Pool delayed by months; Need pool heat pump + gas heater recommendation please

Thank you! I called my PB and asked him if we had a heater bypass for each heater. We did not. He's putting them in now.

Installing multiple heat pumps in parallel—advisable?

Valid point. I was told that the heat pumps that chill + heat (as opposed to just heat), operate better when the ambient temp drops (which it does for a few months in the year, and the hope is to swim at 79 degrees Fahrenheit 365 days a year)...

Pool delayed by months; Need pool heat pump + gas heater recommendation please

Thanks to your recommendation, I did some digging, spoke with AquaCal, and my PB picked up two units of the AquaCal Heatwave Superquiet SQ166R from the distributor today. No more reason to delay the pool. Thanks for helping me move fast!

Installing multiple heat pumps in parallel—advisable?

I will report back when it's all finally done (fingers crossed).

Installing multiple heat pumps in parallel—advisable?

A relief! Yes, we put in 4 Tesla Powerwalls. Getting my husband to accept lots of pool solar all over the yard would have been an uphill challenge. Thank you so much for your guidance!

Installing multiple heat pumps in parallel—advisable?

Thank you, that is reassuring to hear from you. Yes, we have an automatic pool cover, so the pool will always be covered when not in use. We also put in a massive Tesla solar system--and ran out of roof space for pool solar doing that. The gentleman at AquaCal said that with two of the...

Installing multiple heat pumps in parallel—advisable?

Hmm, that was the advice of the gentleman I spoke with at AquaCal. Two units of the AquaCal Heatwave Superquiet SQ166R (126K BTU; heat and cool) installed in parallel, instead of just one unit of the SQ225 (143K BTU; heat only)--apparently, the heat pumps that can heat and cool are able to...

Installing multiple heat pumps in parallel—advisable?

Got it, thank you. Current thought is 2 heat pumps and 1 gas heater for exactly the reasons you mention =)

Installing multiple heat pumps in parallel—advisable?

Sorry, was typing too fast--I should have said "cost of energy" instead of "cost of electricity" =p I will have a Raypak 407K natural gas heater for when the ambient temperature is not warm enough for the heat pump to work. But, of course, am hoping the heat pump will do most of the heavy...

Installing multiple heat pumps in parallel—advisable?

Hi, all, I understand from reading the “Pentair UltraTemp Heat Pump Further Reading” page that it is possible to install multiple heat pumps in parallel (with each heat pump getting an equal flow of water and confirming that my plumbing system can provide the minimum flow of 30 gpm to each heat...

    Flowmeter on autofill

I will report back when it all actually comes together. And yes, exactly. I'm putting a Flo by Moen on my main meter (whole house leak detection device), and I don't want my autofill triggering the whole house leak detection. The Flo learns by detecting unusual/irregular water usage. So I'm...

    Flowmeter on autofill

Hi, Jerz, is this for whole house monitoring since you strap it onto your water meter? Or can it be strapped just to an auto fill line? Thanks!

Pool delayed by months; Need pool heat pump + gas heater recommendation please

Hi, all, I have an approx 43K gallon lap pool (82 x 12 foot) in the works, but the build has been delayed since June of this year because the PB cannot get equipment from his supplier. Now, most of the equipment is in (we did pretty much Pentair for everything), except for the: -Pentair...

    Flowmeter on autofill

My pool is delayed right now because my PB's supplier cannot get hold of equipment. But my plan is to install the Orbit 62061Z Single-Outlet Hose Watering Timer + Neptune T-10 3/4" Potable Water Meter on the auto-fill line.

two Pentair Clean & Clear Plus 420 filters versus single Sta-Rite System 3 S8M500

I am so sorry for the dumb noob question. I was reviewing the TFP “How to select pool equipment - Further Reading” page again, and saw that it specifies: "At a minimum you want 200SF/10,000 gallons of pool volume." Does this mean that for a 43,244 gallons pool, I really want to be getting 865+...

two Pentair Clean & Clear Plus 420 filters versus single Sta-Rite System 3 S8M500

Ouch! This is my lived experience right now, only I haven't started calling online retailers yet to find out who has stock.

two Pentair Clean & Clear Plus 420 filters versus single Sta-Rite System 3 S8M500

That is a problem I'm struggling with as well--almost every large item on my list of pool equipment needed is backordered with no ETA. It is reassuring that both seem like solid options.

two Pentair Clean & Clear Plus 420 filters versus single Sta-Rite System 3 S8M500

A lot more parts to potentially mess up and fail in the CCP. I can see now why you like the S8M500. These are great visuals, thank you!

two Pentair Clean & Clear Plus 420 filters versus single Sta-Rite System 3 S8M500

Thank you! I wasn't quite following his logic either, but he was saying it in a very matter of fact manner, so I was all: maybe I just don't understand? Do you have an estimate of how much the S8M500 weighs when wet? Are we talking 50 lbs here, or more than that?

two Pentair Clean & Clear Plus 420 filters versus single Sta-Rite System 3 S8M500

Hi! My pool guy is recommending the use of two Pentair Clean & Clear Plus 420 filters (420 sf filter area), instead of a single Sta-Rite System 3 S8M500 (500 sf filter area). His reasoning is that (i) the replacement Pentair CCP420 cartridges are cheaper than the replacement S8M500 cartridges...

    Flowmeter on autofill

Hi ajw22, I'm building a pool now and would like to incorporate yours and Qwijib0's ideas: Is there a digital flow meter for hooking up to an autofill that you would recommend, please? Thanks!
