    IC40 replacement

I need to replace my IC40. It's well past it's 10,000 hour lifetime, isn't generating much Cl, and requires cleaning every week. (Ca level is moderately high so I do have to clean it more frequently but usually only every month or 2.) Last time I replaced it, it cost under $600. Now it is $1100...

    Hot Springs MotoMassage repair

I've got to believe that others have had this problem. We have 2 Hot Spring spas (same model) in our primary and vacation houses. One is 12 years old and the other is about 8. Both have been incredibly reliable and virtually trouble free. I noticed recently that the fancy oscillating massage...

    Poolmath app bug?

If I don’t enter a test result (e.g., I don’t do Ca hardness everyday) Poolmath shows me the results of a previous test. In my case, it shows a result from a month ago, not the most recent test which was 5 days ago. Is this a bug? If so, it means that the CSI calculations are off.

Numbers for salt pool with automatic cover

For all the terrific information on TFP about water balancing, I’ve never seen anything that addresses the differences a cover makes on a salt pool. Our pool is almost an indoor pool (I.e., covered) except for a couple of hours in the afternoon if it is in use. (Keeping it covered keeps the heat...

    WaterGuru skimmer cover

Our pool has a nice finished concrete deck and the skimmer cover is also concrete. Evidently, the skimmer came with a plastic form which the builder filled with the same concrete. (It wasn't just a mold; the thin edge of the plastic form remains around the concrete.) Replacing this cover with...

    WaterGuru integration

I'm slowly building the capability to monitor the systems our house and I've built a web dashboard that allows me to see if there any problems that need attention. The one system that is really opaque is the pool. I've been looking at the WaterGuru hardware but it seems to be completely closed...

How to handle newly refilled pool over winter

We just fixed a catastrophic leak in our pool that drained it dry. (I wrote about the cause in another thread and it proved to be an easy to fix with no impact on anything really. The only real casualty was a leaky pump seal due to it running with minimal water for many hours. Any easy fix I’ve...

Can I run my pumps with the water level below the skimmer?

In the process of filling my pool. My skimmer has 2 holes and I understand one goes to the pump and the other to the main drain. From my understanding, if the water level is below the skimmer, I can’t user the pumps since pulling from the main drain requires the water to go to the skimmer first...

What does it take to kill a pump?

Our pool sprung a massive leak and drained itself dry while we were away. When I got home I found the empty pool and our Pentair Versaflo pump running. The leak is fixed and I'm having water delivered. What is the chance that the pump will still be ok? As my wife pointed out, at least it didn't...

Came home to find an empty pool (Updated: Diagnosis and cure at end)

We have a 20,000 gal in ground concrete/gunnite pool. Just before I left on sunday, I checked the pool chemistry and everything looked fine. Got back on Thursday and the pool was empty. Bone dry. A couple minor signs of dampness in the meadow below the pool but other than that, no sign of where...

Repair vs replace hot spring spa heater

Our hot spring spa has developed a slow leak (it needs water every week or so). I pulled the access panel off for the first time in about 5 years and found the leak at the turn around end of the heater. The leak has been going on for a while and there are a lot of mineral deposits in the area of...

Chlorine resistant algae or something else?

We have a 10 year old concrete/plaster pool with a Pentair chlorine generator and automatic cover. For the first 9 years, it was virtually maintenance free. (Acid once a week was about it.) Because it was covered 90% of the time, I didn’t use CYA but monitored the chlorine carefully. This...
