HELP! Will a dark pebble make my pool like bath water?

I don’t think it makes a huge difference. I have a dark blue-green-ish pebble tec finish (don’t know exact color, pool was here when we bought the house.) My next-door neighbor has a smaller pool with white plaster finish - based on my unscientific observations they feel around the same temp...

    Skimmer Diverter Plate; Flap Position?

Do you have a functioning pressure gauge? If I have both main drain and skimmer fully open, my pressure is ~20psi. If I close the main drain pressure drops a few psi (pump can’t pull enough water from just skimmer return alone). So I run skimmer full open and main drain half open which gives max...

Hayward Cartridge Filter Locking Knob Repair

Thanks for posting. My C1200 filter top blew off this weekend - threads on the locking knob were stripped out. Ordered a new knob and washer/o-ring kit and replaced today - your vid was very helpful and saved me some $$$. Cheers!

Just replaced locking nut on a Hayward C1200, and the lid won't close

Know this is an old thread but I had same issue, couldn’t close the lid after installing new knob. Cleaning threads at the top did the trick. Guess they weren’t an issue with the old knob since those threads were so stripped. Thanks!

LED pool and spa light recommendation

One of the sunseeker’s? Mine is starting to act a little flaky after ~18 months - at times it won’t change color even when I cycle on/off. Hoping it holds up a bit longer. I hear you on the cables. One tip that was helpful to me: lube the cable generously with a silicone lube like magic lube...

    Spa pump tripping breaker

What kind of pump is it? Does it have unions? If so replacing with a pump of same dimensions makes this a very easy job. Inyopools.com or other retailers (or folks on here) can help you find one w same dimensions. Otherwise most any pump will work with some plumbing required. I would go single...

Please sanity check my pump (re) plumbing plans

I am planning to replace the pump for my waterfall spillover. It's an old Hayward Super that will be replaced with a Waterway SMF (with 2" unions) Just wanted to sanity check my plumbing plans. I'm going to cut at the red marks shown and will probably put the new check valve on the horizontal...

    Vacuum solutions

Do you have enough suction at the skimmer to vacuum the old fashioned manual way? That is going to be your cheapest option- the vac head attachments are generally around $30 As mentioned above need to fix your chemistry

LED pool and spa light recommendation

The nomenclature on their website is confusing. I got this pool tone model. It’s not “nicheless” but it needs roughly the same clearance as your current one, maybe an inch or so (definitely not 7)

I replaced a Hayward colorlogic with a Florida Sunseeker Pooltone earlier this year. It’s only been a few months but so far so good. It’s as bright as the Hayward was.

    Light fixture wiring question

If you look inside the niche do you see a bonding lug? It should attach there. After the bonding wire is attached to the lug it’s covered with a potting compound, so your lug may be covered with a blob of dark compound.

    Anyone tried an Ariel yet?

I’ll just add that replacing your weir has a pretty significant impact on skimming performance. I didn’t even know I was supposed to have a weir until I read it on here - ordered a replacement and it made a huge difference. (Probably not going to take care of dead birds but it will help w the...

I don't understand my salt level test

Your SWG manual will tell you recommended salt level. In your case it’s 3600ppm. 2600 is the low limit and 4500 is the high limit. Is the high salt indicator showing on your SWG? 4,800 is high but not ridiculously so. If your SWG is working you should be okay - although you can drain/refill a...

TA @ 53 and PH @ 7.5 do I need to raise TA?

Your TA is okay, though at the low end of the TFP recommended range of 50-90. You need to get a proper test kit - the TFP guidelines are quite different from the pool store. IMO the TFP guidelines achieve far better results are also much easier on your wallet. You also need to get your FC up...

All good advice above. Just to clarify your comment, adding acid lower pH and TA, the aeration is used to get youpH back up. As Oly said TA isn’t all that important, your pH will rise a little faster with higher TA than without...

    GFCI for CH sub panel

So my pool was built pre-NEC req for GFCI and none of my equipment is GFCI protected. I am going to replace a waterfall pump soon and figured I’d look at putting all the equip on GFCI while I’m at it. I have a cutler hammer sub panel (pic) w 6 20 amp breakers: - Three 2-pole breakers (single...

Chlorine levels dropping quickly after Shock

Clear water is a good first step, but your chlorine loss is a sign you still have algae or something else in the water the chlorine is fighting. You need to maintain the shock level and hold it until you don’t lose more than 1.0ppm FC overnight and your CC is 0.5 or less. This will be much...

Good advice. To be clear regular Clorox should be fine, but there are types (typically they have “blue” in the name) that have added copper. I don’t know much about copper removal either. Your water should be fine for swimming, it appears the drinking water limit is 1.3ppm. Might turn hair a bit...

You bet, I was in the same spot (1st time pool owner) a year or so ago. This place is a great resource and will ultimately save you a lot of time and money (and keep your water clear). I can see your logs - get your chlorine up w the bleach and you’ll be fine - good luck!

Your original ph of 7.5 was fine. Store probably gave you acid to lower TA. Read about that process here: https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/lower-total-alkalinity/ Your ph will naturally increase over time. For chlorine, if your pool is 18’ diameter and 5’ deep you’re at ~10k...

Welcome! I second an1vrsy, get a proper test kit and read the article he . The pool store will do you no favors - for example, there is no need for you to be adding CH to a vinyl liner pool as vinyl won’t etch like a plaster pool. You definitely need to add some chlorine quickly based on those...

New to SWG and my pool just turned cloudy - I have numbers

I doubt it, but impossible to be sure until the algae problem is gone. As long as you’re losing chlorine due to algae, it’s impossible to know how much the SWG is producing. Once you take that loss out of the equation (by passing OCLT) you’ll be able to measure SWG output more accurately.
