    Slamming for 32 days

I switched to sand on a recommendation from a friend who runs a pool service. I’m good at chemistry and cleaning, but maintaining my filters and other equipment is proving to be my weakest point. I also live in a very agricultural town with lots of harvest dust and the like. He said that, since...

    Slamming for 32 days

Ok. Now that I am fully on the right track and know how to use DE in my sand filter, I feel like I’m back into the swing of maintaining my pool. Switching from cartridges to sand this summer has been a real learning curve, but I was just telling my wife that this group of folks has some of the...

    Slamming for 32 days

Hit 20psi. Backwashed. From how I’m reading, I washed and rinsed all the DE out, so now I add DE again and repeat until my water is clear. Is that correct?

    Slamming for 32 days

Second update: brushed this morning. Waited about an hour. Logged filter pressure at 10psi. Added 1/4 cup DE powder dissolved in a gallon of water via skimmer. Pressure went up to 11psi in 2 minutes, and is now at 15psi about 20 minutes after adding. If it gets to 20, I’m going to backwash...

    Slamming for 32 days

Update: Added cya to get level to 30. Will test in 24 hrs and adjust slam FC levels appropriately. Hopefully, I’m on the tail end, since I’m already passing OCLT and CC is within range.

    Slamming for 32 days

All tests except the CYA a month ago are the Taylor K2006 kit at home.

    Slamming for 32 days

Measured at pool store because it was reading lower than 30. But that’s the only test from the pool store and I figured since sun isn’t much of an issue for my pool this month, I’d be ok. Haven’t been regularly testing anything but FC/CC since slam started, which is why CYA test is a month old...

    Slamming for 32 days

Let my pool go. Bringing it back but the SLAM process that has worked for me in the past is proving to either take longer or I have a filter issue. Switched to Sand filter in the Summer, so filter and sand are about 6 months old. Pool went to blue cloudy after a few days, but it’s still cloudy...

    Test readings not making sense

Thanks. Then I guess I just have weak chlorine. I miss the days when I could buy 12 gallons of bleach at a time...

    Test readings not making sense

Hey, tfp! I moved into my current house a little over a year ago, and inherited my wonderful pool. Found this community after doing tons of research, and have followed these methods ever since. All my pool and kit details should be in my signature, and my pool math entries are public, so I...

    Naturally rising pH?

Just added acid to lower pH to 7.2. Hopefully 4 days of jets running 8 hrs a day is enough aeration to bring it back up to swimable by Friday.

    Naturally rising pH?

Thanks for the heads up about needing to lower pH and that being normal. To answer your questions: No spill over features. My returns are pointed up, so that contributes to aeration. I will drop the TA. Thanks for that. Never have measured my fill water. I’ll do that when I get back, along...

    Naturally rising pH?

By the way. All my logs are shared, so you can see them.

    Naturally rising pH?

Hey all. I have a pebbletec, 27k gallon pool, cartridge filter. When I moved in in February, it was my first pool, and a friend of mine who works in the pool industry recommended and helped me install an inline tab feeder. After following this website for a few months, I decided eleven days...

    Pentair Rainbow 320

By the way. Chlorine levels are slightly high because I added 2 gallons liquid chlorine the day before test. It should drop this weekend as the weather is supposed to heat up in Modesto, CA

    Pentair Rainbow 320

Hey, all. Just bought a new house, first time Pool owner. 33,000 gallons, pebbletec, don’t know much about the pump (I have a secondary pump for my Polaris 380 as well as the primary). Put in a brand new Pentair 520 plus cartilage filter. Water looks clear, my Taylor k-2006 results from two...
