When can I open inground pool

In NW VA. We closed last year mid October with 60 degree water temp. Opened yesterday, 56 degree water and this is what it looks like today. 8 1/2 foot deep end and wind rippling the surface.

What is the best underwater camera?

I like the gopro because my snorkel has a mount and I can swim around and video. The resolution is very good combined with a TFP clear pool it's easy to go back and watch the video and inspect my plaster.

First time at TFP, First Pool, First Problem

Luckily I found this place near the end of my build. They didn't insert the mineral cartridge because the plaster had to cure so I never installed it. I just left the blank cap in place. I get questions all the time about how my pool is so clear without the use of algecides and all the other...

    Nub on a mission

@LoneWolfArcher, thanks for the double check, I went back and redid the math and came up close to the same number as you 21200. I missed a step hence my lower number. I love this website.

First time at TFP, First Pool, First Problem

Jim, I also have a Nature 2/SWG combo unit and with the advice of the experts here I didn't install the mineral cartridge because it puts copper in the water which can create a host of other problems. IMHO, I would stop using the mineral cartridge asap. Can one of the experts weigh in on that?

    Nub on a mission

Smiley, welcome back! If I read your first post correctly, I think you might be overestimating how much water is in your pool. That will affect how much LC and other chems you need to use. By my calculations, a 30' round by 4' deep comes out to about 16,700 gallons. The math wizards on here can...

Thanks for the insight. Our pool is still relatively new and I'm still trying learn more ways to cut down my maintenance time so I can spend more time enjoying the pool.

Is it necessary to backwash a DE filter every 30 days?

Thanks @cowboycasey What is the reasoning behind using a 25% increase?

Is it necessary to backwash a DE filter every 30 days?

My PB recommends every 30 days or 25 psi whichever comes first. With fresh DE in the filter, my pressure is 18 psi and after 35 days my pressure is just under 20 psi. It seems to me that it's a waste of DE and water to backwash for less than a 2 psi increase. Is there a scientific or safety...

Adding MA every day or get a dosing pump.

Thanks Chris. I’m going to research this. We have dogs that get in the pool quite alot so that is another consideration.

Your build: What would you do differently?

Our pool was completed in the beginning of April 2019. While the water was to cold to swim and had to wait for the plaster to cure, we would sit out by the pool in the evenings and realized that we should have installed lighting for the waterfall, duh. :( While it's not the end of the world, it...

    Kids are brutally honest

My niece was over swimming yesterday and she is a little fish. She swims in several different pools, community, swim lessons, friends, etc. She is learning how to snorkel and she pops out of the water and declares, "this is the clearest pool I have ever seen!" My SIL says, "they work hard at...

Polaris TR36P sucking up it's tail

Thanks Allen. I didn't even consider a suction side air leak because the cleaner is on the pressure side. Definitely makes sense. I'll start checking out the spots the article discusses.

Polaris TR36P sucking up it's tail

I have a gauge near the valve that opens to provide pressure to the cleaner. It starts to lean forward on the front right wheel and the tail whips under the cleaner and gets sucked up. I have run it as low as 10 psi and it still happens. What has me perplexed is that nothing has changed with...

Polaris TR36P sucking up it's tail

My TR36P is 2 months old (new pool, equipment, etc) and it is sucking up it's tail. The PB told me to run the pressure at 15 psi which what I've been doing. We usually run it about 2 hours every other day or depending on how much debris is on the bottom. It was working perfectly until about 2...

    Hello TFP. New pool/owner

Thanks. Will do. I got nervous and added bleach because the FC was low and we're supposed to get 2"+ inches of rain tonight and had a heavy swim load this past weekend. So looking forward to running the SWCG.
