New pool build in Spring, TX - Done...sort of

Yeah, their advice didn't sound right from the outset and thankfully this forum was here for me. Once the pool is done the PB definitely doesn't have your best interests at heart. It's been awesome being able to sit outside and use the backyard (somewhat). Did just get an update from the PB...

New pool build in Spring, TX - Done...sort of

So pool is complete... sort of. We had pool school last Monday and we went over the punch list. Our biggest issue is something we noticed when our landscape guy came out: the big seating area of the decking is not square (see pic below). A big thank you to this forum for making sure I held...

New pool owner, first test > no chlorine

Maintained my 14 FC level and did another OCLT. Only dropped .5! CC was 0. Water is looking super clear this morning too 😀 I presume I can let it get back to within FC range (3-10) on its own? Thanks again for everyone’s help!

New pool owner, first test > no chlorine

One last question: planning to go get Muriatic acid to lower pH, but what is the reason for lowering it? Isn’t my last reading of 7.5 within range? Thanks!

New pool owner, first test > no chlorine

So 20% of my CYA level (70 * 20% = 14) Using poolMath with that it says my Cl should be 3? My current Cl level is 5.5 so should I let it drop to 3? Sorry if I’m missing something simple. Thanks for your help!

New pool owner, first test > no chlorine

Plaster was installed March 17, so it’s been just about a month.

New pool owner, first test > no chlorine

Good morning, I did an OCLT (turned off SWCG, measured 30 min after my last chemical addition yesterday). Measured this morning, no direct sunlight on the pool yet. FC: 7 -> 5.5 CC: 0 pH: 7.5 TA: 100 CH: 100 CYA: 70 Looks like a drop of 1.5 FC means I have something in the water?

New pool owner, first test > no chlorine

I was following Woodys advice from the first reply to my thread (which was based on my mistaken reading of 0 CYA). From my lack of chlorine, it seems that I should still add some since the SWCG can’t get it above 0, right?

New pool owner, first test > no chlorine

Sorry, let me retrace my timeline because I think I messed it up a bit. After pool was filled, PB took care of the pool for 3 weeks. Other than seeing them come scrub and pour in bleach I don’t know what else they did. During that time they left a floater in the pool the entire time with 3...

New pool owner, first test > no chlorine

So after saying that I went back and tested CYA again. I think I got messed up by the fact that the cylinder was leaking yesterday so this time I filled it and tried to read it quickly before the water level dropped too much. Looks like I’m actually around 70 (though the bag of stabilizer I put...

New pool owner, first test > no chlorine

They had 3 pucks in a floater all the time while they were taking care of the pool.

New pool owner, first test > no chlorine

So I’ve added the calculated amount of stabilizer and am waiting to test CYA levels. A question that occurred to me is that the PB had been using trichlor tablets for the last three weeks (since pool was filled). Shouldn’t that have left some CYA in the pool?

New pool owner, first test > no chlorine

Thanks, sounds like I was right to not believe the PB. Will go get some CYA and liquid chlorine now.

New pool owner, first test > no chlorine

The pool was plastered on March 17, completely filled the 19th. They added salt for the first time on Monday, so that’s another point toward the PB not caring about my pool anymore…

New pool owner, first test > no chlorine

Pool school was this past Monday and the PB guys came out one last time on Tuesday to dump a bunch of salt. They had been using the trichlor puck in a floater, but that was removed on Tuesday. SWCG has been running since Monday, at 50% (IC40). Got my TF100 test kit recently so I decided to test...

New pool build in Spring, TX - Done...sort of

Pool’s been filled and we’re on our 2nd week of plaster startup. They’ve been out every few days to brush and check pool chemistry. Just got my TF-100 kit to in today so I can check their work 😀. Clean up crew came out last week to pick up trash and grading crew is finally out today to get all...

New pool build in Spring, TX - Done...sort of

Almost full (pool part, at least)! Moving the hose to the spa next and then PB will be here Monday to do the 1st of 9 visits for startup during next 3 weeks. Clean up and rough grade should also be done next week so that we can get a landscape designer out. So close!

New pool build in Spring, TX - Done...sort of

Fill day! Rest of the travertine came in early and the masonry guys finished it today while the plaster crew acid washed(?) the pebblesheen. Just waiting for the pool to fill up so they can clean up/final touches and tell me where the drains on the decking lead to…

New pool build in Spring, TX - Done...sort of

Spoke with our construction manager today - while most of the decking around our pool has been "travertined" (is that a word?), they ran out when they got to the big firepit/seating area. Turns out the rest of our travertine shipment is on a ship in the ocean somewhere and won't be here until...

New pool build in Spring, TX - Done...sort of

It's just the way our builder did it. In our case they are also mixing a concrete mixture on top of the concrete for the travertine to sit on, but the builder for my neighbor who is putting in a pool right now as well is doing what BigPapaSmurf's builder did: Concrete base > polymorphic sand >...

New pool build in Spring, TX - Done...sort of

Sorry it's been a while! I've commented this on other threads, but January and a lot of February was a wet muddy mess for our yard, so the decking contractors weren't able to have consistent weather to pour concrete. They finally poured near the end of February and the masonry crew has been out...

New Build - SE Houston Area - Adding Salt too soon to Pool

Now you're making me nervous, I haven't even looked through the tiles in the pallets. They were ordered at the end of last year and came in early January but other than a cursory look to see that it was indeed the right travertine I haven't examined them that closely (having to traverse the mud...

New Build - SE Houston Area - Adding Salt too soon to Pool

I'm jealous! We also chose Philadelphia for our decking and we've had 8 pallets of them just sitting at our house for weeks now waiting on the backyard to drain before they can come put the concrete down. Tired of the muddy swampy mess!

New pool build in Spring, TX - Done...sort of

Had a long pause while we put in change orders (didn't like the look of stamped concrete so we changed it to travertine instead, expanded the decking area and removed the step pads = $$$), the holidays, etc. This also resulted in a delay on the decking since the travertine we want needed to be...

New pool build in Spring, TX - Done...sort of

I guess I was just curious if this was a typical way to connect the autofill line. It just looks kind of janky and I’m concerned about it freezing (vs connecting to the main water line coming from the street which I guess would cost more). Not sure about the backflow valve requirement. I’ll ask...
