price 5 years ago.
