Filled pool with pond water

It seems the water delivery people can't get their big rig trucks into my driveway. So I'm considering a Harbor Frieght pump and a bunch of hose to get it out of the pond/spring in my front yard. There MIGHT be iron in the water from the spring, but most of it is rainwater run off. I have already stocked up on bleach (used the BBB method in our last pool). I also have the other 2 B's ready. I have the Taylor test kit, just like last time. I will try and get some screen to prefilter as much as possible, and one guy in a few threads said he ran the water directly into his pump.....which I have a sand filter system.

I have an Intex 26 x 52, with all the standard filter system except I added a Hayward skimmer like we did on the last pool.

Seems like it will take a lot of work to clear it up but can’t be worse than when I opened mine yesterday. Looked like a pond. I’d keep the suction hose several feet from the bottom so you don’t get the really nasty stuff.

Is your signature your old pool? If so please change it over to your new pool. THANKS!

I would take some of that spring water to a pool store to test for metals so we can be ready IF you do have some.

You can do a couple of things to filter your water:
-run straight into your filter like you said
-put some socks over the end of the hose to help filter any thing out. You will have to change them quite often I bet.
-Fill a five gallon bucket with poly fill like you would fill a pillow with. Run the hose in to the bucket so the water has to run threw the poly fill. You may have to cut a hole in the lower side of the bucket to make this work.

OR do all three LOL I bet that would get all of the yucky stuff out!!!

We JUST filled out 16x32 Intex from our creek. Used a sump pump, ran directly into the sand filter, and then through a Duda filter as it was coming in. We started both chlorine and CYA after we were about half full. A couple things you can learn from me:
Spend some extra $$ on 1 1/2” hose. We started with a garden hose and got 3 times as much from the 1 1/2” - we’d still be filling if we hadn’t switched lol. We found black discharge hose at Farm and Fleet for $7.99/25 ft.

Filter ALOT

Backwash ALOT - I know too much can be bad, but definitely as often as reasonable.

If possible, start vacuuming and brushing as soon as reasonable. Our water is still pretty cloudy on day 3 of SLAM level, and when we finally got a proper vacuum running we are sucking up a ton of yuck from the bottom that you’d never know was there. I’m assuming this is our problem because we are losing very little chlorine until we vacuum or brush.

I’m no expert. We are brand new pool owners, but I’ll be happy to answer any questions about filling this way. I have to say, it was pretty cool knowing we got virtually free water and that during this horrible flood in Iowa, we kept 14,000 gallons from ending up down the road in someone’s field.

Well the water guy ended up being able to get his truck in the drive after all. Helps if you actually come look instead of using Google maps....any way, now that it IS filled, one side has sunk down....OY! This pool. So much for finding a good deal.

It is at least 6 inches out. I've seen some videos of people lifting with straps and such to put blocks under the legs, but I'm not sure I want to do that ....ideas? I did everything with a level before setting it up and I was pretty sure it was level. the water has shown me how level it is not.

And before you say drain the pool, level the ground, and do it all over again....now we're talking some big bucks to just throw away.
