Excuse me while I spend a week in Cardiac ICU

So over the weekend, I went to an LPS. Put away your pitchforks, I just needed a couple of mechanical items. (Backwash hose, skimmer lid, that sort of thing). Around here, choosing an LPS is pretty much like deciding which foot to drop the bowling ball on. One in particular is as useful at...

I'll be over here writing "I will never not cover my pool again" 50 times... UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGGGGGGHGHHGHGGHGHHG!!:pukel::suspect::thumbdown: So yeah. 4 years has taught me that I tend to replace a cover every year, never seem to get the sucker off/out cleanly in the spring...

Year 5, still love you guys!

Not terribly active around here these days, but I never forget how amazing this community has been, and still is. There's always folks with a ready answer, useful advice, and kind words. I've lost track now of how many friends' pools I've helped "rescue" with what I've learned form this group...

Spring opening started with a liner change. Thank goodness for simple start-up!

So yeah...last fall we developed a small leak in our 3yo "I've got garbage bags thicker than that" stock AGP liner. Winter saw it lose most (80% or more) of its water. Cut to May, thought we found the leak, started refilling, back yard is soaked 2 days later. :grrrr: Several hours spent with...

3rd time opening, I love you guys. :)

3rd time we've opened this thing. Opened on Sunday morning, in hopes to get things warm enough for next weekend's BBQ. :) This year's excitement (we have an "event" every year it seems *heh*) was the Great Organic Spill of 2014...one of the kids accidentally let an edge of the pool cover slip...

Will some of you BBB masters backstop me please?

Hey BBBB (The 4th one is Bretheren) Got a friend who's finally tired of being pool stored. He's got a ~ 16000g irregularly shaped IGP, vinyl liner, that he acquired with a foreclosure house he bought 2 years ago. Last year, he argued and fought with it, spent thousands at the LPS, and...

    Pork Tenderloin

Tonight was our first evening outdoor dinner and swimming for the season. Thought I'd share tonight's recipe. :) Dinner tonight was that most wonderful cut of the pig, the tenderloin. We had two tenderloins, about 3 lb of meat. Prepped the meat by removing the silver skin and back strap. I...

A bonding question I don't see asked elsewhere

Our AGP appears to have a...unique?...construction. The metal pool legs to not form a reliable connection to the pool wall. Due to paint, gaps, etc.[/*:m:3ei4088n] Atop the pool legs is a plastic bracket, to which the metal railing and metal "ring" around the top of the wall is...

How my son and I spent a pool-less winter. :)

Ok, nothing whatsoever to do with pools..but we enjoy sharing the results of our "winter hobby". Admittedly, we can do this all year long, but winter often offers the best viewing conditions. :)

Man, I HATE this BBB stuff...

So we pulled the cover off today for our first official "opening" as pool owners, and LOOK at this mess we found! A bit of dirt at the bottom from a brief upset with the cover...other than that, nothing but nice clear water. :goodjob: Filling now, will backwash the filter then...

First winter closing 24' Above Ground. Double check me!

Hi gang, Well, the sad time for closing has come to middle TN. It's pretty regularly in the 70's or low 80's for high temps now, with lows in the 50's...kids and wife want no part of the 72 degree water! This will be my first close. I've read, studied, asked, checked, and...

    Just HAVE to share this...

Coworker was skeptical the other day. Said there was "no way" a pool could be kept clear with "just bleach and a filter". Told him I'd bring pictures, he said if I could take a picture that truly showed a crystal clear pool, he'd give 'this BBB thing" another look. This is what I'm showing...

    Contests for TFTestkits gift certificates?

Hey Dave, Can one purchase a "gift card" or something of the sort for TFTestkits.com? I'm asking because I'd like (with your and Jason's kind permission, of course) to see if maybe we could do an occasional "contest" thread, perhaps as a way to help new BBBers afford a test kit, or just as a...

DIY Single Return Mods - Return + Fountain

Over in this thread a discussion sprang up about PVC fountains and modifying returns and such. I'd asked for (and received!) some advice and information, and said I'd share the results in their own thread. My intent was to add a cooling spray fountain to my return, but keep the functionality...

So yeah...I kinda hate BBB now...

I'd posted elsewhere about our short vacation recently, with a big :goodjob: to BBB for helping us avert a potential pool disaster. But I really have to say...I'm kinda ticked off at you folks as well. See...our vacation was to various amusement parks/water parks...and I am now TOTALLY UNABLE...

Potential nightmare averted - Thanks BBB

So, just got back from a small vacation. Had a friend who was dropping by, adding 4ppm of 6% bleach each day. Day 1 (Tuesday morning) he calls me. Pump's gone south, never to be heard from again. Great...just spectacular. It's supposed to be record temps here all week (105 Thursday, 111...

    Am I missing something?

Ok...the last 2-3 weeks, the pool's been going through 4-5 ppm of chlorine a day. Never less than 3.5 (on no bather days), around 5 on high load days. Here's what i know and what I've done: 1) I test in the mornings as a general rule, usually between 6-7am. CC will be .5 3-4 days a week, 0...

Dogs, dogs, and more dogs. Let's see your dogs!

Was posting in another thread this morning about keeping our furry friends happy and entertained, and thought "Man...TFP needs a dog thread." Did a quick search, went back about 16 months, didn't find one. So, if there's been one before, by golly, it's time for another. :-D Me first, me...

An ozone question...about the biggest ozonator of them all!

So, I've learned this morning that over the next few days, our Eath Brand (tm) Planetary-Sized Ozonator will be working overtime, driving low level ozone levels through the roof this weekend. Out of nothing more than idle curiosity... Will this change my FC consumption? :)

    Would you shock here?

Situation: Unexpected "pool party" cropped up last night. Wound up with 4 kids and 2 adults in the pool for over an hour. Much splashing, yelling, and fun occurred. This morning, the pool is still clear, I don't see any cloudiness in a sample tube or the pool. Pulled 2 fairly...

    You know what rules?

Walking out to your pool, test kit in hand, expecting certain very manageable changes to certain values for very predictable and knowable reasons... And finding the values to be precisely what you expected. You guys kick a metric boatload of behind. :goodjob:

    Airplane Nerd Stuff :)

I'd asked, in another thread, about preparations for an anticipated high bather load this weekend. The thread got taken a bit astray, as we started discussing airshows (an airshow being the reason for the expected gathering) and I posted a few photos and videos taken of early aircraft arrivals...

Preparing for a high bather load

Our family will be hosting a gathering of a fair number of people this Sunday. It's anticipated that anywhere from 15-20 of them may want to splash about or lounge on rafts for some/much of the afternoon. The group will be about half kids and half adults, and will be at our place for roughly...

    Indentation in AGP floor

High gang. Rather disturbing finding today. Between the skimmer and single eyeball return (approx a 3-4' distance between the two), about 18-24" in from the wall, a small indentation has appeared in the floor of our new (less than a month old) pool. The indentation is about 2-3" deep, more or...

How do I mark posts as read?

On most forums, I have the ability to mark all posts as read, so i can start with a clean "View unread posts" slate, as it were. I don't see that option here at TFP...furthermore, reading a post doesn't seem to remove it from the "View unread Posts" list. What am I missing?
