    Adding salt

Mine takes 5.5 lbs on a refill, I dump it in the bottom of the tub all at once after I fill it up. By the time the tub heats up and I come back and look, its dissolved.

    Saltron Mini Review

SWG are amazing in a hot tub. I have the Watkins Freshwater Salt system in my Caldera tub, and once i got the tub flushed with Ahhsome, it has been amazing( was having problems with chlorine demand initially due to dirty dirty pipes ).. If I didn't have the built in I would 100% go with the...

Bad smell after putting hands/arms in water

Ahhsome is great, but I wonder if this is just the effect of chlorine oxidizing your "dirty" arm a bit. Is 8-10 your chlorine level? Thats on the high side... If you are dosing with dichlor you might find yourself quickly with a high CYA level, I know I did when my tub was new. If you are...

“Normal” FCl loss during 24 hour period

Had the same issue with a brand new tub, def flush with Ahhsome as soon as you can. It made a dramatic difference in my chlorine consumption

New Hotsprings Limelight Pulse!! Salt, Chlorine, Bromine, or Ozone, Frog @ ease?!?!?! Can't decide!!

Yeah that is an option I considered, but wasn't sure if that might be hard on the cell or not. Couple more thoughts in case they help you. I have really soft water at my house, which also helps this system. For some reason( I'm not sure why ), they want Calcium hardness below 75, which is...

New Hotsprings Limelight Pulse!! Salt, Chlorine, Bromine, or Ozone, Frog @ ease?!?!?! Can't decide!!

No problem, not a fan of the cartridges being propriatary, but hoping they keep lasting. I don't have a lot of data to share, but I got 7 monhts on the previous one, and I am about 6 months into the current cartridge, and it is going strong. One note, the tell tale that the cartridge is...

New Hotsprings Limelight Pulse!! Salt, Chlorine, Bromine, or Ozone, Frog @ ease?!?!?! Can't decide!!

I hated my FreshWater salt system at first, until I flushed my tub with Ahhsome. I burnt up 2 cartridges in 3 months, because i was running the system on 100% output, and still supplementing with bleach. I thought the system was broken, but finally figured out my tub was just nasty. I found...

Total Dissolved Solids going up - Hot Springs salt system

This is really interesting. Now that I think about it, you may be right, the "salt level" measurement on the system is probably just a TDS one. I'm going to pay closer attention to how it moves with my TDS increase over a few months. If the original poster here has water with high TSD out of...

Total Dissolved Solids going up - Hot Springs salt system

I have a caldera with the same salt system, it sucked at first until I flushed the tub with ahhsome so it wasn't fighting biofilm. I don't think that is necessarily your issue. What your dealer is saying makes no sense to me. The on screen salt system measures the salt levels. Mine is fairly...

    Privacy Screen Ideas

I like your solution. I'd go ahead and plant some Emerald Green Arborvitae for the future, and use the cover for now. I looked at the corvana a bit, but i got to be honest, I like looking up into the sky a bit too much to want a roof permanently over my head. The umbrella does the trick for...

    Use tons of chlorine?

Clean it out with ahhsome, and its very likely your chlorine demand will go way down( if you have biofilm in the pipes ). My new tub had a lot of biofilm in the pipes that i struggled with about 3 months before finally cleaning it with ahhsome, and its been SOOO much easier to maintain ever since.

    Can I clean/refurbish/renew salt cartridge?

I responded to another post, but will add it here too. My cells that wore out started reading the salt level lower and lower until it crossed the low salt threshold and wouldn't' turn on. This is what I'm watching for to decide when to replace them. You can clean the cells, if they get a...

    Can I clean/refurbish/renew salt cartridge?

I'm debating this same thing, especially after the first 2 HotSprints/Caldera cells I had only lasted 6-8 weeks each. At the time I was running them at full power, but after getting biofilm under control(thank you ahhsome ) I was able to lower the output significantly. I've been running it on...

How quickly should FC go down?

Good call, I struggled with chlorine demand for nearly 3 months on my new hot tub before I finally purged with Ahhsome, and haven't had an issue in the 2 months since. It is particularly maddening when you are trying to get a salt water system up and running!

    high Ph won’t come down

I do the same thing. I actually have very low TA in my tap, and was increasing it to 80 per manufacturing recs. My PH would stay high, and I'd have to add muriatic acid every 2 or 3 days to keep it down. Gradually my TA has been driven down to about 40, and I find that my acid requirements...

Cartridge for Watkins( HotSprings/Caldera ) Freshwater Salt System went bad after 5 weeks

Interesting, I did use graular sodiium bisulfate. Maybe the phDown had did the cell in when I cleaned it, I think it did get worse after that. I was following some instructions I found in the dealer FAQ for the system...

Cartridge for Watkins( HotSprings/Caldera ) Freshwater Salt System went bad after 5 weeks

Thanks, I had cleaned them once with ph down as suggested in the dealer manual. I saw some mentions of vinegar but wasn't sure if i should dilute it or not. I'm crossing my fingers the current cell lasts at least the promised 4 months, it seems from the little info i can find on this that it...

Cartridge for Watkins( HotSprings/Caldera ) Freshwater Salt System went bad after 5 weeks

Thanks for the reply, it makes sense. I added 50ppm of borates early on, and find pH to be pretty stable. I keep it at 7.4, and it seems to creep up to around 7.6 once a week, then I'll add a dose of muriatic acid to correct. I did read something in a manual, may have been the dealer...

Cartridge for Watkins( HotSprings/Caldera ) Freshwater Salt System went bad after 5 weeks

Here is straight out of the manual. 75 is the top end of the calcium hardness, they actually recommend you soften it down if you are above that.

Cartridge for Watkins( HotSprings/Caldera ) Freshwater Salt System went bad after 5 weeks

I keep it pretty much on the specs recommended, 7.4 PH, 50 calcium hardness, and around 60 TA. CYA is around 30, used the dichol/bleach method when initially starting the system. Testing all these with a taylor test kit. The failure caused the system to read the salt as being too low, and was...

Cartridge for Watkins( HotSprings/Caldera ) Freshwater Salt System went bad after 5 weeks

I'm curious, have any of the folks with the Freshwater Salt System by Watkins had a cartridge go out early? My tub is only 6 weeks old, and after about 5 weeks, I started getting inactive/low status for my SWG on the tub. I checked all the recommended things( salt level, clean/degrease...

CYA or no CYA in spa with SWG?

Yeah, I can't measure it with my taylor kit either. I just measure out the amount of diclor needed to get toe 30ppm CYA from zero, and dose with it until it runs out on a fresh refil, and then switch to straight chlorine.

CYA or no CYA in spa with SWG?

I have a 350 gallon Caldera with the same freshwater salt system. I started using dichlor in a heavily used tub and realized after using over half the small bottle that my CYA was nearly 100 in just a couple weeks when I found this site. I drained and have been using the dichlor/bleach method...
