Considering FAFCO Solar Bear Panels and would love some advice

Update: I did buy the FAFCO Solar Bear Panels. We bought 2 for our 14,000 gallon pool, and I'm sure it's making a difference. It's been in the 80's all week, and we've maintained 82 and up. The last 2 days it's gotten up to 86. I don't think that happened at all last year other than a couple...

Considering FAFCO Solar Bear Panels and would love some advice

Just put up our Intex 16x32 ABG last year and realized right away that we would like to heat it this year. Besides for enjoyment, it is water therapy for our seven year old daughter who doesn't take the cold very well and would definitely benefit from being able to swim earlier and later in the...

    Pool heater

Thank you so much for your quick response. My boyfriend is very handy. We have a 16x32 Intex that we put up and leveled ourselves, mostly him lol. We are in Iowa and are hoping to add a month to the front and the back. That would be amazing. I'm wondering if I should consider 2 panels? Still...

Terrible water at opening and SLAM

Thank you! This is exactly what I needed to know. And yes, there's a huge organic issue. Our fault and it won't happen again lol. What do you think? Every couple of hours?

Terrible water at opening and SLAM

New pool owners last year and we did not get it covered soon enough or well enough for winter. The water is UGLY. We have gotten all the big stuff out that we can and are running our robot and sand filter. We started to attempt a SLAM yesterday with a CYA of about 35. We have a 14,000 gal above...

I totally did, but nothing came up, which I thought was strange. Maybe they're just called something else...

    Filterballs? Anyone tried them?

An ad just popped up on my Facebook for Filterballs at Walmart. They replace sand, are lighter, and filter down to 5 microns according to the description. We’ve used similar in our fish tanks, so I get the concept, but just curious how well they work...

Using creek to fill pool and chemicals needed

Thank you! Finally passed the OCLT this morning! Missed my alarm the other morning when we tried. When you look at this pool, it is crazy to know that we started out with brown/green creek water and are now crystal clear with nothing but chlorine and CYA added during that nearly 4 WEEK LONG...

Could low CYA be affecting my SLAM?

When we tested before starting the SLAM, it was 30, but I never really thought that was correct because we added it when half full using that volume with a target of 30 for the SLAM. Are you saying I should target 40-50 during SLAM or after? I was thinking 70-80 after we are done SLAM'ing.

Using creek to fill pool and chemicals needed

We are finally almost ready for this step and will be doing the OCLT tonight. Can we add salt and CYA at the same time? Also, if anything else needs adjusted, like pH, can we do that at the same time as well? How long will it take to dissolve the salt? I ask because I don't want to run the robot...

Could low CYA be affecting my SLAM?

Discovered some algae where the ladder sits and along the seams last night. Brushed it up, and we are clearer than we have ever been this morning. Planning on running the OCLT tonight. I have a feeling we won't quite pass, but I'm dying to know after somewhere near 3-4 weeks of SLAM'ing, partly...

Could low CYA be affecting my SLAM?

We are finally getting clearer every day, thanks mostly to Rosie the Dolphin E10 robot. At this point, we are fairly blue, but kind of milky/cloudy. Any tests worth running to make sure we don't have another problem, or just keep SLAM'ing? Have not performed the OCLT yet, but are typically only...

Robot or Automatic Cleaner for 16x32 Intex AGP?

We ended up with the Dolphin E10. We have both a suction type that hooks to our intake and also a stand alone vaccuum that was given to us. I REALLY didn't want to spend the $$ on the robot, but am SO glad I did. We are still SLAM'ing from our creek water fill and had pretty much stopped getting...

Could low CYA be affecting my SLAM?

Thank you! I'm sure we are still losing FC overnight, so you're right. We are close, though. Thank God! We've been SLAM'ing for 2 weeks as of tomorrow. I think the difficulty in brushing and vacuuming this beast of an AGP was holding us back. Thanks for the info on the test. I'll have to pay...

Could low CYA be affecting my SLAM?

Thanks to the Dolphin E10, we can finally see the bottom of the pool! Next question: just how clear before doing the OCLT? Are we talking beautiful blue? We are still green. Also, while I have your ear, when adding the powder for the FAS-DPD test, just how precise should the powder be. I ask...

    Fire pits and pools

Ours will probably be about 12-14 feet away, BUT from a vinyl above ground. It didn't dawn on me until recently that it could be a problem. I guess we will have to come up with some type of screen to put over it in case the wind picks up or something. Otherwise, I think it will be OK.

Is it actually wood burning, or made to look like it is? If it is, do you have any trouble with ash or embers?

Could low CYA be affecting my SLAM?

Perfect. Thank you! I started second guessing that maybe I had done something wrong and didn't want to find out later. From all I've read, I didn't think low CYA would affect it, but wanted to ask to be sure. I did order a Dolphin E10 today. Hopefully that will help, and if not, we need...

Could low CYA be affecting my SLAM?

Filled our 16x32 Intex AGP from our creek and began SLAM 5 days ago. I would say there is probably progress, but the water is still quite green. I think it lost most of it's brownish color. I completely understand this may take awhile with the creek water and all, but could my CYA being too low...

Pool almost full. I don't THINK I need to slam...advice?

I mean, it looked great coming in, but obviously was not, judging from the brown water we are sucking up from the bottom. From the top it just looks kind of green and you can see down a couple of feet (but blurry). I think at this point, we just have to brush, brush, vaccuum, vaccuum, because...

Pool almost full. I don't THINK I need to slam...advice?

Makes perfect sense. We will just try not to wait to refill until it gets that low. So, we do run the water from the creek through the sand filter first and then through a duda. Do you think it needs more? I mean, more is better, but not sure how to add anything else. I do think if I could've...

Pool almost full. I don't THINK I need to slam...advice?

I figured as much about the test strips, but was having trouble finding a good test kit that wasn't crazy expensive. I don't really NEED to know, I guess. I have no problem filling from the creek and would rather not stress the well pump anyway. I just wanted to confirm that the well should not...

Robot or Automatic Cleaner for 16x32 Intex AGP?

Good afternoon! Hoping for some input on robots vs automatic pool cleaner (suction type). We have an Intex 16x32 Intex AGP - rectangular. If we went with a robot, it would need to be on the lower end ($300 or less). What are the advantages to the robot for the extra $$? Our pump is .6 hp, so...

    Filled pool with pond water

We JUST filled out 16x32 Intex from our creek. Used a sump pump, ran directly into the sand filter, and then through a Duda filter as it was coming in. We started both chlorine and CYA after we were about half full. A couple things you can learn from me: Spend some extra $$ on 1 1/2” hose. We...
