    Installing a gas heater questions

Amazing, thank you, JamesW!! You are a wealth of knowledge. You're correct, checking with a magnet, they are steel pipes, my mistake. Yes, the dimensions I gave are OD. I don't have a caliper but they were approx. 1.25" and 1" OD with a ruler, but you're right, they weren't exactly 1.25" and...

    Installing a gas heater questions

Thank you. I will assure that the gas line is inspected by the contractor before work begins and have any needed updates done. I trust his qualifications. I'm trying to do my homework in advance so I know what questions to ask; this stuff is probably routine to him. I'd bet most homeowners...

    Installing a gas heater questions

The current gas meter has a CFM of 250. I've contacted the gas company about upgrading the gas service as 250 is likely too low. I don't have a pic of the regulator on the gas meter but it's stamped for 7" WC.

    Installing a gas heater questions

Thanks again for the help. Here is where I'm at.. The pool heater installer will pull permits. I tried to ask him about the gas line and meter sizing and sent him pictures, but his reply is along the lines of, "There was a pool heater installed previously, so what you have for the meter and...

    Installing a gas heater questions

Thank you so much, JamesW! This is all new to me and I love learning about it. I took a good look at the gas meter. Pic attached. Unless it's somehow built into the meter, I can't find a regulator before the meter. In the basement near where the meter line comes in, on the ceiling, there is a...

    Installing a gas heater questions

Thank you all for the help! I was referred my my pool contractor to another licensed contractor who specializes in pool heaters, outdoor gas feature installs, gas lines, etc. and will pull permits. He hasn't come out in person yet but thinks the clearances can be met based on some pictures I've...

    Installing a gas heater questions

Thank you! I'm thinking we'll go with a 250K BTU unit from Hayward. Is it typical for a pool contractor to pull permits for this? We have the gas line, but it seems an electrical permit is needed for an "appliance reconnect," similarly a mechanical permit is needed to install the appliance.. I...

    Installing a gas heater questions

Hello! We have a natural gas pipe already in place where a previous homeowner presumably had a heater. Pictures attached of the line and equipment in back of the house. Can the pool heater be put in front of the PVC pipes for the house furnace? This would be the closest to both the gas pipe...

    Installing new filter valve

Thanks again for the help. First I installed three female PVC screw-on unions. These were wrapped with Teflon then some Permatex #2 (which I picked up from Autozone). I let it dry for 24 hours. The filter sand looked low-ish, so I bought a 40 lbs. from the pool store. I capped off the center...

    Installing new filter valve

Hi all, I have a replacement valve, a Hayward SP0714T. I have a few questions about the install. 1. The valve came with an O-ring, I think which is for the bottom between the filter and valve (?). Does this need to be glued prior to installing and clamping the valve? If so, what type of glue...

    Cap size for filter drain?

Hello! The cap on my filter drain has cracked and is leaking. Any idea what size it is, and/or where to buy? The label from the filter is gone. It's a sand filter, Hayward equipment. Hoping it's a standard size someone might know. Pics attached. Thanks!
