What are these brown spots in the plaster?

Any guesses as to how long before they stop showing up? I let the PB know and he has at least one other pool with the same problem. He is meeting with the plasterer tomorrow. I told him I'd wait it out if the spots stopped appearing before the start of next season.

What are these brown spots in the plaster?

Mystery solved. It is caused by iron fragments. I dug out the center of a couple of the spots while holding a super magnet nearby. Each time the super magnet came up with a small piece of rusty iron less than a mm in diameter. I'm letting the PB know now. I really could use some advice on...

What are these brown spots in the plaster?

Since acid cleans them up (temporarily) I'm starting to wonder if they are metal shavings from the mixer or pump. Will try to dig one out tomorrow to see if it is magnetic.

What are these brown spots in the plaster?

It's a re-plaster but I'm sure it's not rebar. It seems to be a contaminant in the pebble. I had not thought about abalone shell. I have one leftover bag of the pebble mix and will check it when I get home later. What happens with abalone shells?

What are these brown spots in the plaster?

These spots started showing up after plastering even before filling. There seems to be a source pebble in each one. If I dig it out and acid treat the area, the spot goes away. The problem is that more and more are showing up and it has been 5 weeks since plastering. PB says he has no idea...

Gas Heater to Omnilogic wiring question, 2-wire or 3-wire?

Apparently there is no need for a fireman's switch in modern heaters. From what I gather the 2-wire vs 3-wire connection is related to which devices thermostat is used.

Gas Heater to Omnilogic wiring question, 2-wire or 3-wire?

I am installing my Omnilogic and have a question about the LV connection to the Hayward Universal H-Series Heater. I have an attached spa that shares all equipment with the pool. I will be mostly heating the spa but may occasionally want to heat the pool. Which is a better connection type...

    New plaster, low CH

That was my concern. I think I'll add calcium and then deal with high CH down the road. The post by pooldv here has me nervous about causing long term damage.

    Do I need a blower?

I had not thought about that. I assumed I would only be installing a smaller (~1hp) blower. Do you think it would be a problem even if I size it down?

    Do I need a blower?

Yes. The speed in the video is hitting about 30PSI on the filter gauge.

    Do I need a blower?

Yes. That is the way this one was built 50 years ago. I added a 4th line between the steps and the first jet but could not come up with an easy way to add air to it so I put one of the rotating fittings there.

Pebble plaster in high Arizona heat?

I spent about 2 hours on the bottom carefully chipping out the slurry that was plugging the main drain and snaking the line. Got most of it out and that line now has about 95% of the flow it should have. Since the enemy of good is better, I stopped there. I cannot see the crazing now that the...

    Do I need a blower?

Do I need a blower? This video shows the amount of air being injected by just the venturi effect. Since I am replacing all of the equipment as part of the remodel, why not add something else. Here is a video showing the current jets: Spa jets without a blower I have nothing to compare...

    New plaster, low CH

I was told to keep the pH around 7.0-7.2 and I'm also following the Pebble Tec guidelines at https://mmgtx.com/docs/PTI-Start-Up-Maintenance-Procedures-Chlorine.pdf I have had to add acid to keep it in the suggested range. Was using leftover pucks to increase CYA. Most of the chlorine is...

    New plaster, low CH

I got plastered two weeks ago and my CH is staying around 150. Should I be concerned? I know that in Arizona it will rise over time but I'm wondering if being low now will cause any issues with the fresh plaster. My PoolMath logs are in my profile.

Pebble plaster in high Arizona heat?

I just checked and I can not see any sign of the crazing at night with the light on.

Pebble plaster in high Arizona heat?

The diamond pads worked well and definitely smoothed it out. It is now much smoother than I expected. I'm very happy with the result. Working on the drain today we loosened up some of the slurry and now have about 50% flow. Good enough for now. Unfortunately none of the large chunks we...

Pebble plaster in high Arizona heat?

Yes. It was definitely due to the hot day and the plaster being too wet. Fortunately it is invisible when the pool is full.

Pebble plaster in high Arizona heat?

I am sure that tarping the pool for the first two days helped the curing process. However, I did get a lot of spider web hairline cracks. I'm sure this was from the heat and the plaster mix being a little too wet. I'm a little concerned but it seems the consensus here is generally if the pool...

Pebble plaster in high Arizona heat?

Of course more problems when filled. The cap on the anode was defective and had a split so I couldn't start the circulation for 2 days. And the bottom drain line in the pool is plugged. I was able to get some debris pushed out of the drain from the top with hose water pressure but still very...

Pebble plaster in high Arizona heat?

Two days after getting plastered :ROFLMAO: the acid wash guy arrived. I was a little skeptical about just one guy but he had a routine and it turned out great. He had a grinder with polishing pads so I paid him extra to polish everything smooth. I was pretty stressed about how rough the...

Plug for Pool Tool 104D Anode tee?

The anode is actually attached to the cap which threads onto the clear sleeve. The sleeve threads into the tee. Both the cap and tee are non standard threads. I think I can use a winterizing expansion plug in the sleeve by removing the cap and therefore the anode. I'll just keep pump on a...

Plug for Pool Tool 104D Anode tee?

I'm finally filling my pool today and when I turned on the pump for the first time I found a leak. The cap for my new Pool Tool 104D anode has a split in the middle. I called Pool Tool and spoke with the owner. He was nice enough to send me a replacement via 2nd day air but my freshly...

Pebble plaster in high Arizona heat?

I had a few requirements. One was to do full thickness pebble and not an inferior scratch coat followed by the radiant fusion coats. Unfortunately we had some issues right off the bat. They showed up with white pebble to blend with the micro radiant fusion and I was not happy about it. They...
