DIY CO2 Injection for pH Control (not CircuPool or Poolsmith)

A few questions: 1) Are you piping the CO2 into the pool pump through the drain plugs like Circupool and Poolsmith? 2) If so, I noticed Circupool and Poolsmith systems have a second plumbing line for pressure and Circupool says their system cannot operate without the pressure line. How do you...

Running a 55K Gal SWCG at 75% just to maintain a 4.0 CL level in a 17K gal pool

I will check it again, but I have virtually no buildup of any kind on the plates. What little there was I was able to blow off.

Muriatic Acid not impacting pH as much as Pool Math says it should

That's the thing - no visible scale at all in the cell or on the pool tile. My CSI is typically well within range.

Muriatic Acid not impacting pH as much as Pool Math says it should

That's what I am thinking. It is very clean, barely ran last year (ran at 25% for a few hours per day). Worked with Discount Salt Pool - they will take it back and bench check it. Was trying to exhaust all other possible issues before sending it back. The overnight test was my final step -...

Muriatic Acid not impacting pH as much as Pool Math says it should

Would hardness on the higher side impact SWCG production? I have had to run it a lot more than last year. Last year 2 hours gave me plenty of production. Is 8.5 hours at 50% really too short to judge? That was overnight, so no burn off.

Muriatic Acid not impacting pH as much as Pool Math says it should

I think you got it - I had more borates in the water than I thought. Per the pool math app that would explain the smaller reduction. Not sure that explains my SWCG production though.

Muriatic Acid not impacting pH as much as Pool Math says it should

If anything it is smaller than I have it entered at given that I have not subtracted for my steps. 15x35 with 3' at the ends and 6' in the middle.

It can go higher. Combo on the numbers - I have found the store to be off on pH and Chlorine so I do those myself.

Muriatic Acid not impacting pH as much as Pool Math says it should

Okay - it happened again. Added the pool math recommended amount of Muriatic Acid to get it down to 7.2 from 8.1 and it only went to 7.5. Also, did an overnight test on my SWCG. Pool math says based on run time, run % and output of my cell I should have seen a 2.8 ppm gain in FC over the 8.5...

About how much chlorine does a SWCG generate?

What is the 8.34 in this formula? Is that just a constant or factor?

Muriatic Acid not impacting pH as much as Pool Math says it should

I am having an issue with my pool. For the past month, I have been putting in the recommended amount of muriatic acid and it is having only 40% of the projected effect. Similar issue with my SWCG - not having as much impact as it did last year. Could it be a TDS problem?

Running a 55K Gal SWCG at 75% just to maintain a 4.0 CL level in a 17K gal pool

I suppose you are right. Lots of burn off vs no burn off.

Running a 55K Gal SWCG at 75% just to maintain a 4.0 CL level in a 17K gal pool

Right. The clear solar definitely lets in the UV rays. I was just shocked that the 9x difference in SWCG demand could be due to a cover but I guess zero burn off vs high is the answer. Thank you for responding.

Running a 55K Gal SWCG at 75% just to maintain a 4.0 CL level in a 17K gal pool

Thank you for responding. CYA is 55. And I performed an OCLT and revealed no problems. I performed a SLAM anyway.

Running a 55K Gal SWCG at 75% just to maintain a 4.0 CL level in a 17K gal pool

last year I barely needed to run my SWCG at 25% for 2 hours per day and this year running it at 75% for 6 hours. So running it 9x as much to maintain the same level of chlorine. The only difference is that last year I had a solid gray solar cover and now have a clear one to produce more heat...

    Circupool Total balance

Ahh - that's the missing link. Thank you! So a Stenner pump is back in consideration.

    Circupool Total balance

But it will not rise beyond 91 from the fill right? If the fill is 91, then it shouldn't technically increase beyond that, right - or am I missing something?
  20. S

    Circupool Total balance

Ahh - no, don't think I said I don't add acid. I do, but just to bring the pH down. Obviously that reduces TA too, but yes, that climbs back with pool fill at 91ppm Alk. Want to go either Stenner pump or CO2 system to avoid both the need to manually add acid AND to maintain a more stable pH...

    Circupool Total balance

Why will my fill water increase my TA? TA in my pool is between 90-100. TA from my fill is 91. When I add acid the TA drops to 80ish and comes back up slowly with fill. I add acid only to decrease pH. I am fine with a TA of 90-100.
  22. S

    Circupool Total balance

Thank you and I appreciate your advice and feedback. My TA has been pretty steady 90-100 without acid. With fill water at 91 last I checked (will check again), seems like I can maintain that range without a problem if I went with the CO2 system. The CSI test in the math app would have me at...

    Circupool Total balance

pH is constantly rising - not significantly though, about 0.05 per day, but in a week that's 0.35, so it puts me out of range and I use acid to adjust down to 7.2 and start over. Alkalinity is fine - hangs out around 90 until I add acid, then drops to 80ish when I add acid. Fill water...

    Circupool Total balance

Hi Mike - thank you. You originally turned me onto CircuPool and I self installed their Core SWCG. My fill water is actually okay on pH and Alk (7.6 / 91). I thought a byproduct of a SWCG is rising pH?
  25. S

    Circupool Total balance

Did you go with the CircuPool Total Balance? I have a CircuPool SWCG and like it, but pH rise is constant as with all SWCGs. Thought this seemed easier than adding acid every week and yo-yoing the pH.
