    Scale

Two seasons ago I was fastidious at keeping my water balanced. I used bleach, aerated to lower my TA, kept my pH in the correct range, and had fabulous water thanks to all the knowledge shared on this forum. Last season I had a infant and was extremely busy with other things. I didn't have time...

    Gelcoat Chipping and Blistering

I have a fiberglass pool that is probably north of 20 years old (some neighbors remember it being craned over the house but don't remember when). There are quite a few chips and hairline cracks in the gelcoat and I'm starting to notice a lot of blistering as well. The shell itself seems to be in...

    pH is always rising

Since I'm no chemist I am trying to understand why my pH is always rising to unacceptable levels. When I opened my pool this spring my TA was 290 and CH was 530. My fill water is from a well and has about the same numbers. Over the past 4 weeks I have added 3 gallons of acid (not all at once)...

    Lowering Calcium Hardness

The Numbers: CH 520 pH 7.6 TA 190 (down from 290 after two weeks of aerating and two gallons of Muriatic Acid to lower the pH) My fill water comes from my well and the CH out of the well is 430. I'm assuming that my CH would only get higher after water evaporates and concentrates over time...

    Main Drain Question

This forum is getting better every day. I have a question about my main drain. It is plumbed up to my skimmer instead of directly to the pump. The pool is an IG fiberglass and my best guess is that it was built about 25 years ago. Will a drain set up like this still get some flow due to...

    nocaster

Hello, I had been lurking on poolforum.com and was happy to find a link to this forum. It's nice to actually post! I grew up with an IG pool and took care of it when I was a teenager. Last summer I purchased a house with a pool but was only able to use it for about 5 weeks before it turned too...

    New Pool Owner...Old Test Kit.

I purchased a house last summer with an IG fiberglass pool. This is my first year to open it from the beginning of the season. There was an older DPD test kit left behind that probably has not been used for several years. The test cell reads up to 10 ppm and there are some really old reagents...
