    Very Strange

Ice is a possibility. I'm usually pretty good about keeping the level low, but missed this year. Level was just below the tile line at one point and I had to chip through an inch or two of ice to get to the liquid to drop the level. It is possible, the ice was frozen around the plug and...

    Very Strange

Took the cover off the pool this past weekend. Found the usual leaf remnants, dirt/silt, one live Bullfrog, one dead Bullfrog, one dead mouse, a couple of salamanders and the plug from the Polaris booster pump on the bottom of the pool. I wouldn't normally think this was too odd, except for...

Water Temperature affect on pH level and danger

Hi all, just opened the pool this weekend in MetroWest Boston. Pool temperature was about 48, rising to mid-50s now. pH reading is well above 8.0. During the summer, I keep it in around 7.5 or so. I notice each year when I open the pool, pH is well above 8.0. Two questions: - what affect...

    Booster Pump Funny Noise/Surging

For those of you following at home.... After posting the pictures, I realized I never tried to isolate the issue further, but figured it must be the pump based on the sounds at the pump and the symptoms of surging observed at the crawler. I put the pump back together and after opening the pool...

    Booster Pump Funny Noise/Surging

I pulled the housing off today and didn't see anything amiss. I have halfheartedly tried to remove the impeller, but it didn't come loose, so I left it in place. The shaft seems to spin freely with no obvious binding. There is a bit of drag on it, when I spin it as fast as I can, it stops in...

    Booster Pump Funny Noise/Surging

Hi all, with the record warm temperatures we are having in the great NorthEast, I figure it is time to think about getting the pool open again! I have a Polaris 280 with the PB-4 booster pump, Installed in 2011. Controller turns the booster pump on for an hour each morning and boosts the main...

    Ecostar VSP Comm Error

Hi all, Hoping someone has troubleshooting suggestions for me. I have the exact same symptoms as DonM in: http://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/39279-EcoStar-3400VSP-Failure, but slightly different circumstances. We were away for a few days over the 4th of July and came back to the Circuit...

    Algae?

Finally got a puck and sho'nuff, the stains disappeared. posting.php?mode=reply&f=11&t=64118&sid=9fc2d577476771a423663396ad962b4a# I think what happened was that my filter was clogging up and, at the slower speeds I run the pump at, the pressure rise was not significant even though the flow...

    Algae?

The spots seem to have faded slightly today, but are still noticeable. I did put some AA in a sock and held it against a couple of the spots for about five minutes. No change occurred. I am stumped.

    Algae?

OCLT results: 4.0 last night, 4.0 this morning, CC: 0. Water is clear and sparkly. Seems like whatever it is, it is not organic.

    Algae?

Looked this morning and the water was clear. I do have a steel brush, just purchased for apparent calcium staining, and it does not move them at all. Went for a swim this evening and tried to scrape it with my my finger nail. I could not feel it and it did not move or come loose. The...

    Algae?

Third summer with the pool. A few strange issues this year (missing tiles, thrips, strange stains, algae?). I'll be posting in other topics, but want to get suggestions on the attached pictures. First set is obviously alage, but below the waterline, cleaned off easily and hasn't shown up...

    Missing Waterline Tile

It is hard to see on the picture, but the area on the right, that shows grey, is missing some concrete. On the back of that tile, the total thickness of the material was less than an inch, so it is not a lot, but it more than just the thinset. Me either posting.php?mode=quote&f=82&p=514646#...

    Missing Waterline Tile

Simple question. Pool was originally filled June 1st, 2011, so it is about 2 years old. Opened the pool this year and a number of the upper waterline tiles were loose, being held only by the caulk (I've pulled them off, since they kept get caught on the solar cover). Same thing happened first...

    Where did the CYA go?

Thanks Linen. I had not noticed that part of the calculator before. I should be in good shape now. Yes, when I read Duraleigh's comment, I read 'the bottom' as referring to his signature, not the bottom of the calculator! :hammer:

    Where did the CYA go?

I have. The calculator tells me to use 267 oz (by weight) of stabilizer. I'm assuming that is for straight stabilizer/conditioner. The piece I'm missing is what percentage of a tri-chlor puck is stabilizer? i.e. if I use 15 lbs of pucks, I'll get 6, 8, 12? lbs of stabilizer.
