    Opening Swamp, TFP, No Problem

Good ideas! Thanks! I hadn’t thought of trying something (T-shirt, maybe even pantyhose) around the net. Luckily the wife hates pantyhose, so I’m sure she will volunteer those as tributes ?

    Opening Swamp, TFP, No Problem

Ok, so everything has been going fine. Except..... I had some contractors in that enlarged our back patio and put on a nice, styrofoam insulated, patio roof. For some reason, they decided to cut the roofing panels upwind from the pool, putting a really nice layer of styrofoam dust in the pool...

    Opening Swamp, TFP, No Problem

Thanks. That’s what I was thinking. Let the water warm, monitor/ keep FC in range, and see where everything else goes in the meantime. I gotta say, I was shocked by how fast the algae was gone. I stocked up on 10% thinking I was going to have to SLAM for at least a week. Nope, 3 days, and I...

    Opening Swamp, TFP, No Problem

Hey everyone, So I left our pool uncovered over the winter because we don’t have any trees nearby, so leaves aren’t an issue. However, I did disconnect (literally had to cut the pipes, yes, it was HARD plumbed) the pump/filter as they were hard plumbed, and I wanted the pool to not overflow...

    DPD powder

I think I remember reading somewhere that you can clean it with bleach. But I might be mistaken.

    FC and the sun

So I forgot to test around lunchtime, we were floating around, enjoying a sunny Alabama day. Just tested my FC....twice....6 both times. I lost .5 all day. Even rechecked my CYA just to be extra sure, still dead on 40. I guess I’m doing it right, loving this TFP!

PH doesnt seem to want to lower

The ph results aren’t valid with a FC above 10, which is why you want to get your ph right before starting a SLAM. You won’t have reliable test results for ph until your FC falls below 10. edit, anything between 7-8 is ok for a SLAM, I believe. Let the ph ride until you finish the SLAM.

    WANTED: New Wife!

Was shopping at Sam’s Club Friday and they had a HUGE Pink Flamingo on the wall. I actually think it was a small kiddie splash pool surrounded by a flamingo. Anyway, I IMMEDIATELY busted out laughing, could you imagine having a pink flamingo kiddie pool floating around in your pool?

    FC and the sun

That’s what I’m thinking, I was shooting for 9, expecting a loss of 2-4, and landing at 6.5, daily. Not trying to pinch pennies or anything, just aiming for what is best for the pool while not wasting chemicals unnecessarily. If shooting for 7 keeps me within 5-7 all day, that’s chlorine saved...

    FC and the sun

Thanks, don’t worry, I plan to retest in a few hours - our pool is in direct sunlight all day. I definitely do not want to drop below minimum FC levels. Guess I’m worried about nothing, just trying to find my pool’s “happy place”, preferably sparkling, with us in it!

    FC and the sun

So adding FC beyond the recommended range of 5-7 is just giving away chlorine, if I’m understanding it all correctly?

    FC and the sun

Ok, getting in the swing of things, loving our TFP, but I think I have been wasting chlorine unnecessarily. CYA 40 FC 6.5 CC 0 PH 7.5 TA 130 CH 150 So from everything I have read, I should expect to lose some FC to the sun, or at least that is my interpretation. However, if the FC is matching...

Soon to be former Pristine Blue owner

Ugh, pool started getting cloudy this past week, back up to SLAM because......I didn’t clean the skimmer very well during the last one. Water levels rose this past week due to rain, put the growth back in the water. Yeah, don’t forget to clean your skimmer while SLAMming

Help me switch to chlorine from PB...(not peanut butter) ?

Depending on how long you have been using PB, you may not need to drain. I only used it a few times, and haven’t had any issues since switching to chlorine. Really need a good test kit though, as you gotta get your CYA level up and your FC level up to SLAM until you pass an OCLT. Everyone here...

Desperately Need HELP...started pool on pristine blue

Yeah, I got sucked into using Pristine Blue as well. I only used it twice, but I equate using it to swimming in bath water that you dump shock into once every two weeks to try and sanitize the water. I was sold on the "only need to do maintenance every two weeks". Shoulda known there are no...

New to TFP, new pool, it's all new to me!

Hi Brian, I’m new to TFP pool as well, but from what I’ve picked up thus far, it seems we will learn how much FC our pools “lose” to the sun each day. I believe the goal is to dose it up the night before, or that morning, so the next day’s bleed off still leaves us in the acceptable range. From...

What we need to answer your questions update?

Thanks! Yes, I mistook it for rudeness at first glance, then put myself in their shoes. Yup, it must get tiring asking the same thing over and over. Maybe the thread can be updated, or newer guidance given in a new thread, maybe include it in the Welcome to the Forums automail you get when...

What did you do to your pool today?

Just added a little bleach. Would have enjoyed the pool some, but yesterday I forgot the last ingredient you need when you enjoy a TFP......sunscreen

What we need to answer your questions update?

I’m new here, loving the TFP, my pool is sparkling. When I first joined the forums and before I posted anything, I read the “What we need to answer your questions” sticky in Just Getting Started and posted my signature accordingly. Any chance of changing that to show that we should list the...

    CYA alternate test methods?

Ralph, for what it’s worth, I doubted my CYA test as well, however I did order the Standard Solutions when I ordered my TF100. I used the CYA one and it just clicked seeing what one SHOULD look like. I haven’t seen any other more reliable tests for CYA either, but then again, I’m new at this...

Soon to be former Pristine Blue owner

Ok, so I started a SLAM on Friday afternoon, passed the OCLT Saturday night, and today my numbers are: FC 6.5 CC .5 CH 150 TA 140 PH 7.5 CYA 40 I think I’m doing it right, water looks FANTASTIC, so I guess my change from that “stuff that I will no longer name” is complete! I did go ahead and...

What did you do to your pool today?

Lots of lawn work, inbetween checking FC and adding bleach, maintaining that 16. SLAM on!

Soon to be former Pristine Blue owner

Ok, today’s numbers: CYA 20 PH 7.5 FC 6.5 I hung a sock with 32 Oz of CYA (just short of what is needed to get a CYA of 40). Should I add bleach to up the chlorine? I can’t monitor a SLAM until tomorrow night, so I don’t want to waste resources being I have FC for now. - - - Updated - - -...

Yeah, I got suckered into it by the “low maintenance”. Like swimming in dirty bath water after a week.....

Thanks! That’s what I’m hoping for, using up the Dychlor and saving some CYA. Hoping to start the SLAM Friday after work, if the weather cooperates.
