    CYA down over winter????

I used tablets all summer last year and I swear I tested cya pretty high at the end of the season and I was planning on partially draining. Upon opening today, I'm measuring <30ppm. How?? Am I measuring wrong?

All About Pools in Rowlett TX can get you 4 pack of 12% gallons for $16 but you have to order it. Same price per oz as home Depot. Have not tried it yet but I will soon.

CYA dropped from 70 to 30 since Memorial Day

I threw 2 - 3" trichlor pucks in a floater that had a few slivers of 2 more pucks left in it. Tested CYA today at 40 or 50, definitely 50 or less. There's no way those pucks added 20 ppm CYA so I maybe had some testing error to account for. I also put a cap on the skimmer I think may be...

    Pool Math........The App

Not sure this suggestion has been made but it would be cool to be able to take a photo as part of the logging function, I think this would be especially helpful for people doing SLAMs.

CYA dropped from 70 to 30 since Memorial Day

There is one spot of grass that seemed unusually green when we moved in which I suspect is under the path of the far skimmer line... I have a bucket out there now and the skimmer valve is set to 100% the other side. We'll see how it goes. Could this also account for higher than normal daily...

I have not checked. Totally possible though... I'll get a bucket going.

3 or 4 inches at most. Usually run the hose about 2 hours.

CYA dropped from 70 to 30 since Memorial Day

I'm not sure how though... My vacuum robot throws a fair bit of water out when its tail breaks the surface and I have to fill quite a bit of water weekly but have I really lost THAT much CYA? All other measurements well within spec that whole time. FC 6.5 CC 0 pH 7.6 TA 80 CH 330 CYA 30 CSI 0.03

Newbie questions - pH rising, timer question, pump run time

So the wisdom of 1x for whole water to go through the filter is no longer the preferred minimum practice?

Had family watch after the pool - it didn't die!

Yeah my CYA is 50 or so. I'm apprehensive about the pucks obviously, but my next trip isn't until September so maybe I'll have splashed out enough water to drop it down some by then!

Had family watch after the pool - it didn't die!

Oh it was just bad timing, we were going to be out, I would have just threw pucks in a floater and prayed. They just happened to be coming into town so I thought I'd put em to work. I think my wife talked about having her friend learn how to take care of it too for next time...

Had family watch after the pool - it didn't die!

I asked that they put 3/4 gal of bleach in daily, but they did not show up on the day they were supposed to, skipped a day of putting in anything, and left a day early... They have an indoor pool, I thought they would be on top of it. I had not looked at the filter before that, didn't mean to...

Had family watch after the pool - it didn't die!

Had 1 ppm loss overnight the night I cleaned the filter, 0.5 cc in the morning and over last night I had zero loss and no CC in the morning. I wonder if the state of the filter was causing higher than normal daily loss... If I could get down to 1/2 gal of 10% per day, that'd be pretty nice.

    Raising CH with Cal Hypo?

I asked this question as well and found that (because I didn't have any on hand) it is not a cost effective chlorinator OR a cost effective hardness increaser, so I didn't buy any. Going to look at other ways to raise CH in my pool and stick to bleach.

Thought I'd take a look at the filter since I have not since we moved in... for the side by side comparison:

Had family watch after the pool - it didn't die!

Had some family watch the house while I was out for a few days over the weekend and came back to a crystal clear pool (albeit with 0 chlorine and pH above 8.0, and very, very low on water) Dumped in 2.5 gal of 10% last night and ran the filter (after filling for 3 hours) and woke up to 13 ppm...

Shopping list for pool supply. First time pool person

Walmart caries CYA in granular form in the pool section, Borax is in the laundry section, and muriatic acid can be had at Home Depot. I found some by the outdoor tools section, or plumbing or something...on an outer wall. You probably have to ask. Might be by paint too. Or the pool store...

CSI about perfect at pH 7.8... risks?

If I wanted to use cal-hypo to raise my CH, would that be a cost effective way or should I just add some calcium hardness increaser by itself?

I'm new pool owner, told 15 yr pool owner about TFP and he said...

LOL was telling the guy today how while I was out on travel my wife took care of our pool. First day she reported that she tested the chlorine at "0.4" and how shocked I was (she meant 4.5.... got her squared up after that). He replied with "oh I used to know what all those levels are...

CSI about perfect at pH 7.8... risks?

No SWCG, though we'd love to put one in someday. I still need to do a full test on the fill water but I think the CH is pretty low which is keeping my pool lower. I can see the impact to the CSI in the app with higher CH so maybe just bump it up now to put me at ease. I'm not sure the plaster...

CSI about perfect at pH 7.8... risks?

I've noticed my CSI is almost exactly zero right now with the pH at 7.8. If I drop it to 7.4, the CSI goes below -0.3 without changing anything else. What is the best way to manage the pH with it "best" at the high limit? Should I adjust something else? FC 8.5 pH 7.8 TA 70 CH 250 CYA 60 CSI...
