pH balanced at 7.5 while TA is 200ppm in a SWG pool

@mknauss I found where you were talking about in Pool Math. Under "Effects of adding" you can select the SWG and determine how much run time your SWG will produce in PPM increase! AWESOME! I have my SWG running now. I will retest before I head to bed tonight and determine how much more it...

@mknauss Volume is 10,492 gallons. I have added to my signature too!

pH balanced at 7.5 while TA is 200ppm in a SWG pool

@mknauss, this is probably a stupid question, but I see in my manual that my SWG generates 12 grams/hour. How do I convert this to ppm in order to know how much I should run the generator? Of course I will test it to make sure my FC doesn't fall out of range again.

pH balanced at 7.5 while TA is 200ppm in a SWG pool

@mknauss what should I be aiming for on FC for my SWG pool? I have seen 2-4ppm ranges as the recommendation, but pool math offers a range of 4-11ppm? And what should I do with the mason jar of sodium bisulfate I have dissolving in pool water that I shouldn't add to my pool now?

pH balanced at 7.5 while TA is 200ppm in a SWG pool

@mknauss my SWG doesn't seem to be scaling up, but there are water spots on the outside of my pool. That's clearly a cosmetic issue and probably would happen anyway. Should I lower the pH to 7.2 (bottom of the range) or just leave it as is? BTW, here is a picture of my beautiful water thanks...

pH balanced at 7.5 while TA is 200ppm in a SWG pool

What is the best way to lower TA when the pH is balanced, muriatic acid or dry acid? And will lowering my TA lower my pH too? Test results as of 7/27/2020: FC: 7ppm (coming down from SLAM) CYA: 75 CC: 0 TA: 200ppm pH: 7.5

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

@wireform I am doing this slam specifically because I couldn't hold chlorine but didn't have much algae established at least visible to the eye. I have been checking the FC first thing in the morning (which reveals the overnight loss) add LC, check again around now, had 1.5ppm loss from this...

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

I shouldn't be checking my CYA frequently too during the SLAM though, right? The only criteria I am not meeting to stop the SLAM is the OCLT. Water has never looked better and absolutely no green tinges anywhere. Once we pass the OCLT, when do I restart my SWG and bring up my CYA to 75? The...

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

@wireform I am sure of what my CYA was when I started the SLAM, am I supposed to be checking it throughout the process too? I didn't think I was. Also, the FC is going to be somewhat depleted by the sun during the day, is it not? I didn't think we were too concerned with CL during the day, I...

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

Sigh, we failed the OCLT again this morning. To be fair, I tested at dusk and added chlorine to get me back up to 20, but didn't test 30 mins later to confirm that is where I was at. The calculations on pool math should have brought me up to 20 last night and we tested at 14ppm this morning...

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

@outpost What do you think a SWG pool should be at consistently for CYA? I am still unsure on that. Of course, when I am done with the SLAM I will bring up the CYA to the levels it should be and pay closer attention to maintaining that value. It is what got me here in the first place. That...

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

@mknauss and @outpost Thank you for your replies. I really didn't see any algae in the pool itself, only in the skimmer sock and the sock in the vacuum, BUT I did see a little in one of the intake hoses which I thought was interesting. It is one that we have had issues with it pulling in a bit...

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

@mknauss I added the LC and then tested 30 mins later. My FC was at 22ppm and CC was less than .5. So do I check the levels again tonight or just do the OCLT in the morning? If I pass the OCLT tomorrow morning, the water is already clear, and test the water and have no CC, do I stop the SLAM, or...

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

@mknauss Thank you for all your advice. I just tested with my FAS/DPD test kit. FC is at 4.5 and CC is barely at .5. So I am preparing to dose my pool to 20ppm per the Non SWG chart with a CYA of 50. Should I wait until the sun is completely off my pool to dose it, and how slowly should I add...

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

I am preparing to start my SLAM today when my test kit arrives (it is out for delivery). My CYA is at 50. Should I be trying to raise this to 75 before I start, or is it fine? I am a little unsure what my value should be when balanced. On the text kit instructions, it says 30-50 but I have...

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

@aussieta My salt level is at the optimum level for my generator, right at 3000. @outpost you might be right, I overthink many things, maybe I just need to run my SWG much longer than I though I did, or supplement with liquid chlorine if I don't want to run it 12 hours per day.

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

Just thought I would update my thread with a photo of the water. I've been running the fter 24/7 for the last 48 hours and running the SWH 7-8 hours a day, but I have added liquid chlorine to being the ppm up to 5 for now. I am getting much less green tinge on the skimmer and vacuum socks, but...

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

@mknauss Interesting! Looks like my kit was shipped today, so hopefully I will see it in a few days and will start the process. In the meantime, I am running the SWG for 7 hours now and will retest my chlorine later today to make sure it stays in the 5ppm range. Is that where I should keep it...

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

@mknauss Does the excess chlorine during a SLAM cause bather skin/eye irritation, or green hair? Or is that actually caused by CC?
  22. P

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

So, didn't lose much FC overnight, but did lose a little, and CC is at zero? I am seeing some slightly green stuff on the skimmer sock and in the vacuum, so looks like I need to SLAM this pool when we get the test kit and can live without being in the pool for a while, right? No chance of...

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

Sorry if I sound completely ignorant, but if the water is clear, and we have chlorine in the pool whether from the SWG or adding liquid chlorine, will I still need to SLAM the pool? Thank you very much for all your comments, I appreciate the advice. I am bummed I bought this kit for $60, and...

Ugh, Crud. So, I need to get that test kit and we are probably screwed out of swimming this weekend?

I have also noticed a little green tinge to the skimmer sock, so there's that. :(

Can't hold TC or FC with a SWG?

@mknauss yes I planned on leaving the SWG off overnight and testing again in the morning to see how much FC I lose. The water has been fine, totally clear, but I did put the cover on it a few days ago (Sunday) and there seems to be more sediment at the bottom of the pool than I thought would be...
