    Cloudiness and biofilm at waterline

This is what he replied privately, and it appears he is correct. I kept running last night, wiping away and skimming the small chunks. After several rounds, the water cleared, and all the chemistry stayed where it was supposed to. “ No need to dump the water. Clarity will return within a...

Thanks. Sent him a PM, but haven’t heard back yet.

    Cloudiness and biofilm at waterline

I have a Hot Springs Grandee that is about a year old. I converted to saltwater seven months ago and did a purge with Ahhsome at that time. Then refilled. Hot Springs says to change the salt cells every three or four months, but most reports are that they last longer than that. I think mine...

Converted Hot Spring Grandee to Freshwater Salt System

Have been running the saltwater system at 8. I'm adding a bit of dichlor after heavy use, but maybe a teaspoon at a time. I'm not even sure that's needed. I was in there for about an hour the other night. 2 kids were in for 30 minutes and wife was in for 30 minutes. When we got in, chlorine...

Converted Hot Spring Grandee to Freshwater Salt System

This is my plan. So far, my bather load isn’t dropping free chlorine to unsafe levels, so I’m not dosing after use. But I’ll continue monitoring and will do so, as needed. I have very little cya, so I’m thinkingI need to turn down my SWG output a bit to add dichlor until it’s built up. Then...

Converted Hot Spring Grandee to Freshwater Salt System

I never dropped to lower than needed sanitation levels. I tested before use, after use and the following morning for the first few months, just making sure I knew how usage would affect my chlorine levels. I got it down to a science very quick doing that. My combined chloramines were...

Converted Hot Spring Grandee to Freshwater Salt System

I have had my hot tub about 6 months and was doing fine following the liquid chlorine dosing used here. Sometimes, though, the water had a strong smell, and I could never leave town for more than 5 days without having someone manually dose with chlorine while I was gone. Also, I had to dose...

    Refill and using Aqua Clarity/Ahhsome

I will say, after purging, draining, cleaning, refilling and balancing water, I’m about 8 hours In to get the water up to temp and chemistry pretty well balanced . Not overly difficult, but definitely time consuming. And that was using a sump pump to drain it. I’ll be converting to saltwater...

    Refill and using Aqua Clarity/Ahhsome

I’m about to say screw its and Jump in. It’s 100° now.

    Refill and using Aqua Clarity/Ahhsome

Maybe some residual Ahhsome. That could be it. I’m scooping it out with a fine net. I’ve added Dichlor, some pH Down, calcium hardness increaser and alkalinity increaser. That’s it. Water seems balanced very well.

    Refill and using Aqua Clarity/Ahhsome

I definitely have some foam with this fresh fill. pH is 7.6. CH is 100, FC is holding steady at 4. Alkalinity is 50. Aerating with everything in it and bring temp up. It’s at 95°right now. Hopefully, the foam dies down

    Refill and using Aqua Clarity/Ahhsome

I overshot calcium hardness last time and it was up over 225. I think I’m going to just get it up to you around 125-150 and see how it goes this time.

    Refill and using Aqua Clarity/Ahhsome

Not at all. I’m just now getting it back up to 90°, where I can start adding chemistry for start up. This is the Dichlor that I have. I felt like everything was off, and I had to get it in check after start up last time. Also tried to use the frog @ease system again last month when we went out...

    Refill and using Aqua Clarity/Ahhsome

I phrased that wrong. I overshot my calcium hardness on the last fill, and it took a while to get it back down. I know that has nothing to do with the itching. I also overshot on the CYA last time, and it finally got it back down to the 20–30 range, where it is supposed to be. I clean my...

    Refill and using Aqua Clarity/Ahhsome

Also, do you suggest just putting Dichlor granules in to get the chlorine initially stabilized, or would you use shock granules at startup?

    Refill and using Aqua Clarity/Ahhsome

I’ve had my hot tub about four months and used Ahhsome about a month into owning it. Figured it was about time for a refill and had time today. Also wanted to get some of my chemistry in better balance. My calcium was a little high and I’ve itched a little the last few times I’ve used the tub...

New Hot Tub Owner. Lot to Learn

I ran it uncovered for about 20 minutes tonight before getting in and the CC was back down to .5. So, apparently aerating does disseminate the CC’s. After this weekend, I’m probably going to purge again with Ahhsome and refill. Before then, I’ll decide if I’m definitely switching to...

The only thing that I’ve noticed is that I do have a small amount of CC since I got back. Does that go away on its own, or should I lower the pH or super chlorinate one more time to get rid of that?

So, even with saltwater system, I'll have to dose with bleach every time I use the tub?

Water temp was not turned down. I left it at 99 the entire week. I ran chlorine back up to 10 when I got home to make sure there was nothing growing in there. Water was, and is, perfectly clear. I just purged maybe 4 weeks ago.

So, a little feedback after my trip. Ran chlorine up to 16 right before I left a week ago last Friday. Had my neighbor check 5 days later and chlorine was down to 1.5. She added bleach to run it back up to 14-16 and I got home Sunday night. It was back down to 2 when I got home. So, no way...

Leaving at nearly 20 ppm with the cover closed, won’t cause any problems with bleaching out the shell, or messing up the headrests?

New Hot Tub Owner. Lot to Learn

I know it varies, but preparing for my trip, on average, with no usage and the cover on, with water temp set to 100°, hours much come drop can I expect over a week? If I bump it up to 12 before I leave, will that be enough to hold it at decent levels until I get home? Or higher? Or do I need...

New Hot Tub Owner. Lot to Learn

I will stop adding dichlor at 30ppm when I refill. Still learning, as the hot tub is only a few months old. I have a lot of splash out and fresh water refill because I have 3 kids in it most nights of the week. It's coming down...just slowly.

I am. Today was the weekly addition for maintenance. I was simply trying out the frog @ ease system again, because it’s a constant addition of chlorine with no cya , and something like that would put my mind at ease on a long trip. But one day and I was itching like crazy last night. Won’t be...

CYA is dropping. I have thought about draining and refilling again, just to get CYA exactly where it needs to be. It’s back down to right at 50 as of now. Should be back down to 30 within another three or four weeks, as it’s dropping by around 10 every 10-12 days or so.

I really wanted to use the frog for this, but put it in yesterday and then last night I itched like crazy. Had to coat my back with cortisone cream to go to bed. Added aqua clarity this morning and skimmed the froth off the top. Got in for 15-20 minutes before heading to the office and not...
