    UV light with SWG?

Thank you for the replies. For the search function I wasn't able to find many results with both SWG and UV. What I now know is the main concern is UV breaking down the chlorine and making the swg work more. My thought would be install uv upstream before the swg. While not indoors my pool in a...

Anyone with long term experience with SIMPL-CHLOR SWG?

I'm finding these for less than $100. Up to 20k gallon they are for above ground pools, hook up to return. I have an above-ground in-the-ground doughboy, so I be able to make it work. Tried googling for reviews and info, not much out there for long term ownership. Looks like bare bones, no...

    UV light with SWG?

Howdy folks I've been enjoying the 10k gallon chlorine for the last several years. This year it seemed like I had a harder time keeping the water up and I swear I used a lot more chlorine. Probably just me and my slammed summer schedule. I've decided I want to go Saltwater this winter. I'm a...

Upgraded to a bigger cartridge, WOW!

Just thought I'd share my recent experience. I've been using a 3/4 hp pump for the last 2 seasons. My original filter was a hayward 74 sqft cartidge. It was a cheap garage sale find. This year after start up I just couldn't get my head pressure down, it runs 20 psi after cleaning. I picked up a...

    Refridge & Kegerator

You can find the nostalgia kegerator between $300-400, needs some tweeks but a good starting point. I have 34F Liveoak heff in mine right now. The danby costs more but a better set up. Keg vs bottled beer saves $50-$100 each keg, pays for itself in the first year.

CURIOUS - has anyone tried to bury intex Ultra Frame pool

Re: CURIOUS - has anyone tried to bury intex Ultra Frame poo My friend has a partially buried intex, the rectangular one. He did it about 5 yrs ago, its still standing. I believe the backfill isn't completely against the pool walls, maybe a 1-2' airgap. He has a deck around it making up the...

    Putting Greens

I've been trying with bermuda. I did washer holes 21' apart with 4" cups. Cutting it with a push reel mower set super low 3 times a week. Still not low enough. Using electric hedge trimmers I can get the grass lower but its not golf course quality...yet. Makes for a fun little chipping spot.

Fire Pits - I'd like to build one that can burn wood or Gas

Re: Fire Pits - I'd like to build one that can burn wood or On my recent fireplace build I brought a 1/2" steel tee just above the firebrick, with a 3" nipple and cap on each end. drilled 4x 3/32" holes total. I drilled the holes facing horizontal to project the flame towards the front of the...

    Intex 16'x48" Tips or Tricks

The intex is a great pool, 16x48 was my first too. Keep in mind the water level is about 42". You might consider the 54" wall height for a 48" water height. You can dig a little deep end, if memory serves me I did 10' diameter x 8" without issue. The intex liner doesnt really stretch much but...

Attention all first time pool owners!

This site is the main reason i have a pool. My wife's idea, 2 yrs ago I tried my 1st season with a "practice pool" intek to see if I could actually keep a pool clean. I was skeptical because a close friend had battled his for several years with pool store advice and a new problem every other...

    Can I run TWO filters?

You can add some DE to your sand for a little finer filtration. 2 filters will extend the time between back washing, cut some head pressure but I think the particle size of the filtration will remain the same.

Winter deck replacement to composite, adding fireplace

The benefit of going with 16' width was being able to use full 16' boards with zero waste. Maybe not the best Idea but I did this project with out blueprints or drawings, mostly because I've been planing this in my head for a long time. I went with french doors to the stairs, I wanted big...

Winter deck replacement to composite, adding fireplace

If I remember correctly there are 13 posts now, all about 3' deep. Before we finished the framing a trenched a gray water french drain from the kids bathtub to help my trees. 2 kids a bath a night, 300 gallons a week I was giving back to city! After framing but before decking I put down 12x...

Winter deck replacement to composite, adding fireplace

Here are some pictures of my deck rebuild. I removed a 20+ year old deck and started over from scratch. Wish I'd taken a few more pictures. I started the fireplace before demoing the old deck. This was easiest for me to know it was in the right spot. Original deck was 16x16, I went with 16x18 to...

Composite/PVC decking (semi-ingr.)...what brands are best?

Re: Composite/PVC decking (semi-ingr.)...what brands are bes I used Guardian composite for my deck. Their cedar color is a nice light brown that hopefully won't get too hot. I recommend using the camo tool hidden fastener method. The boards are toe nailed in, no visible deck screws, boards...

A unique idea? (Dane's pool thermometer)

Made my own skimmer thermometer Same idea as the Jandy one I saw for sale. I found this industrial stainless temp probe on ebay, 5" dial, 120f max with a 12" probe. After shipping I think I paid less than $30 for it. I did need to drill a tiny hole in my skimmer basket b/c its a tad too long...

Anyone have problems with Composite Decking like Trex?

Good to hear good experiences. The vague info I saw seemed a bit sketchy, and I think people with failures might have had improper installation techniques. What I didn't like seeing today at the depot was huge stack of trex all of which were wavy. I'm thinking the half point of not wood is so I...

    Glass fire pits?

I'm not sure if the glass is different than "normal" glass, but our city recycling program gives away crushed glass people can use in "landscaping" projects. Again maybe firepit glass needs to be pyrex or something different.
