Went on vacation and came back to bad chemistry

Last night I accidentally? put too much liquid chlorine in, 2 FC over my SLAM goal. SLAM called for 24 FC and we tested 26 hours right before bed. The chemicals had about 2 hours to mix. This morning my FC is 23.5, so a loss of 2.5 FC. My CC tested at 0 and the pool is crystal clear. I'll...

Went on vacation and came back to bad chemistry

Went on vacation and came back to bad chemistry

Long story short, went on vacation for awhile, left pool with brother, things got messed up. I just need someone to verify my thoughts about what I'm seeing. I've done a bad job keeping records.. for shame. I have tested though, and the pool hasn't fallen below 0 FC. CC is <= 0.5, which I...

    Deep cleaning sand filter

Well, I took a flathead screwdriver to the lid and got it popped open. It actually is setup just like the picture I posted. The sand looked and felt fine to me, I rinsed a good bit of it until all the little bugs and such were gone. I had the multiport set to closed so water was draining down...

    Deep cleaning sand filter

My pump is a waterco sm600m8 and I can't even get the glass lid off so I think it's time to call a pro in. Might be time to redo the whole thing.

    Deep cleaning sand filter

I should note that the filter has a clear dome on the top, with the pressure gauge. The multiport is not part of the barrel.

    Deep cleaning sand filter

After reading this: Deep Cleaning a Sand Filter i have a question. My pool has obviously been open for months now. I never actually close the pool down. Anyway, the way the pool was installed, there are no shutoff valves on any pvc, intake or outtake. So, if im rinsing from the top, how do...

    Problem after new liner install.

Hey, it's 8'6" I believe. One thing I'm certain of is it's a man-made object. There is a small, perfect circle outline visible.

    Problem after new liner install.

Called a few companies locally to install a new pool liner. It's about a 10 year old 36k pool and we bought the house last summer, it had come off the coping some. Finally found someone that would do a blue dolphin pool (something about the way it's installed is difficult). Anyway, we were...

    Newbie Closing

First, I want to say my first ever season with a pool was wildly successful thanks to this place. We never had any time wasted fixing water chemistry, never any algae blooms, etc, tested my own water cleaned my own pool. Thanks. I'm planning the closing, but I'm just curious how I can get the...

Mysterious chlorine loss... SLAM even though not failing entrance criteria?

Incredibly insightful thread. I'll check my niche and ladder tomorrow!

    To SLAM or not

Congrats, on day two of my first SLAM.. something ate my FC from 24 to 7.5 over night lol. Hoping I'm winning the fight!

Ah, more learning for me. I'll read up on it! Thanks!

    SLAMing test question

Yeah, I realized how stupid that was after I asked the question. I'd normally tested with 25ml but have moved to 10ml for SLAM.

I was curious if that was it. But the degree symbol was throwing me off. Thanks.

    SLAMing test question

Yes, the pH was 7.6.. I might just put a cup in and give it 20 mins and test pH

    SLAMing test question

Yes sir, but the highest I see in pool math is 29%. Is the difference negligible?

    SLAMing test question

Ok, man. I'm just now realizing I needed to adjust the pH to like 7.2 I found muriatic acid at 31.45% hydrogen chloride but unsure what qty to put in.. the poolmath doesn't seem to have that option available.

    SLAMing test question

I went to bed with 23.6 ppm FC and woke up with 7.8 Makes no sense, the pool is spotless to be honest. I'll keep SLAMing until I lose less than 1 ppm and CC is < 0.5 But someone please reassure me this sounds normal. pH 7.6 CyA 60

    SLAMing test question

I swear I read somewhere I can run a diluted test to check FC? I don't want to put over a hundred drops in to test again.

    New Homeowner, new pool owner

Overnight test was just a hair over -1FC from last night and CC is at 0.6 Either I have caught this very early or I don't need to slam. The water is still crystal clear, but the bottom does look a little.. off. I'm gonna nuke it today just to be safe.

    New Homeowner, new pool owner

I did have FC hit 0 so I suppose I was supposed to SLAM. Will begin that process tomorrow if I can find liquid chlorine or decent bleach anywhere.

    New Homeowner, new pool owner

FAC is confounding me. I made a couple of applications to bring the FAC up to 5.4 as I went to bed. This morning, without testing, I added 121 oz of 7.5 and to my surprise, when I tested after work, I received a 3.6 when I expected an 8.5. I think something is eating my chlorine faster than I...

    Century Centurion Switchless Motor Troubleshooting

Hey all, Having trouble with the pump. It runs fine when it runs. When I shut the pump off to vacuum, I haven't had it fail to turn back on. When I shut the pump off to remove the vacuum from the skimmer, 9/10 all I will get is a hum. I have very limited electrical knowledge, however, I was...

    New Homeowner, new pool owner

Right on. I paid for the unlimited logs for 7 bucks a year and will use that for record keeping. The pool water is very high, so I'll have to drain some off before fixing the chemistry. This did make me think, though. What benefit does waste have over backwash for a multivalve pump? If I...
