Film on water under auto cover

Could be. It definitely looks a bit like oil. Not sure what the smell is though. I feel like I need to somehow clean/scrub the bottom of the cover, but I’m not quite sure how to do that. Break out the scuba gear? 😉

Film on water under auto cover

I had that thought. It is also sometimes accompanied by a turpentine-like smell. I haven’t found any reference to that — not sure whether is it some algae thing or possible as you said the cover reacting to the chlorine.

    SWCG Tripping Breaker?

Thanks for the replies about the Siemens breaker. Swapped out what i had for one of those and haven’t seen a trip since.

Film on water under auto cover

My pool for the most part has been very clean and clear thanks to following the TFP way, however I have noticed that whenever I open the cover, there is a film on the surface of the water that looks like it could be algae (or something else?). I tried to capture it in some pictures. It goes away...

    SWCG Tripping Breaker?

The breaker is GFCI. I was mistaken though — it’s 20 amps. (Two 20 amps together — forgot about it being 220v). Is there a good way to stop the vsp from tripping the GFCI? Or do I just replace it with a non GFCI?

    SWCG Tripping Breaker?

I have recently started having an issue where the breaker that feeds my main pump and my SWGC (through a relay on my AquaLink automation) keeps getting tripped at random times. I haven’t been able to identify a particular event that triggers it. I did just recently replace my single sleep pump...

Most effective way to have some peace and quiet

So glad you made this recommendation. Finally got my V-Green VS motor (was backordered for ~6 weeks thanks to COVID), and installed it the other day. A little over an hour of work (on probably the hottest day of the year, of course), and I finally have bliss! Even at the speed that gives me...

    WaterGuru Sense Test v. TF-100

Did you happen to compare the FC reading to your taylor kit? I agree that the pH seems to be right on, but it is consistently showing ~1.5ppm lower than what I get using the FAS/DPD test (which I think should be pretty accurate). I guess if it stays consistent, I can just add 1.5, but makes we...

    WaterGuru Sense Test v. TF-100

I just got mine a week ago, and am still a bit up in the air about it. With and SWG and auto cover, and not using the pool daily, it has been a struggle to keep my FC at good levels (constantly adjusting the SWG output depending on my usage, and needing to test daily), so I am hopeful that this...

    Automation - Century V-green 270, Aqualink RS4, pool/spa ---> iAqualink Wi-Fi control

I am looking for the best way to get this set up. I have the v-green 270 on order (backordered until mid-july everywhere). Can you share how you set it up with the automation adaptor? Do you find that it is good enough? Before I drop the extra $200 on the adaptor, I want to be sure it does...

Most effective way to have some peace and quiet

Makes sense. I think I want to go this way. So given my current pump is 1.25 HP, does it make sense to go with a 1.65hp VSP or a 2.7 run at lower speed? I guess either way I would replace the impeller as well. Obviously there is a cost differential ($400 vs $800), but assuming the lower...

Looks like they do! That is way better than replacing the whole thing!

Most effective way to have some peace and quiet

Any idea what I would expect to pay for a 3HP VSP + installation in the new york area? My builder is quoting me $2800, which seems high. But I don't know. How involved is it to do myself? I am generally pretty handy with mechanical/electrical stuff, but haven't actually done something like this.

Most effective way to have some peace and quiet

I had thought about doing something like that (or just something around the pump). But am more leaning towards the VSP now.

Hayward interface with Jandy Aqua Link?

I know this is a super old thread, but I bought/installed the Chlorinator-Translator to connect my AquaLink RS to a Hayward SWG and it works like a charm. Thanks for the post!

Yes, this as well! ConEd will give me $400 to install a VS pump.

Most effective way to have some peace and quiet

I have a 10x40 ft patio on the side of the pool, and then the pump is about 6 ft beyond that (behind some shrubs that do nothing as far as sound goes). It basically makes it so half of my 10x40 patio on the side of the pool is too noisy to really relax while it's on. Definitely sounds like the...

Most effective way to have some peace and quiet

I've got five of them around, but the pump still bugs me. ;) Agreed the discussion was off topic a bit, but I always enjoy these threads. I am interested in the power savings as well. As far as the builder, I wouldn't want to be forced into the more expensive choice or something done...

Most effective way to have some peace and quiet

I sort of agree. I wish I had done more homework and known to ask for it, but it didn’t even come up as an option. They just said here’s what you need. It doesn’t make sense to skimp on a few hundred $$$ up front — and it’s not like they were saving themselves money. They just passed on the cost...

Most effective way to have some peace and quiet

Thanks. That was definitely my thought process. Is it possible to just replace the motor, or would I have to replace the entire pump?

Most effective way to have some peace and quiet

I just put in a pool last summer, and love everything about it except that the pool pump is about 6 feet from the patio where we want to sit and relax. I am looking for the best long term solution to make my poolside experience more enjoyable (with maybe some other benefits). One solution...

Turpentine Smell and Film on water

CC is 0. I haven’t ever seen anything other than 0 (or at least less than 0.5). I wondered about that, but it seems to be connected (in timing) to the appearance of the film I see on the water (and sometimes something that looks a bit foamy for a few seconds right when I open it). Also, the...

I’m not using a cover pump. Is this more likely an inorganic source like that, or some organic thing?

Turpentine Smell and Film on water

I have an autocover, and noticed recently that when I open it, there is a film over parts of the water. It clears pretty quickly (goes into the skimmers), but comes back every time I close/open the cover. Seems like maybe something on the bottom of the cover. I have also noticed a faint...
